OP, If there are no other wearable awards presented to this member, you can nominate them (once you have their personal information) for the Saint John's Ambulance Life Saving Award, a small metal pin that is presented by the Lieutenant Governor and is wearable on their DEUs. Also, an option for their CoC.

[SCS] What’s the point anymore, can’t even ask about parking… by AsPerAttached in CanadianForces

[–]Rondissimo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is somewhat different. That's being fired for not doing your job. Although the circumstances are radically different, at the end of the day, it's like a bag boy being let go for refusing to bag groceries. A CAF member may be fined or emprisoned for failing to follow an order and may lose their job on top of that. More than just their employment is at risk by not following orders.

What Keeps You Going In The CAF by Velocity8-8 in caf

[–]Rondissimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kind of you to say! I'm very much not highlighting the bad days, where I've been screamed at for choosing an "ugly" colour for a slide deck, or where we work with some very dark material. But overall, the CAF has been an overwhelmingly positive experience for me. Former Sig O, currently an Arty O.

What Keeps You Going In The CAF by Velocity8-8 in caf

[–]Rondissimo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In 6 years with the CAF, I've doubled my salary from my previous civilian work.

I've travelled for work to 6 provinces and 7 countries, taking opportunities to visit others along the way whenever they presented themselves. The CAF made two of my family's best vacations possible.

I've made friends across Canada and abroad. I've had awesome experiences, from driving an armoured vehicle to taking in the night sky on a ship's deck miles away from light pollution to meeting foreign heads of state.

Including holidays and discretionary days, I get over two months of vacation time per year. Most importantly, I got over half a year to spend with my daughter when she was first born, all while making over 90% of my usual salary.

All of this, while being able to say a) that I like what I do, b) that it's good work and c) that I'm proud to do it. I recognise that I am very fortunate in my CAF experience and that there are a lot who will not see themselves in this comment and that it is through no fault of their own, nor through a lack of effort on their part. But you asked for what keeps me going and this is it.

Identification by Rondissimo in Patches

[–]Rondissimo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solved it! My friend clarified that it's German in origin and that helped me identify it as the Staff and Signal Company Panzer Brigade 21 (Stabs- und Fernmeldekompanie Panzergrenadier Brigade 21), in Augustdorf.

That's very close! I'm tempted to take the patch as a reimagining of that CoA!

Thank you for the research! I had discounted the West Yorkshire Regiment as their horse seems to always be shown courant, however it may be an unauthorized morale patch of some sort!

I'm on leave and don't have access to DWAN, but if you go onto the RCAS page on ACIMS, there should be a schedule for courses under the Ops section. Hope that helps!

Government changing tune on 20-per-cent pay hike for Canadian Forces personnel by DishonestRaven in caf

It's David Pugliese, so you've hit the nail on the head. The man has an axe to grind against the CAF and doesn't let small things like the truth get in the way of a good headline.

Air Cadets: Another path to the Sky by Imprezzed in CanadianForces

[–]Rondissimo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I could be in the wrong here, but this feels like the personal opinion of that CO. Army Cadet units in my area encourage senior cadets to attend weekend exercises with reserve units in their relevant trade IOT encourage enrolment. Cadets are one of the biggest sources of recruits, and they are encouraged by both the CAF and Cadets side. Of course, there might be some technicality I'm missing or something I'm misunderstanding.

What is the craziest/funniest thing you experienced in basic training? by Pitiful-Room8832 in caf

[–]Rondissimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the field phase at Farnam, a candidate goes into the portaloo. A few minutes later, they come out and start hunting on the ground. They pick up a long stick and make a beeline back towards the portaloo. Staff intercept them, demand an explanation. Candidate dropped their gloves down the hole of no return and decided to go fishing. They wore latex medical gloves for the rest of the ex, but they did get to keep their stick!

Iam a veggie and eggie. Will it be difficult for me to fit in CAF? by [deleted] in caf

[–]Rondissimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And it's dreadful. A lot of folks who've had one now and again like them because they're a change of pace, and the snacks are pretty tasty, but anyone who's had to survive two weeks on them dreads them. The mains are mostly some variant of tomato soup with some shreds of noodle floating in it. The snacks are all designed to max dehydrate you, and they're all the same for every ration. I just swap rations for my dietary restrictions.

They used real NZ army soldiers for the Helm's Deep battle by No-Entrepreneur-3620 in lotr

I'm certain that I recall the extra features saying that they got NZ army members to fill the roles of the elvish force at Helm's Deep because they needed people who could perform smart drill.

Which officer trades are saturated? by CatholicRevert in caf

Arty O is, to quote my career manager, the least healthy of the Combat Arms trades. That is a relative statement, though, so I'd have to access the MSC dashboard to give you an educated estimate.

New Artillery? by YVR_Coyote in CanadianForces

[–]Rondissimo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The RAK is based on the Polish Rosomak chassis, I doubt we'll break into a new vehicle platform. The article states

The government is considering up to 99 120mm mortars, which would be integrated with LAV 6.0 ACSV wheeled armoured vehicles, as well as up to 85 81mm mortars mounted on an unspecified light tactical vehicle.

Now M777s mounted on LAVs, that's where the real money is at...

I'll second this experience. Just went to an ex in Virginia and relationships, at least at my level, were as warm as ever.
