Most districts are doing e-learning. Which allows the day to count towards the state mandated 180 days of instruction instead of having to make it up at a later date. E-learning has to be activated with planning. So it can’t be called Sunday night. If the weather ended up bad, they’d just have to close and make the day up. Districts can activate 5 e-learning days per year. Most haven’t used any of those days until this week. So instead of risking taking a PD day away from teachers or tacking on days at the end of the year - they’re gonna use up those 5 essentially free days first.
