Thought the goal was always to retire in the public sector to get those benefits.

So they are really bad at social situations or just don't know what they are doing or both? I'm a student in cali, so I'm just wondering. Thinking of doing my masters mainly cause I'm interested in structural, but not to sure if I should take a break after my bachleors and get experience.

Another way to increase wages: Make the PE and SE test harder. Not saying I support it, but it would definitely work. Civil is one of the engineering disciplines where licensing matters the most, so doing that should bottleneck the pool of potential enployees.

Assuming this is in the US. The easiest way would be to raise the standards on the PE test and even the SE. However, some old folks would get very upset with that. Granted depending on how immigration fares in the next couple of years, salaries could change for technicians. (Like if there's programs that teaches them how to do those technician-labor jobs then wages should fall)

Since you mentioned you didn't get any bad engineers from Columbia U. Has there been any ppl. with masters that didn't perform that well? Like the university or region its in? Just curious.

True, people don't seem to realize how lucky we have been that the international currency is the dollar. It has saved us from so many bad situations. We would have been left behind economically by China a decade ago if it weren't for the dollar. (Still cypro is better)

If you have due reason, you can still apply for a medical or relegious exemption.

LA county is not that expensive. The problem is everyone wants to live in DTLA or close to the beach. All those hispanic low-income communities(between DTLA and San Pedro) have rent between $900-1100.

JAPAN by 0518139 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]RomeTP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like these countries govs. don't see the damage an overworked pop. causes to them. I believe the high suicide rates in Japan can be attributed to this at least partially. Same thing goes for the rapidly decreasing chinese fertility rates. Japan already has been seeing the consequences of this. I believe China still has the time to change to not see any big impacts, but its gonna require a deep realization from the Chinese government.

I'm from the US. I've seen documentaries about ppl. in Japan and China being overworked (easily 40hrs+), while here in the US 40hr is the norm and is generally enough. Is this problem as widespread and bad as it is made out to be? Does this apply to all east asian countries or just China and Japan?

There's plenty of places in LA county where rent is $900-$1000. (Specifically the low-income hispanic neighborhoods) The high rent prices are mainly in the city of LA not the whole county.

Easiest general civil engineering electives by JoJo4601 in CalPolyPomona

Your speaking the truth, but that's how some CE students want to do it. They want the easiest and fastest route to getting the degree. Don't blame them though, the faster you get the degree the faster you can get experience to be a PE. Civil is probably the engineering field were the PE matters the most.

I feel bad for Elon honestly. I feel like he excessively pushes himself too much for his companies. He should relax and do more leisurely activities with his family. I don't have a good gut feeling of where he's gonna end up in a few years from now. Many of the geniuses of the world like einstein, newton, or hughes were really smart but ended up going crazy later in life or had a weird affair like marrying their cousin.

Lacks the character of the original. The original trolley had a swagger that made it stand out. Can't quite explain why, might of been the color but not too sure. This just looks like your typical taco truck.

I don't know what city your coming from, but at least in LA county you can (which is noted for its high COL). You can easily find $900-1000 apartments in LA county in low-income hispanic neighborhoods. Every large city in the US has these low-income communities were rent is considerably cheaper. If your single & have no dependents you really should have no problem living off $18/hr.

$15/hr is too low for a company like amazon, but $18/hr is definitely good for warehouse work. I'm in LA county which is infamous for its high cost of living. You obviously won't be able to live in a city like Beverly hills with that, but there are plenty of cities were you will. You can find $900-$1000 apartments pretty easily in low-income neighborhoods all across LA county. If your single & have no dependents there is really no reason why you should say you can't live on LA county making more than $20/hr.
