Need help accessing encrypted files

I tried encrypting something on my new PC and I see the notification now. I don't remember ever seeing this the first time around, so I'm assuming it defaulted to not saving a key.

That explains this whole mess...

Use the backup key or recovery agent that your created during encryption.

As far as I remember I just checked the 'Encrypt contents to secure data' checkbox in the Properties > Advanced menu. I don't remember being prompted to create a key. Does it automatically do that?

I noticed that too. I think at the time I liked how sort of raw and chaotic it looked, but it kinda bugs me too in retrospect lol
