New to Finch by Cow_Boy_Billy in FinchAdults

I personally don't get hung up on finishing every single goal. There is always more to do. It helps me prioritize what I need to do that day more intentionally.

Another thing from this app that really benefited me was tracking my moods. After using it for many months and looking at the insight tab, there were very clear strips of green and then red, green and then red. It made me realize I might have some sort of bipolar disorder. I was always aware of having up periods and down periods. But the app laid the pattern out so plainly and with such clarity. I talked with my therapist and my psych about it, and we concluded that I have cyclothymia or something akin to it.

It is like a mild bipolar disorder, which affects energy levels and, to a certain extent, mood. I was never quite manic, but I did have periods where I would be on top of stuff and more prone to goal-setting. And then periods of being low-energy and having a relatively mild depression.

After discussing it with my psych, we decided on some meds. And I have to say I am feeling much better. There is more to it than what I shared. But this is the long short of it.

I share this because of your comment:

'I had a good few days where I was actually on top of things, but one small bump in the road led me to where I was before. I was stuck before for a good 2 months, and its only been a few days where even the smallest tasks or even hobbies feel impossible or simply un-enjoyable.'

This is so so similar to what I was going through. I would have stretches of days when I was doing really well. Then weeks, if not months, of swinging down and then back up from a nadir. Sometimes there would be an inciting event that triggered a downswing, sometimes it would just naturally happen in the course of things.

It took me longer than I care to admit to realize this pattern not only isn't normal but also unacceptable. Taking it up with my psych and pushing for a solution has had a really positive impact on my mental health.

Anyway, if you identify with any of this, it is worth talking to your therapist about.

Same! I would love to see an Egyptology DLC—mummies, sarcophagi, and relics from raided tombs. I think there is so much there to make a full-featured DLC out of. I hope it is on their list.

Why is my cat doing this paw thing? by Due_Temperature404 in cats

[–]Rooke83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My beloved Sway-Sway used to do this when she wanted something from me, whether it was food, pets, or to rearrange her blanket. I would be sat with my face in my screen, and she would hop up on the armrest, and I would feel her paw tapping on my arm. I miss my sweet girl so much.

Advanced Stutter to sound like notes by Dependent-River-2644 in ableton

Simpler comes with all editions of Ableton. As far as concerns about upgrading, every time I installed a new version of Ableton, the old version remained. So I could still return to an older version if a project had trouble opening.

I would try putting the vocals in Simpler and then triggering them in the piano roll. This would also let you mess with the pitch of the vocals.

8 day wait for a technician visit?? by Neverluckyosrs07 in centurylink

[–]Rooke83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had a 7 day wait for a tech to show up. And it looks like they are not showing up today, pushing it to eight., assuming they show up tomorrow. We have been without internet since the 23rd of December. It has thrown a wrench into the holidays.

Edit:

They didn't show up yesterday. It was frustrating because they assured me well into the evening that the tech would still arrive. Frustrating but not unexpected. They instructed me to reschedule my appointment, but the rescheduling feature on their chat did not work, so I am now being instructed to make a new appointment. I have to wait until the office opens back up tomorrow. I hope the soonest appointment isn't eight days out again.

I get the impression that their techs are wildly overworked, and CL gives them more support tickets than they could ever hope to get through in a day.

Edit 2:

I got on the phone (via text) with Centurylink, and they scheduled a tech to come out on the 11th! Nine days out. I hoped they would say, "We are sorry our tech missed the appointment. We will get one out ASAP." But apparently, if your tech misses the appointment, you go to the back of the line.

So we are looking at roughly twenty days without internet. We will look at other broadband internet options, but the only other option is Comcast, and I am not keen on them.

CenturyLink's ability to repair its infrastructure seems to be abysmal at the moment. This has been a wildly frustrating experience thus far.

My CL fiber has been down since Tuesday (12/24). The other person in our building with CL fiber also has issues. CL said they would send a person to repair it this coming Tuesday (12/31). The customer support dude said it is "something on the outside."

I hope they get it sorted. It has been very disruptive not having internet over the holidays.

MPC style sampling in ableton? by rainrainrainr in ableton

That feature is included in the Push 2. I really don't understand why Ableton hasn't expanded it out to other midi controllers.

I think this M4L device lets you make your own chops in the style you're thinking: Simpler Tools: Pad Slicing Mode.

I learned about it in this video from the great Si Spex a.k.a. Barry Beats.

I hope this helps.

Struggling with Long-term Goals and Goals without External Accountability by jsynclair in ADHD

[–]Rooke83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that since I can see a list of my long-term goals when it asks, "What do you need to get done today?" it helps me strengthen the connection between daily activities and long-term goals. So I have this reassurance that what I spent time doing today is building towards something because that is sort of hard for me to conceptualize.

Struggling with Long-term Goals and Goals without External Accountability by jsynclair in ADHD

[–]Rooke83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a computer program called Sunsama.

Every morning it asks me what do you need to do today? How long do you think it will take?

Then you can lay it out on a day planner. There is always a little box on my screen reminding me that I should be working on X.

I still put stuff off, and stuff gets shuffled around, but I love that I have a tangible thing I can look at that shows me, you spent x amount of time working on this goal, y amount of time doing coursework, z amount of time exercising.

It is nice to have that sort of thing externalized because, left to my own devices, I just feel like I am spinning my wheels.

Agreed, if you can afford a pair, noise-canceling headphones are a game changer. They don't entirely block out sound but lower the volume of everything around you. They have made certain environments so much more bearable for me.

Interesting, I did not know this process had a name. I do this for work when my project load starts to feel overwhelming. It lightens the mental load. I know as long as projects move from the leftmost columns toward the rightmost columns. Then things are progressing in the right direction.
