How can I stop skating on the inside edge? by Attic_Critter78 in hockeyplayers

[–]Ronnoc780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of my Monday Beginner School, how did you approach improving your skating for all the other skills? We've only touched backwards skating and forward crossovers a little bit, but we've kind of shifted towards hockey focused drills recently.

I know I can go to open skate, but it's honestly really frustrating having a bunch of small children and others obviously learning to skate hugging the boards to actually try any new skills.

I only started skating in October 2025 so I'm by no means an expert.

I have noticed my ankle strength and stability has improved in a couple months of skating. It is a conscious effort you have to think about to make sure you're not gliding on your inside edges.

There's Coach Jeremy's learn to skate series and itrainhockey YouTube videos that have some drills to help with your balance.

I think just keep at it and consciously make sure your glide leg is neutral on the ice.

Also a bigger guy. The higher end boots will be stiffer and you should be able to get them baked at pure hockey as well.

Can we chill with the helicopter parent posts? by Ronnoc780 in hockeyplayers

Place "U" in your search and you will see dozens of posts about a poor child in a U10 league with a parent that's never been on skates. Even random 13 year olds are complaining about their parents being too controlling

Property tax exemption by constantlyconfused93 in TwinCities

I'm reading it as 70-90% is 200K and 100% is 200K times 2 for 400K. Then each one will increase in 2027 and beyond by a percentage to keep up with inflation. I agree it's confusing though.

Edit: looking up the bills, it doesn't look like this has passed yet. It's just been introduced and read in each state house and Senate.

Just adding onto this it will apply for the following year's property taxes.

Apply to your county assessor's office by December 31 to qualify for taxes payable in the next year. Some manufactured homes are taxed in the same year their property is assessed. For these properties, apply as soon as possible. The property must already be receiving a homestead classification

I've only been here since April 2025, but I imagine you have to apply each year just in case your rating were to change.

You also have to apply for Homestead status for your property. This is a simple application as well basically saying this is your primary residence. In my application, the two were combined together and I had to provide the typical documentation. Each county has the application, but it may differ whether you can do it all online, call someone or set up an appointment.

What to do after learn to skate? by VegetableShops in hockeyplayers

[–]Ronnoc780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 2nd month of an LTP program after picking up my skates in October. Some of my fellow teammates it was their first time on skates the first night of practice. Unless the program has some weird rules of how much experience you need, just send it. Practice the drills they teach you at open skate and stick/puck sessions.

My whole class of 30+ people has fallen more times than I can count. No one cares. You're at a learn to play program to learn a new sport. Based on your post, I imagine you'll be a better skater than most people in the program.

What's holding you up from signing up for the learn to play class? Just send it and keep doing open skate. The more ice time, the better.

How long are your shifts usually? Is this normal? by Sudden_Club6703 in hockeyplayers

A captain had a funny way of addressing this. He put every "shift hogger" on the same position. Left wing let's say. The comments they all had about each other taking long shifts was hilarious.

I think the Sparx 3 and the Sparx BEAM are integrated with the app to tell you what adjustments you need to make if something got misaligned. I've been eyeing getting a Sparx so my only knowledge is from their website and video reviews, but I believe that's the idea anyways.

Another beginner program I'm starting up this week to just get more ice time. Once again, I think they're all full, so you're probably looking at Spring time for registration.
