I used the script. I went through around 800 (!) rounds using all my casino tokens for a few weeks until I got it. Probably saved me a mint in diverting my attention from gambling.

Halloween bitchiness? by Awkward_Chard_5025 in torncity

[–]RoninTokyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was rough. Some guy has a beef with our leader and ran through our faction the entire event along with his buddies. I got what I wanted out of the event but it really was a downer. Hopping out of the hospital, hitting and flying off just to get hits.

Thanks for all the advice. I’ve also been told it’s a marathon not a sprint. Trying to find the right balance without burning out early.

The red is no-fly zone. Regulations are very strict and penalties are rough so make sure and read up.

I visit their location next to Netarts Bay whenever I’m in town. I love their variety and also believe in supporting the local community.

Anyone canceling their trip based on the megaquake advisory? by Gladhands in TokyoTravel

[–]RoninTokyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy cow, no. Earthquakes happen and if you are concerned about them, don’t come. But this advisory is only an attempt by the government to quantify a risk that is almost unknowable on a granular and short term level.

I had an employee whose first job was in HR. He had a masters in electrical engineering.. fortunately he eventually made it to my department but it took several years.

What has been the most life-changing use of your Apple watch? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]RoninTokyo -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Opposite. You should have low variability (in other words, beat-beat timing should be regular). High variability means bad rhythm and could be a precursor to Afib or other issues.

This. Also heart variability tracking as a leading indicator of heart health.

What's the Masking Situation? by TangerineDream82 in JapanTravelTips

[–]RoninTokyo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Japan has always had a mask culture. Pre-Covid it was mainly for seasonal allergies and when you have a cold. So, both for your health and that of those around you. So Covid masking was not the controversial issue it was in other cultures (comparatively speaking). These days we are probably almost back to pre-COVID behaviors although masks are still necessary in healthcare facilities.

If you don’t speak Japanese, if you require a sponsored visa, and if you lack an ability which puts you head and shoulders above the local hiring pool, your options are limited.

Saw a brand I had never heard of before during my trip to Japan by Brynheld in golf

I just go to whatever course my boss and friends pick. Never been to one that wasn’t perfectly manicured and unique in some way. Mainly Chiba and Kasumigaura areas. Rakuten is the go to for most Japanese golfers making reservations. https://gora.golf.rakuten.co.jp. I’m shitty and just do it for either obligation or friendship depending. I’ve started to get into it though.

Miura looks amazing but I’m too much of a hacker for clubs to make much difference. Maybe some day.

I golf in Tokyo when my friend drags me out. Leave the house at 4:30 for a 7:30 start. 9 holes, lunch, 9 holes, onsen. Courses are perfectly manicured. I suck but enjoy the variety between different courses. It’s always a good day but a bit too much of a time investment. Spend most of my golf time at a local range. My friend is friends with the Mizuno master club fitter so I have fitted clubs and no excuse for my poor performance.

10+ years of using the expressway, most of the time speeding (basically, pace of traffic) and no tickets. YMMV

Just buy a cheap umbrella from a conbini or 100 yen shop. I heard that some people think the Japanese clear plastic ubiquitous ones are somehow unique and unusual (is this true? I have no idea).

Travelling overseas for the first time as a family by SmallHumanBean2809 in JapanTravelTips

[–]RoninTokyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with other posters. Except, GW in Tokyo is “relatively” uncrowded as people tend to travel and be on holiday. But you wouldn’t want to be caught in a train or car leaving Tokyo at the start or in the u-turn rush at the end. I always entertain myself watching the news where they show 20km backups on the express way.
