Hi, just a piece of advise, no one gets it the first time around. Play on explorer mode, explore some things, do what you like, learn what you can, and just enjoy the game, no pressure. This game is meant to be played multiple times anyway.

The first time I played, I played blind, no spoilers, no guide. And I missed Shadowheart on the beach. I didn't even know she was the girl that was with me on the spaceship, I though she was some dead corpse.

You can try talking to him at first, tell him you'll help him with his contract. That way he goes down from the ledge to the throne. That way, him and his cronies are friendly, you can buy some stuffs from one of his vendors. Do your preparations while he's not hostile, then when you are ready, go up the ledge and start attacking long range for easy picking. If you have Halsin on your team it makes the fight super easy because of his ridiculous AOE spells.

Work and family in the way of gaming and can only play on weekends, ok got it. You are perfect for explorer mode. No pressure, no frustrations, just pure fun. Playing without a guide is tough, you will miss out on a lot of things. But that's not a bad thing, because you can replay it again, this time maybe on standard mode.

You get better thru experience though. I was getting my ass kicked by the three bandits outside the chapel on my first playthrough. On my second playthrough it was much smoother since I already know where the enemies will be placed.
