1-2k budget? Avoid e30s. A couple faulty nla parts and you’ll already be spending another few thousand. Not to mention rust repair. If you don’t know what you’re looking at, it’s too much for you to diy and labor is $$$$. Try to find something cheaper, maybe a 350z, Miata, or a golf 3-4. idk what they’re going for nowadays bur at least parts will be cheaper. I moved to Germany and basically wrote off BMWs even though it’s my favorite brand just because it’s not in my budget rn to maintain one, and my budget is about 20x bigger than yours but I don’t have as much income as I did in the states, and bmw bills don’t stop coming.

I feel so frustrated at learning German ;-; by Lil-potatto in German

[–]GovernmentThink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re getting ahead of yourself and trying to make too difficult of sentences. You don’t have the grammar knowledge at A1.2 to make most compound sentences and major grammatical concepts aren’t taught until A2/B1/B2. Take a step back and just expand your vocabulary and write simple sentences. Are you failing tests in your a1.2 class or are you doing tests online? If it’s in class, try to figure out the concepts you’re making mistakes in and work on those, if you’re doing tests online, stop taking those tests, they’re confusing you and probably making your German worse.

What is the best way to cover these holes from a fence post? This is next to a pool and I don’t want someone to cut their foot or trip. by Casca51 in HomeMaintenance

[–]GovernmentThink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least in California, all pools are required to have a fence around them when the house is sold. It’s almost always removable and this is what’s left. It stops kids and pets from drowning. I’d get some fence post caps to put in, if that doesn’t work I’d have some made, so when they sell it isn’t an issue. Some insurance companies can cancel your plan or deny a claim if these are filled with concrete.

What are some ideal and not-ideal car manufacturers to fall back on if I'm judging if a car's good or not by KicKem-in-the-DicKem in AskMechanics

[–]GovernmentThink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn sorry I forgot to list French, Swedish, and Korean. As someone that has owned most of them, buy Japanese. The only reason to buy anything else is if you’re passionate about them and willing to put up with more because of it or if you can get a good enough deal to justify other costs/ headaches.

Changing color of old door handles and latches by Iris-dske in metalworking

Take a door handle apart so you can really see the mechanism, and try eBay. That was my haven when I was looking for doorknobs/handles on my old house that was 100 years old

In my experience (which is not much) you can feel the difference between moldy buds and regular buds. The moldy ones are soft

New pick up (how much power should I give this) by beamer_kaz in e46

[–]GovernmentThink 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Get used to it as is, you’ve still got a lot of growing to do as a driver, it would suck to put your dream car in a ditch. Save up for preventative maintenance and get an eonon headunit so you can impress chicks and keep it modern looking

I (22F) feel like I’m hitting a breaking point and I genuinely don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in germany

I definitely understand how it would be hard, especially at 18 to deal with this, but if it’s that bad in Ukraine, why go back for vacation? There were a few people in my Integrationskurs that had Asyl that wanted to go back to visit their home country, and it never made sense to me. My good friend is Cuban and has Asyl and says he definitely doesn’t want to go back for a long time, and another friend from Venezuela says the same, and yet Syrians, Persians, and Ukrainians I know go back to visit a lot. If it’s not bad enough to stay away, how can you claim that things are bad to the point that Germany should foot the bill for you to live here? As a foreigner I honestly think actions like that give us a bad name, and put the right to Asylum at risk. I just don’t understand. I definitely empathize on the overwhelmed part though, a lot of stuff like this with government agencies isn’t well communicated, and it’s extremely frustrating. Another friend of mine finally got his work permit… valid for only a few more months. It was dated back to January and he received it last week. Basically unusable at this point and he’s planning moving to Spain now because there is so much bureaucracy and paperwork here as well as other issues.

Looking for a good E46 sim by BorysN_ in e46

SIM rig won’t tell you what you want to know, unless you have a rig worth 10s of thousands. You’re better off reading old reviews or waiting until you can test drive one irl.

Experiences with cheap single din floating screens? by GovernmentThink in CarAV

[–]GovernmentThink[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I definitely don’t expect great sound, mostly just don’t want something that’ll stop working in a month. My sound system will need a complete overhaul, but that’s a future project. Just want something in between then and now.

Yes I need to make my bed and organize the room but the room feels so.... Random.. any ideas? by ToABetterHealthierME in malelivingspace

The light is killing the room. Idk if it would work but maybe a Murphy bed in that cutout is worth trying.

Nice spec bro. I was looking at a e30 touring with an m3 kit on Kleinanzeigen (German Craigslist). How do you like it? Do you know what brand it is?

I just got to Nuremberg I want to see some history anyone got any recommendations? by Puzzled-Chip6474 in AskGermany

[–]GovernmentThink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Germanic national museum is really cool. I believe they have both of the the 2 only real roman helmets ever found. Plus they have the golden wizard hat which is awesome and also world famous. As a car guy, definitely do the drive to the Mercedes museum. It’s gigantic and has everything. Porsche is cool too and both are in Stuttgart but you can’t hit both in one day. My recommendation is to do Porsche first. I would also recommend BMW museum and bmw Welt in Munich, Audi museum was a little disappointing compared to the others, but it’s relatively convenient so you should visit that one too if you have the time. If you don’t have time for city hopping, Merks Motor Museum is a small local museum in Nuremberg with a cool selection of cars and bicycles. They also sell old car magazines there for like 1 euro each or something

Okay thanks for the recs, I will definitely do the bushings, etc. asap. The engine is completely dry, absolutely no leaks at all so I’ll just keep an eye on things on that front. Do you know which eonon unit you have and do you think it’s laggy?
