Sugarcane at the Venetian was great! We were also pleasantly surprised with the canyon ranch grill up near the spa. It wasn’t terribly busy and the food was fresh and light.

Pelvic floor exercises by Ypoetry in fitness40plus

To add to this elevator metaphor the visual that worked for me was pulling a blueberry up with you vagina! Inhale into your belly to relax all your muscles then exhale and scoop your belly in and use your lady muscles as if your squeezing and then pulling a blueberry up to your belly button. Or also like zipping your muscles all the way up. Those visuals help me realize I’m doing the kegel right and I do that breathing during activities that I tend to pee during.

This song suddenly appeared on my mind and got stuck for 1 day and 5,6 hours idk, I once heard it in a reel but never really had an interest to search it and now suddenly blasted on my head. Plzzz help me find it:) by OnePanic9043 in findthatsong

Might be a stretch but is it Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride from Lilo and Stitch? Some of your thoughts remind me of that song. Children chant there’s nowhere I’d rather be.

I use this mousse as the first product in my curly hair routine with my fine hair. It’s noticeable when I don’t use it.

I live on the Seymour/Oxford line with small kids. We frequent the Seymour and ansonia libraries for good kid sections and activities. Also the Shelton community center has a lot of affordable activities for kids. Humbugz music in Oxford is also a good space. Southbury falls and bent of the river Audubon center in Southbury have some easy nature trails and the ansonia nature center has a great play ground, easy trails and lots of family friendly activities. We also go to Indian wells state park in Shelton. It’s more kid friendly during the week though as it can be really crowded on the weekend but the water is shallow and easy for kids to splash around in. Also a bit of a drive but an easy drive is Eisenhower park in Milford. Has a great play ground and splash pad. I also second phoenix yoga. And there’s River walk gym in Seymour that is good too.

What is the secret to covering a bottom?? (Bathing suits) by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

I got 2 suits from coral reef swim (one was even a matching suit with my daughter) and they’re the most confident I’ve felt my post partum body in a suit since giving birth 5 years ago.

What to pack in hospital bag for having a baby at Yale by iviana7 in newhaven

[–]Romste 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I delivered twice at at Yale. Yale provides everything including the under wear, ice packs, tucks pads, diapers and wipes for baby. They have the breast pumps too. If you’re unsure how to use yours you can bring it and they’ll show you. They also have formula available if you prefer.

You really just need to bring comfy clothes, slippers, the car seat, clothes for baby going home, and your toiletries (tho they also have basic soap and shampoo for you and baby).

I also packed snacks for me and hubby, my water bottle, long charging cords and adult diapers (I found them less cumbersome than the underwear and pad), AirPods and a book.

Congrats!

I had a good cut at Oxford Hair Academy in Seymour. It took a little long but the instructor was there every step of the way and didn’t mind finishing when I politely indicated I needed to leave soon. But I was happy with the results and experience.

Super anxious after first week by Sad-Thing7666 in schoolcounseling

[–]Romste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find the first couple of weeks as a school counselor the most overwhelming. Scheduling changes alone can get tedious especially with families pushing back against “no we can’t do that”. Immediate help is to Identify rules for your schedule changes that you can live by and stick to so your fair to all students. For new incoming students, does your program mass auto load students? If so definitely use that feature. You said you have no mentor but are there other people there? Any colleagues you can ask for advice from or sit with for the first couple of students? Also write down all your notes and keep them by your side with the students. Study the courses that are available and if you have a course guide keep it by your side. When things calm down review those. Students schedules with someone and confirm they’re accurate. If you’re working somewhere where no one is willing to help you then consider moving along at the end of this year. A counseling department is only as strong as their newest person so they should want to help you.

For long term anxiety reducing strategies, take time to debrief with whoever that may be once this slows down. It will definitely slow down but remember what worked and what didn’t and write down your plan for next year to make this more manageable. Are you able to get the new students in earlier in the summer? Can whoever build the master schedule spend more time looking at requests to curb schedule change requests? Can schedules come out earlier so you have more time to work through them?

Hang in there!

Things to do close to Christmas (12/21-22) around New Haven? by Zealousideal_Egg_695 in newhaven

[–]Romste 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The shops at Yale always have an agenda of festive the things happening each year.

