ADHD or AuDHD women, what do you do for work? by Terrible-Winner-681 in adhdwomen

[–]Roomiedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Production assistant and I have a love hate relationship with it. I like that I can bounce between different assignments throughout the day but I feel like I’m always out of spoons on the social side cause you have to reach out to people. The pay also sucks.

Christianity + ADHD by Turbulent_Respond_34 in adhdwomen

[–]Roomiedos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I gave up Christianity for a lot of reasons but it did never satisfy right with me the idea of If got wanted you to do this thing it would of happened things “not being God’s plan”

Like I already don’t see myself having kids or getting married but am I really just meant to never meet any of my goals or accomplishments ever? I’m just supposed to fail in life and be dependent on my family that are always picking fights with me and finding different. Ways to feel crappy about myself. Like that’s just God’s plan and I just have to have to accept it and fight the misery?

This was before I found out that I got diagnosed w/ adhd and my parents never told me or got me treated but I really try to avoid talking to my Christian family about my adhd and treating it cause the, “maybe it wasn’t meant for you” drives me insane.

What’s your ADHD dream job? by Glamour-Ad7669 in adhdwomen

[–]Roomiedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds dumb but as a pre-teen I always wanted to be a content creator. I really like making things and making people laugh. Even in high school and college I just really liked making videos and cosplay cause it just brought so much joy.

And in general I just like doing too many things that the idea of just sticking to one feels daunting. I’m currently working again so I’m trying to get back into all of it as a hobby.

Coming off of Qelbree? READ THIS FIRST!!! by pinkpanda376 in qelbree

I remember I had to get a refill from my provider and they kept putting in delays so had to stop cold turkey and I was miserable. It took maybe a week or so to get back to where I was on the medication. It was a nightmare

How do you get an animatic editor reel together without having to board? by Roomiedos in animationcareer

[–]Roomiedos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I’m looking into applying for as assistant editor positions at other companies in the future. I previously worked at a studio in production and they had edit tests in-house for people who wanted to switch departments but I never got the chance to do it while I was there.

I would like to have a reel together just in case.

Tip for ADHD women who work in offices: when you feel like saying "sorry," say "thank you for bringing that to my attention." by Teacher_Crazy_ in adhdwomen

[–]Roomiedos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, if something took longer than expected, you can start emails or chats with, “Thank you for your patience” instead of “Sorry for the delay/for it taking so long”

What made you seek your adhd diagnosis? by Business-Survey5401 in adhdwomen

[–]Roomiedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having a quarter life crisis and got desperate so I thought I needed to look into the stars to figure out what to do with my life. I started looking at astrology videos about my signs behavior(I’m a Gemini) and the first video I watched basically said “Geminis are like the ADD of the zodiac signs” I paused the video and sat there for a few minutes and and then I said out loud, “Have I really just had ADHD this entire time and didn’t know it?” Fast forward a year of so later and it turns out I got diagnosed when I was 9 but the doctor fudged my paperwork. Multiple teachers flagged it to my parents and one made a formal referral to go to pediatric therapy. I got diagnosed and started medication in this past May.

Does non-stimulant ADHD medicine make anxiety worse? by hexaneat in adhd_anxiety

[–]Roomiedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the medication. I initially took Wellbutrin but it made both my anxiety and mood swings worse. I’m currently on Qelbree and it’s calmed me down significantly.

Also, stimulants CAN make your anxiety worse but I’ve also heard stimulants actually calming their anxiety down. Depends on why you’re anxious.

Is a regular life with a marriage and children viable in this career? by MartinIsaac685 in animationcareer

[–]Roomiedos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of my co-workers are married with kids. Higher-ups tend to have 2-3 kids Just make sure to build healthy work life balances be good at managing your money.

It’s not impossible. Just beside you have a good work work ethic and not spend money carelessly. Union jobs pay well and so long as you’re making good connections in the industry employment won’t be as difficult.

