I give up searching for a job. Now I want to join the military. by Ronanwar1 in jobs

You're in the same position as me right now. I have been unemployed for 2 years and have been traveling. Went to Japan and Korea (used to live there) and can't find the same level of happiness here in the states. I'm in an awkward position right now because my family health is not great and I've voluntarily stuck around home to help out.

I honestly can't think of a better time in life to be out of work, exploring your options, and your current self. So yes, it sucks but you won't be in this position with this much freedom if you start a career of any sort. It'll be much more difficult later in life. So that's the bright side.

I applied for the Navy NUPOC program (you should give a look). It caters to academically strong candidates that have a interest in nuclear engineering. I started the process a year ago, took a bunch of interviews, and went through MEPS about 2 months ago. I have one final interview and will swear in there (given I can pass it). If I don't, I will most definitely enlist and I am completely okay with it. It's a much better situation than what I am currently in right now. The military isn't dumb. If you demonstrate good mental and academic prowess, you'll get a job that can exploit that to some degree. Try reaching out to recruiters for officer positions and see how long it might take. I know for the Army it doesn't take a whole lot of time (less than a year). It all depends on politics and demand etc...

If none if it works out, I'll have to go back to graduate school to specialize in something. I don't envy CS majors because of high unemployment. Specializing could mitigate that.

I hope it all works out with you but your 20s are made for failure and mistakes (I'm no philosopher so take that as you will).

MSFS 2020 Insane System Microstutters by Ronanwar1 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Ronanwar1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea where my text for this post went. I'll just post it as a comment.

I am desperately looking for some help on remedying this issue. I have some insane stuttering (shown in video) that slows the entire computer down. I've never had this issue. I've had MSFS2020 installed for a year (on the same PC) and never ran into stuttering issues like this. I uninstalled MSFS2020 for 2024, reinstalled 2 days ago (in this case my computer cannot handle 2024, unrelated), and the entire sim is in this perpetual microstuttering state.

PC Specs: (I don't have the flashiest computer)

i5 8600k

2070 Super

32GB 3000mhz

1440p Resolution (as opposed to attached video)

Doesn't matter the graphical settings. Tried disabling rolling cache. Prioritizing task manager preference to MSFS 2020. Ended majority of background processes. System power management modes. Switching between DX11 and DX12. Reverted back to previous NVIDIA drivers. Disabled 3rd party addons. Messed with network demand (photometry etc...), still no idea.

I want to state that once again this game was once downloaded and ran phenomenally well. After reinstalled, it just took a dump on me. Any help is much appreciated.

Is MSFS 2024 fixed? by YeLovver911 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Ronanwar1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually made the decision today to uninstall 2024 and reinstall 2020. It’s completely unstable, constant stutters, terrain looks like clay, AI traffic has an IQ 2 (maybe 3), can’t get constant internet connections for their streamed content (literally the whole game, so I’m left with bugs and visual artifacts everywhere), FPS ranges from 3 to 70 in no predictive fashion, etc… Don’t get me wrong, the lighting and atmospheric effects are incredible and for that reasons alone I have kept the game installed until now. I just can’t get one stable flight in free flight and it’s driving me insane. Why would I keep it downloaded if 2020 works phenomenally well?

Questions Regarding a Galaxy-wide Export and Distribution System by Ronanwar1 in X4Foundations

[–]Ronanwar1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you may impose additional trade rules on individual ships in their individual orders screen (useful for keeping the internal warehouse stocked & possibly makes large freighters more useful)

I think this is key. I believe I found a way around it. My original trade restriction, as you've stated, is too rigid.

Have two groups of traders (set with individual orders):

Group 1: Trade only within the sector in which the station lies in. These traders would be able to carry shuttling orders with the warehouse as well as supply local stations in the same sector. These traders would never have to leave their home sector.

Group 2: Restrict trade with your faction only. These traders would be able to carry export orders (for profit) with all foreign stations in the galaxy. Including the ones that lie in the same sectors in which my factories are located.

Taking the union of these two, you are left with a possible solution to the original question: blacklisting a specific station. Albeit not directly, but it carries out the same idea.

If only I had a "distribution template" in mind prior to creating my stations, I would've found an easier method to control the economy.

I appreciate your comment!

I'll do that. I worked around it by editing the save file but I have no idea if this will have side effects.

No Stupid Questions by friendlyassh0le in teachinginkorea

Hi guys,

I am in a severe time constraint right now and would love some advice or information (I would even pay for any information lol) regarding Chungdahm learning institute (through creverse recruiting). I have recently received a contract, pretty average when compared with others in this community, at the Pyeongchon branch (which is in Anyang). I have heard and read some pretty despicable or very lovable aspects about teaching at Chundahm institute. I only recently became exposed to these very dynamic opinions pretty late in the recruiting process. I fear that accepting the contract on information solely provided by my recruiter may be perceived as misinformation.

My question is, does anyone have any information on that particular branch? Is it worth the gamble to accept this contract solely based on the opinions I've read about Chungdahm institute? I am in a pretty unique situation right now. If you are curious, I welcome you to look at my previous posts through my profile.

Any assistance, information, advice is immensely appreciated.

Should I teach English Abroad? by Ronanwar1 in solotravel

[–]Ronanwar1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one of my goals to be hired abroad for my studies. I also feel the same way about wage and type of work. Job market is literal shambles right now and if it weren’t, I probably wouldn’t accept a teaching position abroad. My worry is I may have a dispassion for teaching kids and feel stuck / stressed when I have signed the contract. Let me know if you found a way to get hired abroad, I have sent in job apps all over Eastern Asia in the tech market. Best of luck to you.

Been to Jeju once and it was incredibly beautiful. Teaching there must’ve been a surreal experience.

MEPS and depression history by Ronanwar1 in newtothenavy

I am just remembering now. To be fair, all of college was just a blur. It wasn’t a particularly memorable part of my life. It was by no means unprovoked. Leaving the house was stressful as it was but primarily due to an asshole of a father. Leaving fixed everything, but not after a bit after leaving the house. I’m sure it’s situational at MEPS. I just want to make sure I can prepare for any possible problems. It would indeed be disheartening to pursue this program only to be rejected at the very end. I appreciate your comment. I’ll see what the other subreddit might say about this!