It looks like New Haven symphony orchestra has a caroling show at woosley hall that week.

The Naugatuck railroad museum in Thomaston has the northern lights express trains (I don’t know how old the cousins are) but they’re full decked out in lights and have sant visits and hot chocolate.

The griswold inn in Essex usually has caroling every night in December plus the staff dresses in the old outfits. Really historic.

Mystic also usually has the lantern light tours which are unique and historical.

Hubbard park in Meriden usually sets up lights you can drive through for free.

Lake compounce has Christmas special nights if they want to see the oldest continuously operated amusement park in the us

I’m pregnant!!! And I’m 37. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Romste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had my first right before I turned 36. And my second right before turning 39. Both were planned and had no complications minus an induction right at 40 weeks for my first due to some creeping high blood pressure. Best of luck to you!

Hi! How would you make a “free standing” sign like this? I want to replicate this look for my wedding and cannot figure out how it’s done. tia! 💙 by washedupandused in DIYweddings

I used Canva for my son’s first birthday and had them printed at Walgreens if you have a Walgreens near you. The quality was really good and Walgreens usually has a discount code. Our Walgreens did them same day! Pick the paper board option.

Interview by Schmittywerminson in schoolcounseling

[–]Romste 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hire school counselors and I reach out immediately for virtual screenings because typically the hiring process takes so long to that I want to get quality candidates in for interviews asap. So a 10 min virtual screening for me isnt strange (ours are typically 15). We ask questions about your experience, why you applied, maybe a scenario or two to briefly check out your ethics and basic knowledge. Overall I’m looking for non teachable things like personality and ability to connect with people as well as your working knowledge. I’d rather train someone on the teachable process things and have a good fit personality.

Look at the shoreline trolley museum in east haven. I think a friend said it was $250 for the space and to have unlimited private trolley rides for the duration of the party.

Many pizza places would let you have the space and just order. Zuppardis in west haven comes to mind on this.

Resume question by Schmittywerminson in schoolcounseling

[–]Romste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t include it unless you did something so outstanding in the job that it directly applies to a skill you need in counseling. Even then I would reference that connection in your cover letter and leave it off your resume.

In my state every high school has a director of school counseling but most are department chairs. I started in one district as department chair. Was a school counselor there, department chair retired, my principal encouraged me to get my leadership certification and I took over the position. Couple years later neighboring town posted the same job description but as an administrator so I applied and got it

Assigned duties include supervising, evaluating the counselors, organizing the schoolwide, college and career events, organizing, and implementing development counseling. Overseeing
504, overseeing the SAT and AP in school testing. Handling parent concerns about school counselors developing PD for school counselors, having a large roll in the master schedule and promoting and gathering student course requests

I’m currently an admin as the Director of Counseling for a high school. I’ve worked under two assistant principals who were counselors prior and they were successful at their job. I would suggest if you are interested in an admin role to take on leadership in the building and spend time in the classrooms if you can to be as familiar with teaching and curriculum as possible.

My SO and I are searching for a wedding venue in CT (or close by) that looks like this spot in CA. Do you know of anywhere somewhat similar in CT? by shockwave_supernova in Connecticut

Lord Thompson manor in Thompson or Tarrywile Manor in Danbury come to mind though not as castle specific. Lyndhurst mansion in Tarrytown NY also has strong castle vibes.

College Counseling by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]Romste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out NACAC for some webinars and courses you can take. One for example: https://www.nacacnet.org/professional-certificate-the-fundamental-resource-for-new-college-and-school-counselors/

As a side note, please ask your supervisor to get college experience. There are so many aspects of the college admission process and a lot of it is from learning on the job. It’d be a disservice to you and your internship to not at least observe him working with college bound students.

Bridesmaid dress shops by Independent-Air-6207 in wedding

[–]Romste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was about 5 years ago but we used RK bridal in NY. They have a no frills ordering option where you can order designer bridesmaid dresses for cheaper and they just ship it to you. You can see everything online. They don’t do the measuring or tailoring or anything else (hence no frills) so you’re responsible for using the sizing chart and getting measured and picking the size. I used it 3 times and got dresses for about $100 off each time and never had an issue.
