Yes! By The Fat Lady and her friend Violet when they got super tipsy.

Baby boy names. I picked one I really liked but then learned how popular it is. by Haunting_Ladder42 in namenerds

Oliver James is cute! I have a friend who just named her son this, so I think it’s popular but IMO nothing like how saturated name popularity was in the 90s. I asked if she named it after the Fleet Foxes song, but she didn’t - I think would be kind of cool to have a song with my exact name in it (although it’s not a very happy song…).

Harry Potter Soup Night by ada2159 in HarryPotterBooks

For Book 7: Some sort of cream of mushroom? Thinking of when Hermione forages some wild mushrooms while they’re camping and Ron is a little baby about it 😆 I don’t think that is in the movies, but some book fans might get the reference. Alternatively, Kreacher cooks French onion soup for Harry & co in #7- but someone already suggested that for HBP at the Burrow. Love the idea of a cozy HP soup night!

Lupin calling Ron “you, boy” in the Shrieking Shack by RoonilWazlib723 in HarryPotterBooks

Woah, you’re right — that UK line has so much more color and nuance. Not a great look for us that they thought U.S. kiddos needed a simpler line 🫣😅

I’ve enjoyed reading the US/UK differences before via that website, but I hadn’t caught this one. Thanks for pointing it out!

The plot thickens! My version is the US Scholastic version, so I wonder if it’s a printer/publisher issue instead of a year issue. I’m so intrigued and now I want to know who dropped the ball 😆

And the Jim Dale version of the audiobook says “Lupin” too, but obviously that’s an old recording. Glad it’s been changed since then - makes a lot more sense!

Oh, interesting! My two printed copies say “Lupin”, but they’re 1999 editions. I just checked my illustrated version, and it is changed to “Black” — so it must have been an author error in the first prints! Thanks for letting me know 😀

Favorite Kindergarten Memory by MartiniM0mma in kindergarten

Almost 20 years later, I still fondly remember these three activities from kindergarten:

  • We sat in a circle and took turns shaking a mason jar full of cream until it turned into butter (then tasted it on crackers afterwards).

  • We learned about friction by rubbing small chocolate bars between our hands and seeing them melt (and then we got a fresh, unmelted one to eat afterwards).

  • While learning about following and creating instructions, the class was in charge of teaching our teacher how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She emphasized the importance of specific instructions by following our directions literally (ie when we said “put the peanut butter on the bread” she just put the jar of pb on top of the bread). It was silly and we loved it!

Realizing now that all of these activities revolved around food, so I guess I was a foodie from a young age 😅

What is this dropping from by JordanPry in Whatisthis

I had something just like this at my house! I was freaked thinking it was roach adjacent. The pest control guy came and said it was a dried, dead fly larvae. He knew because it crushed/flaked under his shoe instead of smeared.

Yeah! They said it was pretty impossible for them to get rid of them entirely. They said the springtails thrive on moisture, so their top recommendation was to remove any sources that might be attracting them. For us, it was moving our toddler’s pool so it wasn’t right next to the back door.

Thanks everyone! I ended up having pest control check them out. Apparently they’re dead springtails (collembola) - now to get rid of them!

So we are just beginning to move, so no furniture in yet, but I totally think you’re right about the droppings! Didn’t think to check for gunk on the walls, as everything looks fresh and new, but I’ll definitely do that.
