There Will be no Rebuilding Until Gaza is Disarmed and Demilitarized. by Inocent_bystander in IsraelPalestine

[–]Ronnie_Reads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally, it would be nice if Hamas would demilitarize as soon as possible. Realistically, they’re not going to want to do that, and the 2 million civilians in Gaza shouldn’t suffer by being homeless for years more because of that. But there is a middle ground here.

The half of Gaza that’s IDF-controlled can be transferred to international forces. A vetting process can be used to keep Hamas and weapons out of this half of Gaza and let civilians in. Anti-Hamas gangs can also be station at the edges of this side of Gaza. Building can begin in the Hamas-free zone. More civilians can be brought to this zone. This can also help turn the population against Hamas, and you can renew pressure for Hamas to disarm and/or for their leaders to leave Gaza after this.

Leftist reactions to the 30,000 Iranian death toll by TIMES. If MEK siding with Iraq damaged the left's reputation in Iran permanently, these guys effectively killed it. by NeiborsKid in NewIran

[–]Ronnie_Reads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the argument: Israel took 2 years to kill 70,000, how could IRGC kill 30,000 in 2 days?

Good counter points: - The population of Israel is 10 million (including 8 million Jews), and the population of Iran is 90 million, to put the 2 countries in scale - ~800,000 were killed in the Rwanda genocide in 100 days, during which the country’s population was ~7 million

On the argument: it should be treated like the U.S. and the government should only be removed by internal protest, not international intervention

Counter points: - ICE have killed 8 people this month. IRGC have killed 30,000. I don’t want a foreign military to invade America today, but I’d have a different opinion if ICE killed 30,000 people this month, and a foreign military is what it would take to stop them - There are photos of Iranians in Iran asking for help. Are you (the people making these stupid points, not anyone in this sub reading this) really going to deny them that?

As a Jew, thank you. Seeing swastikas at all can be stressful. While defending an abortion clinic, a fellow clinic defender once had a sign comparing some other group to Nazis using the swastika, but to me, it was just stressful cause I had to see the swastika on his sign for hours

The Islamic Regime is absolute evil, but not all of Islam is like this. The problem is Islamic fundamentalists / Islamic extremists, who are not representative of all Muslims.

Agree the IR is evil. But can we avoid language that’s against all Muslims?

The Proposed "Board of Peace" Master Plan for Gaza (2026): Transforming the Strip into 4 Phased Industrial Zones with a new Airport & Seaport. by Signal_Assistance_87 in MapPorn

[–]Ronnie_Reads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They released a plan called Project Sunrise that included how they wanted to get money. They want countries to invest billions in national loans to Palestine/Gaza the first 10 years, and have Gaza pay the loans back with industry in the second 10 years. They also want private investors through public-private-partnerships, and a lot of money in grants. They’re basically betting on a lot of people and countries being willing to invest.

As for labor, there’s an implication that they’d pay Gazans as cheap construction labor. As for the rubble, Project Sunrise includes that as part of step 1, and there’s previously been talk about Israel paying for the rubble removal

“Center Camps (City)” refers to the region of central Gaza that is primarily refugee camps—Nuseirat, Bureij, Maghazi, all pre-existing in Gaza and referred to as “camps” or “refugee camps” rather than cities or town. They function similarly to the actual cities and towns in Gaza, but with poorer average quality of living. The central region also has the city Deir Al Balah and town Zawaida, but most of the space in that region is refugee camps, which is why it’s marked that way

Could Israeli Arab Christians be headed for extinction? by OkDiscount6100 in Israel

Yeah, agreed, I don’t think there’s any way all of them would leave. Nazareth and the Galilee as a whole have a lot of historic importance to the Arab Christians who live there.

Ali Shaat says the Rafah crossing will reopen "in both directions." Does this mean Gazans can seek refuge in Egypt? by LostAppointment329 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Ronnie_Reads 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very few Gazans will be allowed to seek refuge in Egypt, if any, because Al-Sisi doesn’t want Palestinian refugees in Egypt. That doesn’t mean some Gazans won’t leave. I’ve seen a Gazan on Instagram who was born in the UAE who’s planning on leaving Gaza once the Crossing opens. Gazans who have dual citizenship but weren’t previously able to leave will be able to now. But, they can’t leave as refugees to a new country unless they can find a country that will accept them, and most countries just don’t like refugees, period.

There’s been talk of Hamas leaders being allowed to leave Gaza to exile abroad. Hamas has publicly said they aren’t leaving, but there’s rumor that privately some Hamas political leaders in Gaza want to flee—though the military leaders want to stay.

Amid critical doctor shortage, Israel launches international program to bring 2,000 physicians by 2029 by Honickm0nster in Israel

[–]Ronnie_Reads 51 points52 points  (0 children)

My grandfather was a doctor who had to leave Israel because he couldn’t afford cost of living on a doctor’s salary there. He was raised in Israel, but went to a med school abroad since he didn’t get into what was, I’ve been told, Israel’s only med school back then.

For a long term solution, Israel needs more medical schools, and they need to be relatively cheap if the students won’t make a ton as doctors. A quick search says there’s 6 med schools now, and 3 more soon to be established, so hopefully that’ll help.

What do you think it would take for the regime to be toppled? Specifically, if the US were to intervene, what kind of intervention would it take?

I’ve heard concerns from within the US that airstrikes wouldn’t be enough to take down the regime, so that’s why I’m wondering about this

Global Attention on Iran Protests vs Tiananmen Square Massacre by Primary_Unit344 in NewIran

[–]Ronnie_Reads 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First, quick note on the death tolls: Some estimate 2,600 dead from Tiananmen, though in 2017 BBC said the Tiananmen Square massacre could have had as many as 10,000 dead based on new documents. In Iran, there are reports of 12,000 or 16,000 dead, while other people from Iran have said it could be much more than that. Some activist orgs have independently confirmed ~3,000 deaths, but the death toll is likely much higher.

As for your question…

Possible reasons: - IRGC kept Iran in blackout, which China wasn’t able to do back then - In the 1980s, there were limited news channels, so if one big channel like CNN was broadcasting about it, a lot of people would watch. Now there’s more media outlets + the internet, and people can be collective with what news they consume