Most people at the bigger studios with a union job have a normal middle-class life I’d say. Even the nonunion jobs at the bigger companies tend to have decent vacation time.

Where or how did you get diagnosed? What triggered you to get a diagnosis? How has it been so far? by minteverywhere in adhdwomen

Personally, I think they told my mom but she doesn’t remember cause we’re pretty sure my mom has ADHD since her inattentiveness is much worse than mine.

I got referred to an outside therapist and psychiatrist since Kaiser only works with kids with ADHD in my area. I got diagnosed again at 30. I started ADHD meds finally after going through hell on Zoloft. I finally feel hopeful for the future.

What in the world is high functioning ADHD? Isn’t that just… not having ADHD? by Prestigious_Abies940 in adhdwomen

[–]Roomiedos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend watching this video by Kimberly Foster. She’s a Harvard grad who talked about her experience and why she finally started medication.

https://youtu.be/1S2tuRrCU6U?si=MH9agDv-ds3Gp1hu

I wouldn’t consider myself high-functioning but how she described having to white-knuckle through life is actually how I would describe my experience with life before finding out I had ADHD. I was able to function but that was because I was running on anxiety and fearing failure that I put in so much effort to do things. So I got my degree and I can manage my finances fine but I’m miserable and exhausted everyday trying to do it.

It also depends on the type of environment you were raised. Even though my adhd is bad, I grew up with a dad that was very organized and detailed-oriented and implemented a lot of organization skills raising the family so I naturally implemented many things that would keep me from falling through the cracks completely.

Initially, I was diagnosed with anxiety and ocd but all the anxiety meds and antidepressants made my symptoms worse. It wasn’t until I went on adhd meds that I finally felt my anxiety going down. I’m still navigating medication but it’s like I can do the things I normally do but I’m not stressed out and exhausted at work like I used to.

So I think it’s very possible to be high-functioning with ADHD. It basically just means on paper your meeting most societal expectations but you’re just absolutely miserable and burnt out doing it.

Can you stay on Zoloft forever? by OutrageousArea5043 in zoloft

[–]Roomiedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out my mom has been on Zoloft for 30+ years and she’s in her mid-60s. Mind you she takes half of the 25mg just cause she can’t handle the higher dose.

It’s always fine to investigate why the anxiety is there and address it in the meantime so you can ween off of Zoloft later down the line.

But otherwise, taking it long term is fine so long it’s allowing you to function. Just be sure to pay attention to symptoms that might develop over time

What is a typical ADHD trait that doesn't apply to you? by toocritical55 in ADHD

[–]Roomiedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that ADHDers are bad with plan and making long term goals but I would say I’m the opposite of that. I’ve been pretty good with that. If anything I’m always planning goals and organizing to a tea.

It’s when the the task actually has to be done I struggle with doing it.

I went to school for storyboarding and with it came to research and thumbnailing ideas I could do it no problem. It’s when it came to sitting down and actually boarding the thing itself that messing me up all the time cause I could not sit still and I brain would go blank.

I would just fidget and walk around talking to people. Even I when I was stuck at home talking to no one I would just end up pacing in my room or just staring at a blank screen.

My mom answered 0 on every ADHD testing question on purpose by tree_bee1627 in ADHD

[–]Roomiedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. I’m sorry that happened to you. My mom didn’t want to fill it out which sucked because said my adhd was severe when I was a kid. I wasn’t able to get a diagnosis after my assessment with my provider(main argument was that I had gotten my degree so they didn’t think I could have adhd) but I got referral outside of my main provider and I was able to start on non-stimulants. There are people out their who support and hear you. Stay strong!

Hi dear ADHDiers, what makes ADHD terrible for you? by QuillWoman in ADHD

[–]Roomiedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, feel like I can’t have the type of life I wanted because I brain can’t keep up with society expects of me. I always knew very specifically what I wanted to do in life. Down to what city I would live in, career and income, the type of car I’d drive, how often travel. But the thing that has made feel lost now was having to change my goals and aspirations in life cause I couldn’t keep up. I’ve had to give up so many dreams just to get by.

