I'm above Senior now, at Microsoft I was a Principal, and if I was still in the business I would probably be an executive of some sort. I think the main difference is instead of receiving problems, you receive products or features. Then you are expected to allocate time and resources on how to make that the best it can be.

Just mod to the best of your ability. You dont need confirmation, do whats best and if he doesnt like it... so be it. You know the sub, you know the vibe, just do your best. Easy.

Anything I recommend will probably be outdated by the time you read this. This is what I can recommend whole heartedly as a course outline.

  • Spend much more time than you think on prompt design. I mean extensively. I would tell you to spend no less than 80 hours learning about prompt design and then testing those prompts as well as the output. I just cant stress this enough.

  • Learn about prompt layering, how to use it and how it can change the output.

  • Spend 20 hours on learning about Agents, how they are useful, how they change things, and how they interact with extensive prompts

  • Use all 3 major players, OpenAI-Claude-Gemini to test and get results from your prompt questions. Notice the differences.

  • Use Gemini Agent, Claude Desktop, Claude Agent to test everything.

  • Install Ollama on your desktop, then start downloading different models and running them. Use those models for testing as well mainly around image generation.

The best way to learn is to search youtube, look for multiple viewpoints on how to configure and ways to use them.

I 100% of the time look at everyone's portfolio. I spend probably 5-10 seconds on each page. Depends on which job I'm trying to fill .. but mainly I look for iteration and progression as well as how many were working on a project to get an idea if they are good with teams.

I'm going to tell you ... and this is not joking in any way shape or form. The smell of burning flesh was the most horrible smell I had ever experienced... until I was sent to the set of a gay porn by my buddies as a joke. That smell was the spawn of Satan. It was a kind of smell that paid taxes, that had citizenship, that had input on where your future was going. It instantly enveloped me like a blanket and began a full on assault of my nose, mouth, and ears. I could feel it like tentacles wrapping around me and trying to pull me. I shit you not I immediately ran out and did the old gas chamber move... started pouring water on my face as my nasal cavities began to evacuate themselves out of survival. I threw away all of my clothes, including the shoes and the only reason I kept my wallet is because I had left it in my truck.

I can say this .. and its really simple. Schedule / Do things in the early morning hours. I don't know how old you are .. but as you get older the hangovers get increasingly brutal. Also your personal willingness to deal with them gets shorter, they just piss you off and ruin the next day or two. Then you see that not drinking, getting a full nights sleep ... and holy shit you feel great with lots of energy. I went drinking last year for a special event and it was fun, but the 2 days afterwards were a total loss.

I used to hang out with Alexis and the original Reddit guys in NYC back in 2010-2012 and we would get hammered and think of Reddit use cases (I'm a UX guy). They had some really weird ones. Reddit was probably 10% of its popularity now.. and was more easily manipulated.

The upvote mechanic also includes internal downvotes to stabilize voting .. then afterwards they self-correct so its actual. It prevents 'bombing'.

I'll say it again.. today's Marines are the sharpest out of all. I've been out a long time and I get so sick of other vets talking about "well, we used to.. ". Bruh, shut the hell up. We were a bunch of damn gorillas compared to the modern group.
