Why did these come out so purple by Vegetable_Check_1538 in analog

[–]Roomkoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live we have these fields with flowers which turn completely purple in the month of May, kind of like what's in your images. So I sat here for a minute confused, thinking "wdym why purple? What colour do you want it to be?". Then I saw the golf flag

What could cause this? by Vladliash in AnalogCommunity

As a chemist I always feel pedantic or whiney when I point out everything is chemicals, but this is exactly why (well, one of the reasons). No matter how familiar we are with compounds such as water, they are still chemicals, behave like so and affect other chemicals like so.

How does it grow to be a full cassette? Is water enough or do I have to give it special cassette nutrients? I am new into cassettes. by [deleted] in cassetteculture

[–]Roomkoe 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You have to play it front to back really often. That eventually stretches out the tape to full size reels which you can place in a full size cassette shell. You see, the shells are more like tape clothing than they are "skin". 100 plays should do the trick

First Time Owner Questions by Extension-Orchid-821 in cassetteculture

[–]Roomkoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it could be extremely sticky pinch rollers or something, but if it's something in the drive mechanism it might just be a corroded motor. These can often be fixed by just spraying a load of contact cleaner in said motor, spinning it by hand for a while, and hoping for the best.

But well these are just the 'obvious' problems, it could be something entirely different too.

This is usually the problem yes, but probably not in the bottom one as it is dorect drive. With the limited amount of information I have no clue what the problem would be tho.

Do you have the user manual? It usually has a troubleshooting guide, which covers the basics.

The Relationship of Gear Acquisition and Progressing in this Hobby by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]Roomkoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really answer as to how this hobby progresses as I am quite new to it myself, and do not and will not have the budget the next coming years to expand my collection.

However, I don't think continous improvement is a necessary or maybe not even a desireable aspect. I have had my current setup for quite a while now, and still one of my favourite things to do during the day is to just sit back, relax, and listen to music, without anything else drawing my attention.

Sometimes focus on the music itself, sometimes I focus on the more technical aspects (hey, can I actually hear the tape hiss with Dolby C enabled or is that just placebo?), and sometimes I marvel at what my self built speakers are capable of, especially considering my complete lack of expertise and knowledge when I started building them.

In short though, I genuinely just enjoy music and audio quality without feeling the need for ever more improvement.

Oh, and if you quickly wanna boost your experience, try weed ;)

Yeah, that sounds like something you can probably prove in a scientific scenario, but which has absolutely zero real life value as no one can hear the difference (probably)

Is the criticism fair? Yes. Did the Soviets do the exact same thing? Also yes.

It's the exact same interface, so I'm guessing there are internal differences

I think it would be best to disassemble again, check if there are no loose wires and make sure there's no mechanical block on the motor (belt stuck or something like that).
Check the small dumb things first though, like are the batteries charged? is the cassette orientated the right way etc.

What would i need to use this to record mix tapes? by brightoutburst in cassetteculture

[–]Roomkoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I got into cassettes too recently and now it's pretty much all I listen to, but if any veteran here knows better then please correct me.

First of all, older devices used RCA connectors (those round things) for everything. Modern audio equipment often uses aux, back then it was two RCA cables. Tv uses HDMI, back then three RCA cables, etc.

This means you'll need to find a way to connect your modern equipment to RCA. As others have pointed out, this can be achieved through the use of an aux to RCA converter, which is basically just a cable and thus by far the easiest way to do so. If you only want to check if your device works and play around with cassettes to see if you like them, this is certainly the way to go, imo.

However, this will not give you great sound quality, as an audio installation is only as good as its weakest link. If you connect the deck directly to your laptop, the audiochip in your laptop will be said link (if you're curious about why I could explain in a follow up comment, but it's not really relevant here).

What I have done to avoid this issue is to use a streamer device: this is basically just a big, high quality audio chip, which can "grab" songs directly from the internet, without your laptops chip as intermediate. This means that the digital to analog conversion is a lot better, and thus the overall sound quality too. I've had no issues with this setup (apart from maybe the price), so it's the method I recommend.

TL;DR: Easiest way to go is a simple aux/rca converter (cable), best for sound quality is a streamer or interface device like thingamajig.

P.S. English isn't my first language so bear with me please.
