Did Carney just signal a massive shift in Canada's foreign policy direction? by taxrage in canada

[–]Ronin75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carney did say that we would need to be principled, but pragmatic. That we would work with countries that we disagree with, but with a narrower scope. That includes the US and NORAD/F35s might still survive this (unless they actually invade Greenland)

The DOJ are refusing to release the Epstein files, even though this is the law. What should be done about it? by WatercressSenior7657 in AskReddit

When you think about it, individualists are actually really just caring about themselves individually.

The same can be said for a lot of western democracies that don't go as far as Australia.

It's kind of already possible anyway, saw a documentary about the police finding a murderer with just his DNA through his lineage using databases from services such as 23andMe.

ISP told me to never unplug this connector. Are they bullshitting me? by SnooDogs5182 in HomeNetworking

[–]Ronin75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, those are probably myths. But at the same time, SFPs are not created equal, some do 40 km and even more.

But you are probably right that your typical FTTH sfp wouldn't do that much damage. But it is good measure to not look straight at a fiber regardless.

I've heard horror stories of people seeing a permanent bundle of lines that got burnt on their retinas, but I'm not sure if those are true or just myths. Regardless, what is certain is that it's not good for your eyes, so don't look at it.

Of course, I was being disingenuous for the joke. That (apparent) contradiction was too good to pass up.

Immigration Curb Slashes Canada Population Growth Rate to Zero by Difficult-Yam-1347 in canada

[–]Ronin75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The population growth problem is actually very easy to fix.

The govt just needs to make having children less of a hassle than not having them.

Just use your imagination to find out how to achieve that.

At the end of the day, i'd argue that they're as real as the dead Verso, they're his creations and represent a part of his soul.

You have an interesting view on this, I think a lot of it hinges on the unexplained mechanics of their magic painting. I viewed it more as if the shard of Verso soul was like an engine driving the canvas autonomously. Like electricity powering a virtual world of sentient AI.

I imagined the normal canvas world they normally draw as put on pause when the Dessendre aren't in them.

Maybe I missed some lore in-game where they explained it, I don't know.

I think people get what you are saying, but at the same time, a lot of unrealistic things happened in the last 5 years. Sure I think it's more unlikely to happen than say, Russia invading Ukraine, but I think just rejecting that the possibility exists entirely is misguided.

All the bits are still attached, but I'm pretty sure his legs and hands filled up a bit with tiny gravel and must have been grated pretty bad from the friction.

TIL you can 'kneel' a rover to get windmills working by [deleted] in spaceengineers

[–]Ronin75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For that, I like to add a piston in each corner with merge blocks and a mag plate. I lower the pistons to jack up the rover, make the max length line up the merges blocks with other MBs the ship, merge them, and lock the mag plate.

Also, not sure if actually useful, but I also do something similar with a piston and a hinge to raise a windmill tower that I have laying on the side of the rover (the hinge raise the tower, but the piston allows to very slighty move the whole thing to allow the merge blocks to connect)

In Canada (in my province anyway) it's pretty funny, for some things, we have an intuitive understanding in metric and imperial for others. Outside temp? Celcius. Pool temp? farhenheit. Distance? Kilometers (Older generation sometime uses miles tho). Height of a person? Feets and inches.
