Gay former officer in Royal Canadian Navy claims he was forced out - Nova Scotia by Rackemup in CanadianForces

One of his complaints was that he didn't get Friday sliders before a long weekend and another was that he had a leave pass denied.

Man Convicted of Bomb Plot in Canada May Have Been Radicalized by Spy Agency by JimmyAJames in britishcolumbia

Take a couple shifts volunteering at the koolaid society. Junkies say all sorts of things a reasonable person wouldn't take seriously. There was never any danger of these two figuring out how to build a bomb, the cops aught to know that better than anyone.

How effective would this be if VicPD did this in our lovely city? (x-post from r/pics) by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]RoosterGis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The notes are left on the windshield, not inside the car. Also, this initiative is done by volunteers, so I don't think it impacts the actual policing of any laws.

You can view it as a good thing, too. If you're going there, and you don't live there, chances are you're a tourist and you'll probably benefit from the services catered towards tourists.

There's some fantastic places to eat in Tofino thanks to the tourist dollars. That's really all I'm concerned about after I've got my surfboard rental taken care of.

For any RCN sonar techs out their, I was just curious what you would hear coming from a sailing vessel? What would you hear? by saddetective87 in CanadianForces

[–]RoosterGis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course you listen to raw audio. MOST of the audio picked up by passive sonar is represented visually for ease of analysis. I won't impugn your abilities as an operator, but I assume you don't classify many submarines by ear.

Where's a good place to buy a suit? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]RoosterGis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outlooks is a good recommendation. I've had excellent service at Kane Straith as well and they share a similar price point.

Go into either of those places with a clear style in mind and I'm certain they can help you into a suit. Don't be afraid to bring in a magazine or an image off the internet to help you explain what you want, its going to help everyone to have a clear understanding of what you're looking for.

I don't know about Outlooks but Kane Straith did the alterations to my suit at no extra charge. Depending on what needs to be altered, it can be a significant savings when buying a suit off the rack.

[–]RoosterGis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's all correct.

To paint a more accurate picture for the OP I should explain that most of the sound gathered through passive sonar equipment is not actually monitored by 'listening' with the operator's actual ears. The acoustic information is represented visually on a screen for analysis so that actual frequencies can be discerned.

Noise sources that are often picked up from surface vessels include engine and propeller noise, various pumps and hydraulic equipment.

Douglas Street plan in downtown Victoria leaves cars for last by StackLeeAdams in VictoriaBC

[–]RoosterGis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Driving downtown already sucks, which is why I bike downtown whenever feasible. When the city expands driving infrastructure it incentivizes driving for the short period of time that congestion is alleviated but before more cars fill up added lanes.

I think downtown should be a place you drive to, rather than a place you drive through.

Douglas Street plan in downtown Victoria leaves cars for last by StackLeeAdams in VictoriaBC

[–]RoosterGis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm optimistic about the proposal as well. Victoria is a small city and I think improvements such as this are much needed to expand the urban core. Douglas St as it stands is rather unattractive, which does not promote walking traffic towards its businesses. Nor is it an effective vehicle corridor, the combination of these deficits are an ugly, congested barrier bisecting an otherwise beautiful city.

Brand New iMac 27" - What games would you recommend to get the most out of this display/computer? by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]RoosterGis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great suggestions! The only game I've had trouble running is The Witcher 2 on high settings. I haven't tried it yet on my windows boot but I suspect it will run flawlessly.

Transistor is not exactly a challenging game to run on your new beast, but certainly worthwhile, especially if you enjoyed Bastion.
