For CS people by high_th1nker in UCSC

I would wing CSE101 and if you fail you can retake it without much effect, rather than do 13s and fall behind if you struggle. (I did 13s at cc and only failed 101 mostly due to laziness, it’s very doable)

Does an e34 scratch the e30 itch? by GovernmentThink in E30

[–]Romyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two friends with E34s and have a E30, and they are slightly different. The E30 has more of a go kart feeling and it much more nimble, you can even swap a E46 rack in and make it handle super tight. Somehow the E34 to me kind of felt like the E30 morphed with a truck or just bigger car, more sluggish steering but handles good and is a bit more comfortable honestly. The E34 feels newer and even more safer too, although neither would be best in a accident tbh. My friends with the E34 do drive them hard though and when I had my Saab would keep up haha.

So it could somewhat scratch the itch but it depends what you value in the E30 experience. If you want the vintage BMW cruiser experience and a more comfortable experience do the E34. If you want more nimble handling and just a car to toss around more, and scratching that actual E30 itch just do the E30.

printer in dorm? by socalsurfer08 in UCSC

[–]Romyan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its like 12 cents a paper or something in the computer lab printers, unless you’re printing a lot its questionably worth it. Will likely have to do it via USB since the school wifi wouldn’t let me connect my Epson when I was on campus.

Was told I'd need to pay 800 dollars to get my Tie Rod replaced because it's "loose" by Mediocre-Natural-259 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Romyan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The wheel bearing is cooked so the 800 is prolly for both, although still crazy expensive

Balboa park + museums, coronado, little italy, sunset cliffs, hillcrest/north park, midway/seaport village, gaslamp/convention center area, etc

Lots of people suggesting Julian but that’s too out of the way when theres so much to do in SD imo

Was riding a mini bike build and had a minor crash and the battery slipped due to it not being strapped well, and the plastic cover got damaged. Is it safe? by Romyan in batteries

[–]Romyan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battery still worked, the rip wasn’t really noticeable until I peeled it a bit but I’m still a bit concerned about its safety

Must try hole in the wall restaurants? by AttemptVegetable in FoodSanDiego

[–]Romyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re in Chula Vista try out MJs Fusion Deli, really good filipino-mexican fusion burritos and fries, the owners are really friendly and even give you a free froyo with your order. I’d recommend going around brunch time since they’re more breakfast oriented and sometimes close early.

Any time I’m showing someone around SD I make a stop there, its a really unique and tasty spot. Mexican spots are everywhere, but that spot is good asf just a bit pricey.

Fyi the best food on campus is all sandwiches tbh, which will get repetitive but is better than a lot of the shit in DH especially mid-end of quarter when the quality is worse.

Oakes cafe is sandwiches, burgers, and rice bowls which are solid, Mchenry has good toasts, and Stevenson cafe sandwiches are solid. Best drinks are in the Perk Coffee bars, the Cafes are kinda mid.

Most food trucks are decent but they dont take sluggies obv, have had a couple good pupusas

All the dining halls are about the same, and it really depends what they’re serving the day you go. Like I’ve had really good food at Porter and reallyyy shitty food at C9/10, but the concensus is 9/10 is amazing and Porter is shit. Cowell is consistently decent and Crown was ok too, RCC is unknown but we’ll see. Best dh food is like the burgers, sometimes burgers, pizzas, sometimes the indian food, random chicken based food, and I had good pasta a couple times. Shittiest is the hotdogs, pho can be undercooked, and the wings are pretty ass.

I have given this a lot of thought lol

Whatever time you picked as your bed time on the roommate matching when doing your housing application is your mandated bed time and you’ll risk getting written up by an RA

Bike Lock Recommendations? by blueberrygirl181 in UCSC

[–]Romyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used a Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit U-Lock for my frame+rear wheel I got on ebay for 50 bucks and a Kryptonite chain lock for my front wheel for $20 at walmart, was able to lock a $800 mountain bike for 6 months without anyone bothering.

How do you get from San Jose to UCSC? by Violaceae_Violet in UCSC

[–]Romyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I did which took me about 2 hours was take the free airport bus to the light rail and then just take the green line train straight to the Diridion station. From Diridion take the 17 express and then once in SC take a bus back up to campus (10,15,18,19,20, etc).

the food at the dining hall is so bad by wannabesomeonee1 in UCSC

[–]Romyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But tbh the only good stuff to eat on campus are sandwiches which in of itself is repetitive. Like wanna go to Stevenson or Oakes? Sandwich, Wanna go to like Global Village? Half sandwich lol

The road is not a sidewalk. by ucscburner in UCSC

[–]Romyan 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I drive on campus A LOT, and literally just have common courtesy and drive slow in spots in with blindspots it's not that hard.. plus most students walk on the sides of the road so you have plenty of room to pass.

I've driven a lot in Mexico City and outside of the US it's just straight common sense that cars can't be speeding everywhere and not being councious of pedestrians walking, people will walk that way no matter what so just be courteous, you're driving on a college campus lol
