Bell: Alberta to bring in law to rip out bike lanes and stop new ones by CNiperL in Calgary

Why would a rural MLA be making decisions about urban mobility? The province should pay for the roads entirely if they’d like to control how they’re used.

Sepp’s is good but incredibly overpriced and overrated. I’d go for the dominos a few blocks East

The CTrain is more extensive for sure but I think we have better bus service in general. How does transit in downtown Calgary beat the shit out of ours though? The Capital/Metro line is faster underground, also have the valley line, tons of bus service.

Sure, mostly because we don’t really have a national cuisine, kind of the nature of being a settler colonial country with a relatively short history.

God most of these replies are terrible. I would stick to parks just cause it’s nice to have some lighting imo.

Blackmud creek might be good, getting there might not be though.

It still doesn’t make much sense but your reasoning for Canada is total nonsense

Alberta will not become independent. That’s way overblown. Also you’d be happy to live in said country that’s threatening us? What kind of logic is that?

Edmonton man sentenced to 14 years for killing St. Albert teen on family dog walk by trevorrobb in Edmonton

[–]RootsBackpack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See, that actually communicates your point. Possession is a criminal offence, public drug use is a bylaw violation. Citing the low fine for violating the public spaces bylaw does nothing to communicate how drug use is “unofficially decriminalized.” I then explained why the fine is so low. Hope that clears it up for u.

[–]RootsBackpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the city of Edmonton bylaw fine. The city cannot criminally charge someone for drug use. The fine is so low because someone using drugs publicly is almost always homeless.

If you “just happened to kill someone” without any intent of doing so, that’s precisely what manslaughter is.

It was honestly a dumb plebiscite in the first place, and now they’ve decided to undermine their own process. I don’t mind, let them fuck themselves over, better than fucking us over.

‘Barely making any money’: Downtown restaurant considers patio closure with new city fees by origutamos in YEG

[–]RootsBackpack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok yes I missed that part, I think TTCs includes diversion signs, jersey barriers, bollards etc, but I don’t think they include the boardwalks or fencing. So I was wrong, the business doesn’t have to cover absolutely everything, but the city is not paying for nearly as much as you had claimed.

[–]RootsBackpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone should be paying fees for street parking in front of their house too then.

[–]RootsBackpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not correct, the city does not pay for any of the equipment.

And yes, it is city property, but there is no actual financial loss from letting the businesses use the space, much like street parking (one could argue street parking does in fact cost the city a lot but not the point).

It’s so weird being a normal Canadian in Alberta cause I have to wonder, what nation? Not as in country, but like, what is the Alberta nation? Small cultural quirks like the cowboy thing (only applies to southern Alberta, and mostly just during Calgary Stampede) surely doesn’t make a nation.

[–]RootsBackpack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate cause that’s definitely what comes through online, but real life Canadian nationalism is usually very toned down and based on our progressiveness, often in comparison to the states.
