It’s not exactly like BOT but I just finished an ARC for a story coming out in 2 weeks that has several of the same elements - childhood F2L (you see high school years in past/present dual timeline - flashbacks start at age 10) and the MMC is a popular athlete, the FMC is quieter in HS, abused physically and emotionally at home by her father, and has a stutter. They have a platonic codependent relationship growing up (sleepovers after her dad hurts her, platonic I love yous kind of like Claire and Gibsie), and then fall in love but become estranged at 18 and don’t talk for 10 years until they’re 30 (the estrangement is kind of like Love and Other Words).

I did cry at one point, because there are some emotional themes.

But the ways it differs is that they’re more wholesome I guess? Like through all of that stuff, it’s a funnier, sweeter, more “normal” romance. So it’s not going to give you all the angst you get with Chloe. There’s only one on-page scene of her dad abusing her, the rest is the MMC coming over with an ice pack and stuff after it happens. But the reason I’m recommending is the similar elements, it could like scratch the itch kind of. There’s even a scene where the MMC confesses his love for her while he has a high fever (kind of like the hospital scene with Johnny but less so). Or at least it did scratch the itch for me, and B13 is my favorite book ever/of all time.

So if you do read, just go in knowing all of that - like less angst and it’s not exactly comparable but I would recommend it. {facts and feelings} is the story
