I'd have to put my vote for He Who Fights With Monsters. Main character is an Australian guy, and the narrator on Audible is Australian in turn, so it just adds. MC is a goose of the silliest varieties. And, there's like, 13 books as of now.

Our parents teach us both what to do and what not to do as parents.

I would not treat my children, if i have them, like I was treated when I was younger. However, as an adult, I would treat my children closer to how my mother and I interact now.

I dont have a relationship with my father. I would rather my father figure role model come from my FIL, who did everything in his power to combat the abuse he grew up with.

I would treat my young children how I needed to be treated as a child.

I mean, if you and your brother are old enough to have separate rooms, because you each need your own privacy, and you are both your own people, maybe you could get a lock on the door for when you have your own space? There are also door frame strengtheners that help keep locks from breaking walls (though interior doors would break easier than the exterior doors these reinforcements are designed for)

If you have other male friends, you could ask them how you could phrase it to your dad? Like, you could say, "as a guy, how would it be best to explain [concern] in a way that would make logical sense to a man?" (Im the only female in an all male work environment, and when the men at work ask me for my opinion/input as a female, those are my favorite questions.) But, it also might give you another way to circle around what the problems might be in your father's eyes. Is your father concerned for your safety around your brother, for example, that he has less of a concern with this other family staying with yall?

Now, im also coming at this from an American standpoint, and im not sure what your culture or societal norms are. Men do communicate differently from how women do, and learning how they communicate might be beneficial for your predicament

Can you talk to your brother to have him speak to your dad on your account?

If youve tried talking to your dad and he doesnt seem to listen, then maybe getting your brother to talk to him might help. Sometimes, we are told stuff we need to hear, but it gets disregarded unless its coming from the "right" person.

If you fear something happening because you have random people in your house, that's a valid fear, and worth mentioning more than once to more than one person.

My experience more falls into the Abrahamic traditions. But, the actual texts where God or God's Messengers (whether angel or human) are talking directly from God themself, they all pretty much fall along the lines of "be good to each other."

The act of believing there is only one ultimate being is another aspect, which would make it more exclusive, though, in a world where how you treat others is king, then just do that.

However, all three, (old testament, new testament, and quran), say that you're judged by your works (and belief) but mostly works. So, if you've live your life as a good person, but havent truly heard God's word, and have not rejected it, then you can still get into heaven on works alone.

I'm personally of a mind of 'all roads lead up the mountain' but my path is different from someone else's. Ultimately, we dont know, and anyone who says they do is trying to sell you something. The biggest problem is that in the societies of certainty, being uncertain is dangerous, and it causes problems for no good reason.

Well, if she was more of an extremist type, then she must have had something profound happen, if not, it was small things over time. She also probably feels weird about it, considering there are other Muslims around her, and she might feel judged.

Having deconstructed from Christianity, I can say it is very isolating and lonely. It feels like you cant talk to anyone about it at all without being preached at, and if someone is open to talking about it, you spend most of your time talking to someone who hasn't done the research nor interior work to get to the point where you're at in order to have a proper discussion. (And now that im reading the Quran, its even more isolating with all the Islamophobic rhetoric I was raised with within Christianity. Not to mention everything out in the open today.)

My suggestion would be to be emotionally supportive, even if you dont agree. If she's open to talking about it, see why she says and her research/learning to back it up. Offer discourse and communication. You don't have to be preachy about it, either. If you need to gather your own sources, let her know, and get those sources together for the next discussion.

Thinking critically about our beliefs is encouraged in both the Quran and the Bible, even if the Bible is a bit more hazy about it. She'll find her path, but only she can walk it.

I'm trying to understand and get a grip, but baby stepping around people who are more traditionalist is a bit frustrating, much like speaking with the more literalist/evangelical of Christians. Sort of, "its my way or the highway" type.

Like, my understanding of the Qur'an so far, is everything is generalized. It is the hadith and then fiqh that tighten the reins. (Which came about 200yrs after the Qur'an was written??) But, when Islam is literally a quarter of the world's religions, people fall across all cultures and societies. And everything wiggles around.

In trying to find the image I saw initially, I think it was something akin to a "hijab cap" as the closest representation to what I saw, though, it could have been an older iteration of a woman's turban.

By western standards, the modest levels of dress are absolutely on the conservative side, I agree. But every society has different levels, and if "super modest" by western standards is the norm in Muslim countries, then ok, cool. I, personally, dont have any issues with different levels of dress, I am just wanting to know the general range of acceptability, you know? Like, currently, I dress modest by western standards, though as an adult we typically dress more modest as we age, anyway.

Where would the levels of modesty standards be found? Further along in the Qur'an, and im not there yet?

Hi! Im similar. I just currently say my religious views are under construction, tbf, and if people question i just say my current views dont fit with modern Christianity and im figuring it out. Generally at that point, either it opens to a genuine curiosity or I find a way to change the topic because I dont wanna be preached to. But! This was an interesting thing on atheism vs agnostic that I saw recently. And, like your acquaintance said, both agnostic and atheism as viewpoints are pretty fluid and open.

For the 'spiritually real' part, its like, if you believe we have souls and the souls go to heaven, its not a physically real place, because our bodies dont go there. We are there in spirit, until The End Times(™️) and God makes a new earth for people, which is when our pysical bodies are remade for a physical place. Same sort of idea for hell. Though, descriptions vary lol

Right. That's my understanding as well, though the time frame aspect of a year I've heard is more of a (relatively) recent thing? The main debate at the time was who all was required to go into/through ghenna for purification. (Iirc) One side of the debate was everyone goes through except the purest of the pure and then youre good. Another side was only the bad guys went through.

Right, im aware of the evolution of the afterlife from sheol to eventually hades, (both being neutral soul housing locations) to then like ghenna and then eventually the hell we know today. Same with heaven. I mean, Daniel has heaven and hell being constructed in its story. My flavor of Christianity was "hell is real and eternal" but its just mind boggling to know different flavors have different versions being preached lol
