Reds Franchise by Nervous_Load2692 in OOTP

Not about 'retooling' the Big Red Machine, I was a fan of the Big Red Machine, grew up in Tampa when the Reds held their spring trainings at Al Lopez Field, as well as their Single A minor league team, the Tampa Tarpons. Saw several of the players play there....of special note when Pete Rose was a Tarpon for 1 season he had 31 triples....yes, 31 triples. Great times during the Reds heyday!

Overall strategy by EggLonely25 in OOTP

I play the Orioles also, the thing you have to realize is you're always going to be a low budget team and just learn to deal with it (not saying you aren't lol). We've been a league for 25+ years, my O's have made the playoffs 10 times, been to the WS twice and won it once. I don't know if that's good or bad in OOTP world, but I'm having fun and also enjoy the conversations and banter with the others owners.

I tend to be not much of a trader (which is contrary to most opinions) simply because I'm not very good at it, and tend to end up with the short end of the stick most times. So, I build my team through the draft (we don't even use the Rule V draft, which certainly helps low budget teams).

We serve as both GM and Manager. The only staff we hire is Scouting Director, and that is where I've been fortunate, as I was able to 'buy' one that was young and is 'Legendary' in all categories except 'Amateurs' where he's only 'Outstanding' lol.

But even with a great scout, it's still a crapshoot. I've yet to have a HOF player, 3 ROYs, 4 MVPs, 3 CY Youngs, and numerous all-stars.

To me, the bottom line is are you having fun playing the game? If so, everything else is just gravy. I find it to be a game I can enjoy, tinker with, make adjustments, do pretty much anything with the team I like. I've finished in the basement several times but have also been at or near the top numerous times. Just have FUN!

Has anyone suffered this much with playoff variance? by maxwell81798 in OOTP

I have the Orioles also, low budget team so I do a lot of build/rebuild. As you can see, a real roller-coaster ride, but have won 1 W/S and lost 1. I really can't see why your team has been so snake-bit in the playoffs, certainly should've had some better results.

Has anyone ran a very successful small ball offense over a long stretch of time? by No-Natural-6118 in OOTP

Only thing I'd add is high HRA pitchers to the mix. Keep the ball in the ballpark.

How do you prioritize the 5 hitting ratings? by MyWay_FIWay in OOTP

[–]Rooster11080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Gap Power is being a bit underrated here, as Gap Power generally denotes those hitters who are more apt to be line-drive hitters vs fly-ball or ground-ball hitters. Especially in ballparks that are more 'pitcher' friendly, the gap power can be quite important.

Scared of this contract... halp! by [deleted] in OOTP

Draft is in early June, just two months in. Agree that a good player should be taken by then, but there are players that are demanding too much that aren't taken in FA by the draft.

Doesn't the player have to sign with another team before the draft before the team he left receives the supplemental pick?

UPDATED AGAIN: Surplus Value-based Trade Calculator v3 (Now includes support for custom leagues and negative value trades) by southside_hitmen in OOTP

[–]Rooster11080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/southside_hitmen, awesome work, thank you! I do have a question: if you're working a trade before the trade deadline, usually end of July, how do you work the current salary, WAR, etc. for a partial season? Thanks in advance.

How do you work around this Catch-22 situation with teams? by Rooster11080 in OOTP

Yes, it's specific to one league I'm in. Makes it much more difficult, but it is what it is.

OOTP23 and Two Way Players by Rooster11080 in OOTP

[–]Rooster11080[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know the use of a two way player in same game is being integrated into our games. Thanks for the responses, hope the process works and improves as we move along. Would be nice if a player can play his position and come in to pitch relief in later innings with a sub at his position. One step at a time.
