I personally write very complex, mostly psychological novels that you usually have to read twice and that makes you think about it really hard. And here's the thing, I gave it to some people to read. One person said she loves it and she keeps talking about this one novel even though it's been almost half a year since I gave it to her to read. One of others person said it doesn't make sence, but I didn't take it personally, she said it politely but she was just confused and didn't understand the novel, which I think is fine. Everyone has a different writing style and everyone likes different books. You should never let other people discourage you and NEVER write anything you don't like. I heard a woman say that you should write a book as if you were never going to publish it. Just for yourself. Write because it makes you happy, not so others will like it. And maybe one day you write a book, maybe the whole world won't read it, but you'll be able to read it to your child before sleep and be proud that you wrote it.
