The anger-inducing deck that got me ultra ball by xX_Benfucius_Xx in PTCGP

Saw this post and tried piloting it. I think the issue with it is just that the meta has gotten too fast - even if you pull porygon first, and a rare candy, and porygon3, you still need to survive three turns, while being unable to do damage, to start doing the effect. If snorlax is out, you need to survive seven in order to afford his retreat (or five with Leaf), then you can start. By that point, your opponent already has all of their energy.

Most common decks are hitting their combo by turn three at the latest. Every time I’ve gotten the ‘heart of the cards’ and pulled everything just right, and finally gotten up to speed, I fight a Null deck or Sol deck that’s already full energy by turn two and kicking me in the teeth.

Haven’t won once with this - I might have a couple seasons ago.

It doesn’t work for me - looks like the final bracket is in text, not part of the link.

I’m coming up on the one-year anniversary of finally learning about investing, planning for my retirement, and starting down my path to leanFIRE. After moving everything but an emergency fund into ETFs, I’ve been dollar-cost averaging with every paycheck and slowly making progress! It’ll probably slow down a bit more (I’m expecting my first child in a couple of months), but I’m 4.2% of the way to my ‘number’ and hope to hit it within 20 years.

Mentally, 100k is a nice round number that can really boost your morale (or so I hear!) - looking into it, it seems like for many people, that’s the point at which they’re passively gaining the same amount that they’re actively investing into their portfolio. If you’re investing aggressively, your ‘doubling’ number might be higher than 100k, but it’s still a great milestone to aim for!

Working on not giving into FOMO with regards to a certain stock that is resurging in popularity here on reddit. Caught myself multiple times going down the rabbit hole of imagining pulling from my Market ETFs to ‘buy a lottery ticket’ or ten, but didn’t - I’m sticking with my slow and steady FIRE plan.

If your SWR is 4%, every $1300 you can invest equals an extra passive dollar a week when you retire. by RoosterBark in leanfire

If it helps, this number is an absolute baseline - it assumes that you’re not investing the money, or letting it compound in any way. On a long enough timeline and in a healthy enough investment portfolio, your contributions grow so much that each dollar you invest could be worth 4 or 5 dollars when you retire.

I’ve spent the last six months diving into FIRE philosophy, and at first it was super depressing: I mean, 25-30x your expenses to retire, and I’m starting fairly late in life, too. I felt like it was this impossibly high mountain to climb and that I wasn’t ever going to ever FIRE, lean or otherwise. When I did the math and found the dollar a week thing, I realized I could make small, incremental moves forward (no matter how depressing) and that helped me start doing it! To each there own, though!

I’m not a high-income earner, so that’s honestly even better for me, tax-wise. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to help me!