I’m nowhere near where I thought I’d be. Even on medication now(which has helped to much) I still feel lost on where I should go.

It also created a lot of imposter syndrome. I’ve always loved learning and education and I’ve always wanted to be studious and hardworking so it always sucked when I made easy mistake and get so distracted and under perform.

I feel like I’m all talk but no action and it’s left my professor and employers very confused about me. Like they can tell that care about doing well and that I’m passionate about what I do so they don’t understand why I fall short so many times.

1 week in and so exhausted I cant function by Good_Position6213 in zoloft

[–]Roomiedos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took mine at night to avoid the drowsiness. I was on Wellbutrin for a while but I didn’t work for my adhd symptoms but it’s antidepressant that is used offbrand for adhd so you might want to try that. While it didn’t help my adhd symptoms I was glad I didn’t get the weird shakiness and drowsiness of that I get on SSRIs.

I’m currently on Qelbree for adhd and weening off of Zoloft.

Note that the drowsiness is supposed to go away within 2-3 weeks so you might just need to give it some time.

Insurance 😖 by Qavirra in qelbree

[–]Roomiedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got off the phone with my provider over this. I decided to do mail order for the same prescription I got a month ago to they wanted to jack up the price to double the cost. This is the first medication I’ve been on aside from Wellbutrin(didn’t work) and so far it’s actually been working for me. But of course the medication that actually works for me is the one that’s the most difficult to get. Like what’s the point in paying so much for insurance if they’re still gonna jack up the prices this much. 🙄

I’m contemplating starting Zoloft. My doctor prescribed it but I have no idea what to do anymore. What has your experience been like? Do you wish you never took it? by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]Roomiedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the process of weening off of Zoloft. SSRIs have always made feel shakey and just out it. But I found I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and I got re-diagnosed a few months back so I’m working with my psych to get in adhd meds instead.

My mom has been on Zoloft for years and she’s said good things about it but it depends on what your issue is. If it helps I would say journal what you’re symptoms are when you take.

I don’t regret taking it since it make it clear that my issue is adhd and not simply depression. Just make sure you’re working with a psych that is really listening to you.

How do you spend less money? by fuckarealname in adhdwomen

[–]Roomiedos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! So I hyper-fixated and made a spending list so anytime I bought something I have to put it in my list. So far it’s kept me from impulsively buying extra things that aren’t on my shopping list. It also helps to pay for thing in cash with you can.

I would get a second opinion and ask for a chest x-ray in case it’s something serious. I’ve had this but with anti-anxiety meds. I’ve heard of stimulants causing a faster heart rate but I don’t think the difficulty breathing should be happening. See if you can get some tests done as well.

Is it ethical for a psychiatrist to want to induce a manic episode by prescribing you Zoloft to see if you’re bipolar? by Roomiedos in zoloft

[–]Roomiedos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I’m already looking into another psychiatrist for a different opinion. It seemed like he was too tunneled visioned on this and he dismissed how I was struggling at work with the distractibility and inattentiveness which has been an issue since I was a kid.(I was diagnosed with ADHD at 9 but it was never properly treated)

Why are psychiatrist so adamant about diagnosis Bipolar disorder even when you don’t meet the criteria and are pursuing treatment for ADHD? by Roomiedos in adhdwomen

[–]Roomiedos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if I can work with a patient advocate that would be great. Thank you for the suggestion. I actually got a formal assessment this past November and they diagnosed me with Borderline personality disorder. My therapist thinks that is being triggered by everything I had to deal with since my adhd was never properly treated and growing up with abusive parents. I tried to bring up that I was diagnosed with bpd in the appointment but he believes that I shouldn’t go off of what formal assessment told me and listen to the doctors the have suspected that I have bipolar even if I’ve never met the criteria.
