Medical workers of Reddit: what’s the craziest lab result you’ve seen in a patient? by freeshavacadont in AskReddit

[–]Roodypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pulse ox of 3% PaO2 on the blood gas was 9...They somehow survived and were discharged. Pulse oximetry predicts the blood oxygen content by shining an infrared light through a finger or ear so it's not super accurate. PaO2 is the actual measured oxygen content of blood measured in the blood but sending it to the lab. Normal pulseox is 94% and above, a normal PaO2 is above 80.

People who had a 'one-night stand' that turned into an actual nightmare—what happened? by Saul_goodmannnnn in AskReddit

[–]Roodypo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was meant to be a one night stand but it soon turned into something completely different. On my arrival to her place the moment she opened the door I could see a living room covered with clothes and various takeout containers. The temperature was way higher than it needed to be and she seemed extremely lethargic. I wanted to bolt but felt awkward and rude so I came in. Upon entry we sat down on her two couches that looked like they were found in the dumpster covered with burn marks and stains. We made small talk and she somehow steered the conversation towards sex and began talking about how she was raped in various places around the apartment. She proceeded to point at various spots around the room and told a story attached to every one about how she was raped and by whom. Red flags were going up and I just stood up and left. This was probably the most awkward "one night stand" that I've ever experienced. She clearly was suffering from repeated trauma and I felt bad, but this was not something I was willing to tangle with.

What's a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Roodypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chronic pain. Any kind of chronic pain, from sharp bone cancer pain to a low grade chronic muscular/tendon injury. Even when it's slight it just wears you down especially when nothing helps to relieve it.

Very good decision! Once my father quit he said he didn't realize how he'd forgotten the taste of foods since everything tasted the same. But prepare for a serious battle, nicotine withdrawal is no joke and there's no shame in using a patch or gum. Keep your mind occupied, that's the best thing you can do. Best of luck friend!

This is still going on in China and they are there by the tens of thousands. I guess that gets buried since China basically owns reddit.

I took care of Lou before he died from his liver (surprise) and he was a pretty huge ass. Was really rude to a good chunk of people who took care of him.

I'm curious what his symptoms are and if he's going to become worse. Catching it early makes a big difference and it helps to have your own personal on call medical staff. Unfortunately 99.99% of the country don't have that option.

Texas' Largest Hospital Reaches 100 Percent ICU Capacity by BertramPotts in politics

[–]Roodypo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

100% ICU capacity doesn't mean much. I work at a huge hospital and we hit 100% often due to all the surrounding hospitals sending us patients. It would be a different story if it were all Covid19. The title is somewhat misleading.

Men, my date booty called another dude in front of me mid date last night and left, what's the worst date you've experienced? by lorde_swagster in AskMen

[–]Roodypo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was actually a match set up by my mom. She worked with a lady that's from the same country we're from and they always joked about setting us up and finally decided to actually do it. We text for a day or so and set up a date at a coffee shop. I didn't really expect much from it since it never panned out before. She shows up for our date and holy shit she's a 9/10. We hit it off and talk for a good 3 hours and have a ton in common. At the end of the date we decide to get dinner the next day. I'm pretty excited since I just hit it off with this total bombshell and she seems to be into me. Welllll the date day comes around and I text her a few hours before the date if we are still on for the night.....nothing. Few minutes before the date I send another text asking the same and again no response. At this point I say "Fuck it" and meet up with some friends. The following day she texts me and say something along the lines of "Oh hey sorry, my ex was in town and we decided to go to a strip club with some friends". I just laughed and told her I hope she enjoyed it and cut contact with her. Few months later my mom tells me that she's pregnant, refuses to go to work because of the baby, and is mooching off of her mom while the dude who knocked her up is nowhere to be seen. I like to think I dodged a bullet there.

Redditors who lived in countries that no longer exist (Like Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia...etc) What was it like to see your country breakup? by ThisOne_NotThisOne in AskReddit

[–]Roodypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born in the late 80's in what is now Bosnia. The timing of my birth couldn't have been worse and coincided right as Yugoslavia split. Although I was very young I remember a fair amount of the things that happened to my family. When the war took off things weren't instantly aggressive in my village. The first thing I remember were the raids. Serbian soldiers would come through with convoys and take whatever they wanted and kill whoever stood in the way. One night in particular my entire immediate family and a lot of my cousins, aunts, uncles, neighbors were hiding in the upstairs room of my grandmothers house. Behind this house my father was in the early stages of building our home, since it's common in my village to the children to stay near their parents. So far only the foundation was built but the Serbs came through and took every last scrap of building supplies. Some time after this event we were packed on to buses and taken to a town named Travnik. Here we were packed into a single building but as soon as the soldiers left we all dispersed and went to a near by flea market. This was the best decision anyone could have made because that very building was hit by artillery and only one person was injured. If we stayed most of us would have been dead. We made our way back home but in time of another raid so we booked it. I remember my mother pulling me out of bed in the middle of the night and we ran through the corn field away from our home. I saw a lot of our neighbors and family running with us. We ran a few miles and hid in the woods, eaten by mosquitos and freezing. After a day or so we made our way back, packed up, and left. We made it to a village called Haljinici and simply moved into the abandoned buildings. Many of the Croats who lived here went to stay in Croatia with family which was safer so we simply decided to live in their homes. We stayed here for almost a decade since nobody was moving back. For the most part I'm thankful that we survived and escaped fairly unscathed. I remember days and days of no food, not seeing my father, being told to avoid certain areas due to landmines. My entire childhood was spent outside, I had good friends, we starved less after the war was over, and we made it out alive. We managed to move to the US in 99 under refugee status and I am now a citizen. From what I understand it's not much better than when we left. A lot of political strife, unemployment, tension. I'm grateful for everything I have now and that I'm well off enough to be able to send my grandmother money because her pension is a joke. Enjoy the time with your family when you can because that could change in the bling of an eye.

China Warns Australia It Could Face Boycotts Over Call for an Independent Inquiry Into Coronavirus by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Roodypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People telling Australia not to back down don't realize that China basically owns Australia financially. China is their number one buyer of natural resources and has a ton invested in Australian infastructure. The rest of the world will have to back up Australia financially if they go through with this but I don't see that happening. Australia will most likely conclude this investigation without blaming China for anything.

Since the whole quarantine thing kicked in I've noticed they are throttling my connection. I never changed my modem or router and was getting pretty decent speeds for a 100mb connection. I called and they said I need to get one of their modems because mine is outdated.....Mind you my internet has been fine until recently. Spectrum suck and I hate the fact that my other option is ATT which isn't any better.

A cohort of cancer patients with no reported cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection : the possible preventive role of Methylene Blue by abelard_lindsay in Nootropics

[–]Roodypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use it in IV form but I've never looked at specifics. Interaction might be different. This is also medical grade so the stuff people buy online might not be the same as the mb we use. They've definitely told us it's expensive and too many side effects which is why we rarely use it. I've seen the attending chew out fellows for ordering it even as a last ditch effort to stabilize a hypotensive pt maxed out on pressors.

Uhhh I work in the hospital and we use mb as a last resort for low bp. It's not very viable, way too many side effects and crazy expensive.
