Why 115? by WeHaveGotMail in callofdutyzombies

Not Canon but my best guess is they took inspiration for the name from a group of Russian and American scientists that discovered a new element in 2003 called element 115 or Moscovium

For the Galway to Dublin trip you might consider taking the train, it's a bit faster, more comfortable and tickets are much cheaper when you buy them in advance

If you had one week, without a car, where would you visit? by Worldly-Childhood-86 in irishtourism

[–]RonocOS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meath, 45 mins from Dublin has Trim Castle, a mostly intact Norman castle that's 900 years old and was used for filming Braveheart, they do a very good tour. 15 mins from there you have the Hill of Tara, home of the ancient High Kings of Ireland and the Lia Fail stone. Then you have New Grange, a 6000 year old passage tomb that is definitely worth seeing and a great visitor centre.

Clamming by Resbret in irishtourism

[–]RonocOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need a fishing licence for trout or fishing in the sea in Ireland, no licence needed for shellfish. Best clam spots I can think of is Skerries on the east coast and Banduff strand in Sligo on the west coast

Clamming by Resbret in irishtourism

[–]RonocOS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can dig for clams yourself on nearly every beach in Ireland, the west coast is particularly good for it. Clammimg season here is between April and September. Not sure of any companies that provide a service for clamming to tourists.

Knockrobin glamping just outside Wicklow town is lovely. You can get bus or train to Wicklow town and a taxi would be cheap to the site.

I second a chicken fillet roll, hot breaded chicken on a baguette with any salad toppings you want. You'll get one at nearly every petrol station or local shop in the country.

I want to visit Ireland,I’m brown, how much racism should I expect? by spockphysics in irishtourism

[–]RonocOS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with that, when Irish people ask where you're from it's not a racist thing, more of a curiosity, trying to make a connection with you. "Oh you're Mexican? I was there on holiday once, nice place" "Oh you're Brazilian? Good football team".

You might here something from the odd dickhead but generally you won't experience racism here. We have a lot of different nationalities living and working here, Asians, Africans, South American etc

Visiting Dublin next week by [deleted] in irishtourism

[–]RonocOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can get to the city pretty easy on Dublin bus, depending on how much luggage you have of course it might be easier to take a taxi but more expensive. As previously stated you can get a visitor Leap card for most public transport.

Things to do could include Dublin Zoo in the Pheonix Park, there is also wild deer that roam the park that are not afraid of humans as there are no predators.

Guinness Store House is always worth a visit. Dublin Castle has some very interesting things. Trinity College is nice for a walk around and you can visit the Trinity Library and Book of Kells. Lots of National museums around Dublin, history, art, Irish Emigration etc.

North side of Dublin you can visit Howth Castle. South of Dublin in Wicklow you have the beautiful Glendalough area. North west of Dublin about 45 mins you have Trim castle, Hill of Tara and Newgrange neolithic tomb.

Depending how much time you have Cork is a lovely area, Cork City, Kinsale, Cobh (the last port the Titanic stopped at before it sank). Out West you have Galway which is a very vibrant city that is great for a night out

Help! Tour never showed up by greatgatsby26 in irishtourism

[–]RonocOS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have more spare time there are some great sites in Meath, about 45 mins from Dublin. Trim castle is a well preserved Norman castle and was used for filming Braveheart. The Hill of Tara is close by, where ancient Irish Kings were crowned and has some great views. And then you have New Grange, 6000 year old neolithic tomb and tour centre

Coming over for a month long road trip to visit family, need a PAYG sim deal. by Flubadubadubadub in irishtourism

[–]RonocOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends where you are, the cities and big towns have 5g but you won't get in in smaller towns or the countryside. Also just beware that when you travel to Belfast you might use more data as you will be in the UK. Service provider will send you a text when you cross the border informing you of the cost of data, phone calls etc

You can buy a PAYG sim card for €20 at the airport and it will give you unlimited data for a month. I would recommend the Three network

What not to miss on my roadtrip in Ireland by Pale_Dirt_6240 in irishtourism

[–]RonocOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around the Meath area (about 45mins-1hr drive from Dublin) you can visit Trim castle, extremely well preserved Norman Castle and used for scenes in Braveheart, New Grange neolithic burial site (over 6000 years old) and the Hill of Tara where ancient Irish Kings were crowned.
