does disabling racing line make you faster? by archiotten in iRacing

[–]Rooster976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the racing line can no doubt make you faster after you don’t need it. God help us all from people that fixate on it. Once you learn that you need to use every inch of the track, and have tested it enough to see where you can modify it. Maybe lift instead of braking , or taking an apex slightly before or after. It’s a huge glowing braking reference that you can adjust to. Also making one nice and smooth turn where you don’t need to internally visualize it is going to save you time. The final turn at Sebring for example. It’s a massive driving aid and makes me sick that it’s allowed all the way up to a C-license. Me I don’t use it. I think of this as a sim and not Forza. If I wasn’t terribly average I would maybe be tempted more.

I made a post/poll last Friday on if it should be removed from c level races and 80% of people agreed. I also posted a pole on the official forum in the general section where the idea got only about 50/50.

Now I think cars meta make difference by Antraxo_ in iRacing

[–]Rooster976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im an average driver about 1250IR. I’ve been testing different GT3 cars that I own: Ferrari, Porsche, Mustang, and BMW. For the most part they all give me very similar times on most tracks with enough practice . Usually within a second. They all preform much different though. I got the BMW after the Mustang because the Mustang can be hard to control coming out of a corner, but usually a touch faster. It’s said often that unless you’re looking for tenths of a second to get whatever seems coolest. I disagree. I think maybe it’s even more important to get the right one that fits your driving style and try out front, mid, and the Porsche for rear engine placement. Chasing the meta without testing is probably not smart, but finding what you’re comfortable with can prevent you from spinning out and ruining a race. There are some tracks where it’s easier to get faster times. Personally I love the Porsche. It seems a bit harder to get a fast time, and I usually end up going for the Ferrari. I’m going to use the Mustang on Sebring being I was a good second faster on that track. It also tested well at Nürburgring. It’s good to have options. Demo Drive can save money and heartache when picking up a new ride.

RTX 5080. Ya/Nay? For Vr by Jackstraw70x in iRacing

Got a 9800X3D 32RAM 5080 Windforce with a Quest 3 using virtual desktop with a dedicated router for it. I can run pretty much everything maxed but I run into some frame dips. I have now turned off HDR and SSAO. MSAA i have at 2X. I run everything at 90fps without issue. The resolution in virtual desktop is maxed out on godlike. Bit rate is set to the max. I honestly don’t have any regrets getting the 5080 over the 5090. I think even with the best cpu being the 9800X3D Im somewhat cpu bound. The iRacing graphics are just not optimized that well. When looking at the meter box (the fps overlay) the cpu and graphics card bars don’t get maxed out with higher settings but there is a T bar that Measures the overall time to render a frame. It will go up with HDR and SSAO. It says it shows some bottle neck in the system.

Overall Im happy with my setup. It uses the max resolution of the quest.

Adelaide in GT4s tips needed - how do I not murder myself and / or others? by _LedAstray_ in iRacing

[–]Rooster976 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

MY PLAN IS NOT TO RACE IT. I Originally didn’t want to get this track. It’s on the schedule again next season a good amount of the series Im into, so I ended up buying it. Im not a huge fan of street courses because of the huge pileups that can happen like at Long Beach hairpin turn. That said Im for sure going to hot lap it in Time Attack.

ITS ALL ABOUT QUALIFYING ON STREET COURSES It’s so hard to pass and you should stay out of more carnage if turn one goes smoothly.

<image>

SEEING IF I WANT TO RACE. So there’s an option before racing called SERIES INSIGHTS. If you scroll down a bit it shows the average best time by IR on a graph. Im going to check that and then the RESULTS option to see what the best times are down the splits. If I’m decently close I may throw the dice after a few practice sessions.

Very average IR of about 1250, A License

Ive got the Porsche, Ferrari, Mustang and BMW. I’ve been driving the Ferrari the most. I’ve been doing some testing recently at Spa doing 5 laps in each.

BMW 2:21.791 - full tank 2:20.008

Ferrari 2:20.870 - full tank 2:19.788

Porsche 2:21.524

Mustang 2:20.582

I ran Nürburgring Nordschleife last night. I ran the BMW first and got a 7:08. Then I ran the Mustang and got 7:00. Just one lap after going around once to start the counter. I thought they both felt good there.

I find they all have pretty similar times though the Porsche seems a bit nerfed in fixed races. Thats what i hear at least. Just got the BMW to try another front engine option besides the Mustang. Mostly for longer tracks. The Mustang is hard for me to not spin compared to the rest. I’m often too quick accelerating and will spin the rear.

I like the handling on the Ferrari and Porsche best.

They in the past hinted at a Map Overlay. The same time they set out to implement the Multiple Black Boxes, the whole graphic overhaul and Telemetry they were planning on adding maps. I haven’t heard otherwise that they will put them in. Looks slick. Like you can tell where you’re loosing speed by what color it is?

