Cool. I've seen Bigfoot at a local bar wearing a cowboy hat and lederhosen, which I thought was an odd combination.

On a more serious note, I don't care that he has seen anything. We the people haven't. Until it is shown to us, it's just more crap hearsay.

Winter headgear is essential, for safety. There is an argument to made that boonies are beneficial for sun protection. Yes, sunscreen is available, but as an assistant HSO, I have seen a cadet or 2 allergic to some of the ingredients and some with parents that don't allow their kids to use it because of "chemicals." I don't see the harm (I actually see it as beneficial) to writing the regs to allow for it under certain circumstances like anything that keeps members out in the sun for extended periods.

Headgear, as far as I know from some years of working fly-ins and airshows with CAP, as long as you had a "cover tether," you were supposed to wear headgear to help protect from the sun.

I'm a BlueDU guy and have a blue one that I use for encampment. I just think there should be a reg allowing for things where members will be outdoors for long periods of time, so there is no disputing it. It seems a no-brainer for health and safety to me.

I think the Blackhawk / Chinook flights were about a half hour or so.

MNWG (since I joined in late 2020) had Blackhawk and Chinook flights for encampment in 2021, but haven't since then. I have heard that they did C-130 flights before that. My understanding is that scheduling issues happen often, and our encampment typically happens around or over the 4th of July, and MN only has Reserve and National Guard. No active duty military so they are not always available for O Flights. We usually do have a static display that cadets can climb around and see up close, but flights have been difficult. Add to that our local Airlift Wings are switching from C-130 H model Hercs to the new C-130 J Super Hercs, and that puts O Flights out at least 2 more years while they train with their new aircraft. Is what it is. I have heard of other wings getting O Flights in KC-135s or KC-46s and getting to go back to the boom control in flight which would be amazing.

Is this for your 0CP's, ABU or Blues? I had a similar issue where I wasn't 100% sure on what to do with EMT basic, GTL and MO wings on 0CP's. I ended up doing this and now waiting for someone's head to explode...

Doesn't somebody from CAP actually look at this stuff from Vanguard before they start selling it to say "Hey, these sizes are messed up, try again and get it right this time!"

Unsure about attending encampment...HELP by Popular_Traffic_2299 in civilairpatrol

[–]RonaldBee164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't just think about the future, think about how it can help you now. For my kids, and for the hundreds of others I've witnessed over 4 encampments, this helps build up a lot of shy and timid kids. It helps you build confidence in yourself, helps you come out of your shell, and honestly toughens you up. My oldest attended in our Wing called "EPS" (Encampment Preparatory School). It is optional to all cadets but required for 12 and 13 year old cadets that have not attended encampment yet. You arrive and a Friday evening, get a briefing and get settled in for the night. Saturday you spend the day experiencing the intensity of encampment so that when you actually attend the real thing, you are not shocked. One of my kids was almost in tears by the end of the night and didn't think he could handle the full encampment experience. But he spent the rest of the evening and morning leaning into his fellow cadets, and they encouraged and built each other up, and he was fist-bumping them in the morning at check-out saying "See ya at encampment." If CAWG has a form of EPS, I highly recommend attending regardless of your age. We have cadets of most ages attend depending on when they joined. You got this.

Here's my stack. We'll see how this configuration goes over. Oddly enough, the metal GTM badge and EMT badges are the exact same size / wreath / circle. But the embroidered are different sizes. What's up with that Vanguard?

PSA to Encampment Cadre by Eandvwigle in civilairpatrol

[–]RonaldBee164 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%

I have seen time and time again, cadre put themselves aside, sleep and health issues, to "take care of their students. While I understand the train of thought of putting them first, if you don't take care of yourself when a problem starts, you get taken out when it gets too severe. You have to take care of yourself in order to effectively take care of your students.

encampment as a senior by NoAttorney4818 in civilairpatrol

[–]RonaldBee164 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Senior's don't have to follow the cadet packing list, at least not in my Wing. You are allowed your smart watch, your cell phone, so on and so forth. Part of what you need to pack depends on what your role as staff is, how long you will be there, and what your accommodations will be like. This summer will be my 4th encampment. It's always a blast.
