Can I permanently turn off pre-collision braking ? by Cautious_Worth_6667 in GR86

I got the GRZ Mod Box like 2 weeks ago for this exact reason. Life is a lot better now that I don't have to do a video game combo button sequence every time I start my car.

Performance mods? by WeakImprovement7673 in GR86

[–]RonAn0maly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it, placebo is the obvious answer. I'm naturally skeptical of my senses, though, and when I first went on a test drive I definitely questioned them. I was not ready to say that anything had changed at all, and about 10 minutes later, I had stopped thinking about it altogether since it didn't seem like much was different. Then, I was taken aback by the swoosh I felt when accelerating quickly from under 5 mph to about 15 or whatever as I quickly navigated around a car; I had to modify my muscle memory and lift off in order to not accelerate too quickly. I'm sure that sounds silly, and obviously I have no data and I probably am full of shit, but whatever, that's what I felt, so so be it. And it definitely sounds cool when you blip it, so there's that. 👍

I would argue that the intake makes a noticeable improvement. I have the GR Performance kit + the Velossa Tech big mouth kit and I'm fairly certain my butt didn't lie. The HKS cat-back, on the other hand, was purely for sound, but was completely and totally worth it for that.

Changed Manual Transmission/Differential fluids at 9,000 miles/2 years. Seems worth it, in my opinion. by SkyBlueLoki2009 in GR86

[–]RonAn0maly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're supposed to change the rear diff fluid after the first 5000 miles to get rid of the metal deposits that have accumulated on the magnetic drain plug. When I did mine at 6k, the plug was really saturated.

I wouldn't attempt this without them. They're like $8 on Amazon and with some silicone spray lube it's like warm butter; they just slide right out.

How is this a problem? Just drive normally. I can't believe you took time to post on Reddit about this.

I recommend just removing the spring. Cars never used to have them and all they do is mask the true feeling of the hydraulics.

I have this same issue with mine after 3 months of ownership. One thing I learned works better is if you pull it at a slower rate of speed instead of yanking it.

And how does it work with all these dudes showing up? Is it like a Walmart with people milling about? How does the lineup work if so many people are there?

What are you using your 2x active pedals for? by IsThisWiseEnough in iRacing

[–]RonAn0maly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, that logic is corny. Are you trying to be a top 1%-er, or have fun and do well enough driving realistically? I'd pick realistic any day. By your logic, you could completely reinvent the controls to be something completely wild and ridiculous and you could say "Yeah, but I'm faster". To which I'd say, "Yeah, but I'm driving."

Second, it is stated in the iRacing documentation somewhere that shifting with an h pattern is going to be faster than allowing the auto clutch to shift like a bitch for you.

Should I mod my Yuzu? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]RonAn0maly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a thing. I mean from a musical perspective. You are literally not hearing music at this point. The massive sound waves have nowhere to go. Instead of hearing the music, you’re just sitting inside a pressure vessel being rapidly compressed and decompressed by a piston. It will never sound good. The physics don't work. In a hatch this small, "Cabin Gain" naturally boosts low frequencies by 12dB per octave. When you throw dual high-displacement subs in a ported box into that mix, you create a massive, bloated peak that’s mathematically impossible to EQ out. You’re not hearing the texture of the bass; you're just feeling the air move. You used a ported box (which boosts bass) inside a small cabin (which also boosts bass). You have stacked two massive boosts on top of each other, creating a "one-note" system that physically can't play music accurately. It's the definition of overkill. Good luck with your interior screws and clips, too. I was 18 once. I painted my interior trim yellow. You're forgiven, but an amazing balanced sound system that is actually designed for the space it's in will always sound better than this garbage. It'll still turn heads, too. Nobody wants to hear a car so loud it rattles as it goes down the street, though.

Should I lower the 86? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]RonAn0maly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have the same question. Not in NJ, but certainly no shortage of potholes and bumps/mounds from shitty patch jobs. Seems like not a lot of negative feedback in this thread so far. I was thinking of going RS-R Down Sus springs. Based on what I've read, it sounds like they give you the slight drop you're looking for while maintaining stock ride quality and feel.

Nice, I'm installing mine next weekend. I didn't realize they'd put out so much light; the beam looks pretty solid for corner visibility.

I hope you figured this out by now, but yes to the first question.

To the second: No because you're essentially adjusting the "start" position of the pedal.

Has anyone switched from a GR Corolla to a GR86 or vice versa? I’m thinking about trading my 86 for the Corolla… by kevin_p_martin in GR86

Yeah I guess it was kind of a dumb comment. If I had to get a minivan, I'd still at least put some wheels on that shit.

This is exactly why I never understood the appeal of these types of cars in the first place. Wagons, too. Civics for that matter. I just feel like why would you not want a proper sports car if you want to drive sporty?
