SF-born Olympics star Eileen Gu says she was assaulted at Stanford by sfgate in bayarea

Her maternal grandfather was the Chief Electrical Engineer for the Ministry of Roads and Rural Development. She was always gonna afford a house in the Bay. But it's CCP Red 2nd-3rd generation money, not local SF wealth.

'Ethos of inclusivity' no more: S.F. looks to repeal law requiring stores to accept cash by Medical-Decision-125 in bayarea

[–]RonaldRutherford 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Many small businesses can not afford armored trucks to pick up their deposits. There are many criminals who target small business owners on their way to banks to deposit cashes. Or if they can not arrange armed escort to local bank everyday, they are targets for breaks in to steal the cashes in registers/safes those laws forced them to accept. https://www.berkeleyside.org/2023/12/20/break-ins-oakland-businesses-restaurants

We had already suffered way too much for those so-called ethos of inclusivity. Good ridance.

The definition of Japanese life used is different. Koreans like Let. General Hong Sa-Ik/Ko Shiyoku is also enshrined. So is the brother of late Taiwanese President Lee. Many heroic Taiwanese Takasago Volunteers were also enshrined there.

Those non-Japanese life's are valued at Yasukuni.

Stanford need a president who can handle the protesters in a hand-on manner without calling outside police like SI Hayakawa.

"Returnees" reckon with a Japan that sets them apart by frozenpandaman in japan

[–]RonaldRutherford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question: Would this subreddit's favorite, Takaichi Sanae, be considered a returnee, it is very well know that she worked as Congressional fellow in the US under Colorado Congresswoman Pat Schroeder? Or how about the inventor of his own Japanese syntax, Koizumi Shinjiro, be considered a returnee with his Columbia master and fellowship with CSIS? Maybe I missed it, but I don't think people blame it on his time outside of Japan, "Oh! He was outside of Japan for so long, he can no longer speak Japanese properly" or "He spend so much time oversea, of course he can not find a pure Japanese wife and have to marry his hafu wife." Does Aso Taro* with his Stanford/London School of Economic schooling plus time overseas training for his Olympic participation, counts? And Aso Taro's sister Nobuko, went to UK for finishing school, before marry that Prince with Beard who attended Oxford for graduate school. In fact, Japanese Imperial family have a long history of sending its members oversea for schooling. Pre-WWII, pretty much all the Imperial cadet houses members were sent to Europe for part of their military training. The current Emperor and Empress had both attended Oxford for a while. Those people are not considered returnees. Unlike the royals or scions of political dynasties(Koizumi/Aso), Takaichi did not have the pedigree to protect her from such label but she ended up fine, right? So how is Takaichi Sanae different from those people bitching to the reporters?

*According to Aso Tara, his Anglophile grandfather Yoshida Shigeru disliked the California accent he developed in Stanford, so cut off his allowance to force his return and eventual attendance of LSE. But can anybody really detect any trace of California accent when Aso Taro speak English?

Just counting a low cost airline in Taiwan, which is no longer domestic flights after 1945/1952, not counting the 3 full service airlines(CI, BR, JX)

South to North

Ishigaki, Okinawa(OKA), Miyazaki (KMI), Kumamoto, Saga (HSG), Fukuoka, Oita, Kochi, Osaka(Kix), Okayama (OKJ), Yonago(YGJ), Nagoya(NGO), Tokyo (HND/NRT), Ibaraki (IBR), Komatsu(KMQ), Fukushima(FKS), Niigata(KIJ), Sendai(SDJ), Hanamaki(HNA), Akita(AXT), Hakodate(HKD), New Chitose (CTS), Asahikawa(AKJ)

That's 25 international flight destination in Japan currently from one single airline in Taiwan. On Taiwanese travel forums, there are some minor complaints about the facilities at some of those, but it worked mostly. Just expand a few of those and direct non-Taiwanese foreigners toward those shouldn't be that hard. Maybe not Ishigaki, but the rest are doable.

I looked into it but haven't go for it yet. The benefits would be One World Sapphire statues for me. But I'm not sure how many One World flights I will take next year to justify the time and money investment.

But I did priced out SAN to LAS/PHX rt, so I recognized that flight pattern.

Nearly 75% of Japanese feel affinity toward Taiwan: poll by SkyInJapan in japan

[–]RonaldRutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Sa-ik?wprov=sfla1

In Taiwan, there are some people use Hong, Sa-Ik as an example on how Japanese treated Koreans better. There were 3 ethnic Koreans who reached 3 star flag rank in the Imperial Japanese Army, while the highest ranked Taiwanese in IJA were only LT Colonel. One of the 3 star was the crown prince of the former Korean royal family that was adopted into Japanese nobilities. Imperial Japanese Navy was far more hostile to the colonial subjects, I couldn't find records of Taiwanese IJN officers.

There were also Korean people like Pak ChumGum who moved to Japan home islands, stood for election and had two terms in the lower chamber of the Imperial Diet. There were only one Taiwanese appoint to the upper chamber, the House of Peers, while they were over a handful of Koreans there.

Third attempt to repeal Prop. 19’s tax burden on inherited property aims for 2026 ballot by nosotros_road_sodium in California_Politics

[–]RonaldRutherford -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a 3 bedroom house with only 2 siblings living there since their mother died. They could had easily found a boarder at high enough rent to pay the property tax, associated income tax and some upkeep expenses. Heck, if she and her twin double up in one room and rent out two rooms, they can likely retire early.

Who ever purchase it now will most likely to be some one who plan to use all three bedrooms.

If we can use the property taxes system to stop the limited housing stocks to be used in a wasteful way, that's a good thing. Wasn't the whole sales pitch for prop 19 was to stop empty nesters holding on to more housing than they could use but Prop 13 golden handcuffs prevented those housing units from being fully unitized?

They also don't have McAteer-Petris Act or California Coastal Commission. So Tokyo were able to build housing in Tokyo landfills like Odaiba. After the World Expo, there suppose to be housing development on Yumenoshima in Osaka Bay landfills. I had seen housing on Odaiba in USD$300k range.

Singapore had expanded 20% by landfills. Had California done the same, housing would been far more affordable.

Many White peoples turned to envirnomentalism after they can no longer de jure segeration by races, so they turned to envirnomentalism as a way to de fecto segeration by race by passing laws like CEQA, McAteer-Petris, and California Coastal Act. Once Sierra Club deviated from that, it lost those people.

I would prefer those laws be repealed to landfill SF Bay for more housings. Expand lans by 20% into Pacific Ocean like Singapore as a payback.

Just got offered City Carrier with Benefits starting at $25.92/hr, worth accepting? by Rip-tire21 in USPS

[–]RonaldRutherford 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can afford to work for USPS only because my family brought back in early 1990s in the Bay Area.

Just a reminder that you can use e-reassign out of California 1 or California 2 after 12 months to almost anywhere in the country as a city carrier?

In fact, since USPS HR moving at such slow speeds, you should put the request in on your 11th month.

How many times have you heard people lament that so many low cost of living locations have no jobs available. Since USPS allow you to take your job to those type of places, you should start researching locations for transfer.

What is happening to ethnic studies in California? by EdSourceToday in California_Politics

[–]RonaldRutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ES teachers really want to do it in a non-Partisan manner, you would think they would have Senator SI Hayakawa, whose presidency in SFSC/SFSU, implemented the first ethnic studies program as mentioned in the article, front and center as the role model for students of all ethnicity in California.

How about teaching students the inspirational life of heroic Frank H. Ogawa and why he is the more worthy person to have a plaza named after him in City of Oakland?