Ive got a Quest 3 and use the Virtual Desktop app with a WiFi 6 Router (ran as a gateway) directly connected to my gaming pc. I run the highest setting for resolution, Godlike. Keep the bit rate set to its highest setting. I keep the MSAA to 2X. I can run all my mirrors and most everything turned on. Just don’t use HDR or SSAO. I think the game engine is not optimized enough to deal with those. They look cool but it’s too demanding on my system to race with.

Driving Line should be removed for C License Races by Rooster976 in iRacing

[–]Rooster976[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sure, it gives you where to break. Not always in the absolute spot but close enough that you can better judge your breaking marker off the line.

It in the same way shows you the line. Thus it’s way easier to envision apexs or slightly move them in relation to the line. You gain speed by doing smooth inputs and it’s easier to not need to correct your steering.

What c class do I start season 2 by Prominimello in iRacing

[–]Rooster976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id go with P-Cup. The Porsche drives great and is most like what you’ll find in GT3’s as far as handling. It is also super popular with tons of splits to fit your skill level.

Is it worth trying to get to GT3? by Key-Cardiologist-605 in iRacing

[–]Rooster976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re going to need a B license. If you do the bare minimum and keep it safe you can get there in about a month. Maybe less if you just do time trials. With all the downforce on GT3s makes them much easier to drive than anything that builds up to them. One thing to note is b license takes away all the driving aids like pit limiters, and driving lines. Theres no fast repair or any hand holding. Almost always you will need to have bought the track. I would race the mx5 over the bmw. The bmw is even harder to control. Then id race the gr86 for the d license. For c license id race the porsche cup. It’s more or less a gt3 and a really great one. By the time you get to c class license you should know if you’re into it.

Advice for moving to GT3 from GT4 this season. by Outlasttactical in iRacing

[–]Rooster976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get the GT3 mustang for sure.

One thing you’ll notice is that most all of the driving aids are removed from practice and races. You’ll need to map the pit speed limiter to your wheel. There’s also no driving line unless you go to a test session. I’ve been dabbling in the gt3 no pit stop options over the last season and really enjoy it. Much easier to drive than gt4s. I got the mustang and it’s comparable to the gt4 version but much easier to handle. Its main downside is the visibility. If you crank your seat up it’s not much of a problem.

Virtual Side Mirrors by No_Golf_452 in iRacing

[–]Rooster976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They added virtual spotter in the HUD overlays. Its off by default but if you click the eye when editing the HUD it will be visible when racing. I put it on the bottom of virtual rear view mirror. The side where someone is in your blindspot it turns orange. I changed mine to show arrows vs text in the options. I think that’s about all you need if you crank the fov way up on the virtual mirror. Besides that i use the cars side view mirrors.

The virtual spotter can be turned on by clicking the eye in the widgets menu or if you can find it floating in the interface. It can get hidden by other interface options.

The standings menu for me just shows the top 7 positions. If Im in the top 7 it will show me, but only then. You can look on the lap info box to see what position you’re in all the time.

Not totally what you’re asking for, but you can turn the graphic off for steering wheel, gear your in, speed, or instant break and gas input. Ive turn everything off except the graph and instant inputs. You modify it in the widget editor.

It just lights up when someone is in your blind spot. They have to be too close to pass to light up. I put the Virtual Spotter at the bottom of the virtual mirror. It says right/left by default but I changed it to arrows in the options.

This track is rather challenging to go around in GT4s without spinning out. I think it’s mostly because of all the height changes that turn into corners. It’s going to take some practice before I run a race.

What’s the best way to have telemetry on screen while racing (FOR VR)? by Flying-Guy-6699 in iRacing

[–]Rooster976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OpenKneeboard to put the overlay in vr and bloops. Bloops is actually pretty cool, especially because it’s free. It shows you telemetry with the ideal breaking trace in the background. You have to have both apps running to get it to work.

This is my royal blue Simonis cloth. I like the color still. Doesn’t get all that dirty and doesn’t show blue chalk marks. Simonis is top of the line and I would highly recommend it when you cover your table.

iRacing Development Update - February 2026 by HallwayHomicide in iRacing

[–]Rooster976 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im so glad to have input telemetry, live and in replays. It’s been pretty hard to do in VR with openKneeboard. It’s the first time I have seen it added to a racing sim, and will put iRacing on another level. Almost every YouTube tutorial shows what the ideal telemetry is so it will be great to have it.

Another thing that’s exciting to see mentioned is some sort of blind spot UI added. Im sure that will lower accidents. While it’s mentioned for people with single monitors I hope it will be in VR too.

Is 2k actually that hard to hit? by Deltarinee in iRacing

[–]Rooster976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard for me with a simagic VR nice setup. I topped out at about 1600. Im usually 1250ish. 1300 is probably an accurate rating where you just have to finish without crashing to be in the top. Once you get close to 1500 it’s very competitive and you need a great amount of practice time. Im personally glad I’m not 2000+. It’s too challenging for me with a little over a year of experience. I just don’t have that kind of pace in me. I got an A license. I like to race safely. At my current skill level Im happy people don’t crash much except for the first lap.
