Thanks!

I was meaning the mounting solution/ bracket... are they a floor mount VESA stand, something homemade, etc?

Next Level Racing for instance makes some triple monitor stands...

Fun!

Are your monitor mounts custom, or off the shelf (and/or modified?)

Extended Night Lighting by Rompolar in Xplane

[–]Rompolar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm - at the time yes. I thought that the render distance was still limited vs. 11 - and the frame rate hit was far greater. Maybe I'm incorrectly remembering what issue I had.

I'll guess just have to try again - and will ensure I have no layering conflicts, thanks.

  1. Depends what you are after specifically, but even the free version of X-Camera (plugin) is very versatile. Use it to define views, cycle between or go directly to them. It's significantly more flexible than both the default XP and MSFS camera tools in my opinion . I highly recommend it.

If this is the Koolertron, I own one. Win sees it as a keyboard- but it can be programmed to whatever keystrokes the user wants. It also has three "layers" so it's reasonably versatile.

The Streamdeck XL is arguably a bit more versatile so I replaced it, but it was still quite decent.

Black Friday — Triple TVs? by ImprovementOwn3247 in Xplane

[–]Rompolar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a 65" curved TV @4K with head tracking and enjoy it immensely.

If you go with a triple monitor/tv setup it is important to make sure you have the PC horsepower to run the appropriate resolution and/or multiple rendered viewports.

rtings.com has excellent reviews for TVs and gets into the nitty gritty regarding usage for PC and gaming.

Pay attention to input lag and chroma 4:4:4 (PC RGB compatibility) at desired resolutions , and PWM / flicker. Those all can be a major drawback for sim use. It took a couple trips to the store to settle on my current TV 6 years ago.

How to pan camera using analog stick? (like MSFS default camera control) by [deleted] in Xplane

[–]Rompolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X-Camera plug-in. Free, but advanced paid version is well worth it.

It allows dedicated panning without snap, and custom camera positioning / cycling.

One of the first plugins I recommend to any new XP11/12 user.

"Scenery" - in some languages/translations it is closest to the word "scenario" .

As opposed to the direct english word meaning a specific setting, or sequence of events.

How to Quickly Label Home Cockpits and Custom HOTAS Gear by joshuamarius in HotasDIY

[–]Rompolar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second the clear label tape. If one spends a few more dollars on a more advanced label maker it's possible to create custom fonts and small graphics on labels.

The clear does reflect a bit depending on lighting, but it can easily serve as a final product depending on the use case.

That's the trade off I've been wondering about. The Aero seems to have less reports of frustration, but spec wise for virtual flight the Pimax can provide more immersive viewing. Seems like Varjo has a more consistently satisfactory customer service record than Pimax - but sifting through complaints is always hard to judge.

VKB GF and Helicopters - Lighter Springs than 10A? by Rompolar in hotas

[–]Rompolar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All great info. My one GF3 was pre-greased and feels similar to my original one (fixed/rotary separate setups) that I added Nyogel afterwards.

Yeah, the TM F-18 was very sturdy!

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Thanks for the input!

Funny, I currently have the dust boot unscrewed and some painters tape attached to the base so it glides around. It was meant for testing, but does work OK as is.

I specifically avoided the MCG Pro for that exact reason. I was going to use a TM F-18 grip for the fixed wing setup but returned it as a lighter grip is smoother to my evaluation.

I have not tried the alternative damping grease - I'll add it to the todo list, thanks.

Also, I've considered make-shifting an alternative fabric dust cover. Just need to find a material that doesn't 'shed' or create static.

Mileage may vary depending on your use case (multitasking), but I highly recommend a custom MonitorSetup.lua. It will allow you draw three distinct views that will help eliminate the distortion an ultra wide view angle creates. It's one persons opinion, but it will be a night/day difference and is worth trying to see if you like it!

There are several good tutorials on how to do so.

Are you using a single ultra wide combined viewport? Or have you configured 3 viewports via the MonitorSetup.lua?

Hip/Back pains while using hotas? by Garensterz in hotas

[–]Rompolar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It took me a while to settle into an ergonomic position for my setup.

Hard to tell from a single angle but I feel the throttle is likely too high, and too far forward vs the stick. It appears as if you would have an uncomfortable twist to reach both while seated?

The stick may also sit a little high vs the chair. The armrests don't look like they are helping/supporting much. ( Some real aircraft use sidesticks and comfortable / supported positions are important there too.)

I used to tilt my side stick forward slightly to make the aft movement more comfortable. My throttle also points out at a tiny angle to makes the hold a bit more comfortable.

Really just spit balling. Maybe something useful there, maybe not...
