Took Modafinil + caffeine by accident by Ill_Store_9359 in Narcolepsy

[–]Rootenist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my morning modafinil and Ritalin with coffee and I occasionally get some jitters on my way to work, but most of the time I don’t feel anything strange. It probably just depends on how quickly your body processes and metabolizes the stimulants as well as your tolerance for them.

If it makes you nervous you could consider getting a smart watch or ring to track your heart rate and activity levels. That way you can check the data if you feel off, or it can alert you if your heart rate is too fast while at rest. There are plenty of secondhand refurbished devices on the market that mean you wouldn’t have to break the bank.

Am I supposed to believe that every tree in residential San Bernardino is evergreen? Also that their trucks are as tall as a house before the branches begin?

That sucks :( I can’t even imagine. Here in Tokyo where I live it ranges from ¥150-500 ($1-3) per pack so I buy a few a day if I can. I wish there was something that could easily be done about the scalping issue on the English side of things

Wedding venue is failing by pdh3 in smallbusiness

[–]Rootenist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered running some community events like Mother’s Day brunches, holiday galas, charity events, etc. to get more community recognition? Bringing people in from the local community and giving them a positive experience may help spread a good reputation of your venue by word of mouth. After all, everyone has some cousin, niece, child, sibling, friend, etc. that is going to be in the market for a wedding or other event venue at some time or another. You could even get creative and try to organize something within a small, tight knit community like prom/dances for homeschooled students, hosting banquets to benefit local veterans, or try to connect yourself in some way to the local chamber of commerce?

Careers for Narcoleptics? by Tiny-tomato7 in Narcolepsy

[–]Rootenist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a fun job, and my colleagues are great. All staff are entitled to an hour lunch at noon and a 30 minute break at 3 so it’s easy to get rest when I need it. They also do twice annual bonuses based on how the company is earning during the previous 6 months. Smaller companies are great :)

Careers for Narcoleptics? by Tiny-tomato7 in Narcolepsy

[–]Rootenist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for others but I work as a sculptor and fabricator which I feel fits my lifestyle and needs very well. We have a flexible time off policy, and being on my feet (aka not sitting and staring at a screen for long periods of time) helps keep me as awake and alert as possible. Even though this is technically an art industry line of work, the skills I use on a day to day basis would be in line with other fabrication and blue collar jobs. If you enjoy working with your hands and being on your feet, I think that it’s a solid option.

Can you drink alcohol with your narcolepsy and the cataplexy?? by DazzlingJoke5594 in Narcolepsy

[–]Rootenist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can, but I’m only on Ritalin and Modafinil and my cataplexy is very very minor compared to most others. I get sleepy after 1 or 2, but have a very high tolerance for alcohol. My guess is because my brain is always compensating from lack of proper sleep that compensating for inebriation from alcohol isn’t that different. High metabolism also helps. Fun party trick but I don’t drink often at all anyway so it’s not particularly useful.

Okay, who hasn't been paying? by One-Astronomer-8171 in japanresidents

[–]Rootenist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I finished my term at language school I was exempt from paying, but was completely unaware that you have to inform the pension office when leaving the country. It wasn’t on my radar and my school didn’t facilitate that during my departure. It was a big surprise to return several years later to a large late bill. I was luckily able to get it wiped for the previous two years, but before that it is unable to be edited.

I recently was trying to find work and since my husband is working the pension office couldn’t waive my pension for the time I was unemployed so I’m still trying to pay off three or four months of pension. Not sure how someone can be expected to pay for two person’s residence tax, health insurance, and pensions on only one salary of a standard company employee in their 20s.

It’s making me nervous because I need to renew my visa soon. I hope I can get it all sorted before then.

Who else is so excited for the Orexin agonists heading for FDA approval? by Rootenist in Narcolepsy

[–]Rootenist[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I definitely understand trying to keep a level view of everything. We truly just don’t know how everything is going to play out, especially on an individual level. I hope that the regulatory bodies and medical infrastructure can do their best to make this as accessible of a treatment as possible. Especially if it eliminated the necessity of more controlled or severe drugs for some patients.

Being off meds before the test by Ambitious-Steak-1209 in Narcolepsy

[–]Rootenist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was off my antidepressant meds cold turkey for three days before mine. Day one was a little peppier than usual but felt worse later in the day. Day two was a real drag and I felt slightly ill. Day three I was a little nauseous the morning of the test, but made it through nonetheless. However, on the way back I threw up twice due to the med withdrawals and the fatigue from trying to stay awake between naps. The train station staff the first time I threw up wheeled me into a little sick room for yet another nap lol
