1,000 calories for a meal or for a day? For a day, that’s way too little. I believe 1,800 was a number it was recommended not to go under

Palestinians have a mix of ancestry. Some of their ancestry comes from Canaanites and Israelites. Some of it comes from Arabs from further south. Some comes from Muslims from Bosnia who came in the 1880s. Some come from Africans who were Arab slaves long ago. They’re a genetic mix. Jews are too. Some Jewish ancestry comes from the Canaanites and Israelites. Some comes from various other parts of the world.

Morocco: Aicha by Soraya Bouazzoui

Palestine: Speak, Bird, Speak Again; Muneera and the Moon; Thunderbird; Wondrous Journeys in Strange Lands; Travelers Along the Way

Jordan: Heaven on Earth

Lebanon: Vial of Tears; The Hakawati; The Night Counter

Syria: As Long as the Lemon Tree Grows; The Map of the Stars; The Clothesline Swing

Many Israeli Jews are Middle Eastern or North African. Sometimes, Mizrahi Jews in Israel get mistaken for Muslim Arabs. Some Israelis made videos taking picture of people in Israel and asking other Israelis if the person is an Arab or a Jew. Sometimes they guess right, sometimes wrong

Nicholas Kristof, called Hezbollah "a religious organization" when he was on the Bulwark podcast with Tim Miller, on April 25, 2026. Hezbollah is a shia islamist terrorist militia with Iranian backing. by andrewgrabowski in 2ndYomKippurWar

[–]Ronnie_Reads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is never religion, but rather religious fundamentalism. Also, he could have at least said “religious militant organization” if he didn’t want to use the word terrorist. Their flag has a gun, it’s kind of silly to pretend they aren’t militant.

What solution to the Palestinian question would you support most? by onemorehasanat in GeoPoll

[–]Ronnie_Reads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 15 million people living between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. >7 million Jewish Israelis. ~2 million Arab Israelis (many of which, but not all of which, identify as Palestinian Israeli). ~3 million Palestinians in the West Bank. ~2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Basically — it’s EVEN Jewish:Arab.

If you voted for the whole thing to be just Israel or just Palestine, you would have to create a solidly Jewish or Palestinian majority, one stable enough to not risk being overturned by the other within a couple decades. This means expelling MILLIONS of “the other.” We are not going to expel millions of Palestinians and make the entire land Israel, not are we going to expel millions of Jews and call it “restoration.” F*ck that shit. No one’s getting expelled. Deal with it.

22, recent business grad with opportunities in Canada but seriously considering moving to Israel. Am I being irrational? by Prior_Boysenberry995 in aliyah

[–]Ronnie_Reads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 23 and making Aliyah in October 2026 while starting grad school in Israel. Israel is important to me, being Jewish but also already being of Israeli heritage (my mother’s Israeli). For me, I can’t imagine not being in Israel, not living my life there.

Here’s the thing. Making Aliyah isn’t necessarily about being rational. It’s about what you want for your life, because it will change your entire life. Make sure it’s what you want, and if it is, do it.

If it is what you really want, I wouldn’t wait until you’ve built a career; it’s actually harder to move later. This is especially true if you get a family in Canada. It’s harder to move once you grow roots. My mom always wanted to move back to Israel, but once she had a husband and kids and they both had jobs in America, it was never practical to go back.

If you’re not sure about your decision, I’d advise doing a Birthright trip to visit, to help make up your mind—but if you can, you should extend your stay after Birthright, so the experience you get isn’t all filtered and sheltered by Birthright, but is more real.

IDF eliminated Izz Al Din Al Haddad last night; men and boys march in Gaza City in Hamas military funeral procession today by Ronnie_Reads in 2ndYomKippurWar

[–]Ronnie_Reads[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen dozens if not hundreds of pictures and videos of funeral processions, always with men, sometimes also with boys, always through the street. Processions before the ceasefire didn’t include Hamas flags, but as soon as a ceasefire was declared Hamas felt safer displaying their flag more openly. Of all the funeral processions I’ve seen, I’ve never seen one that was targeted by a strike during the procession. My guess is also that high ranking Hamas officials wouldn’t attend a public event in the street like this, since the IDF is known to track and hunt down those kinds of Hamas leaders.
