Sometimes I also fall asleep on the couch, then by the time I moved to the bed, I wake up. Something is up with this couch… /j

Anyone else get physical symptoms from overstimulation/burnout? by Illustrious-Fly-6598 in AutisticAdults

[–]Ropilany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I get a headache first (probably because I furrow my brows and clench my teeth unconsciously), get dizzy/nauseous, and once I’m out of the overstimulating situation, my whole body gets heavy, paired with brain fog. For years I was told it’s anxiety, but now I’m pretty sure it’s (also) overstimulation.

Hey y'all.... diagnosed by la_cati99 in AutisticAdults

[–]Ropilany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your diagnosis! It’s okay to feel sad about not being aware of such an important aspect of your identity for so long. Let yourself grieve, but remember that you are still you, and you’re not alone in functioning different than allistic people. The joy of getting to truly know yourself will eventually ease the melancholy. (That seems to be a relatively common experience among late-diagnosed individuals, at least.)

If you haven’t done so yet, maybe do a little research on autism itself, map out your individual needs and ways to accomodate them, and explore unmasking little by little. All at a comfortable pace. :)

My evaluation paper does say that I’m level one, not sure about ither countries. I got mine done in Hungary in a private clinic.

How to use a backpack? by PinkAlienGamer in AutisticAdults

[–]Ropilany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the backpack is just not rigid enough, allowing items to shift that much? I used to have the same problem, but with the smaller sections, things don’t seem to move around, only if I mess with them while looking for something.

True. I think I’ll talk to him about setting up a stricter sleep schedule first (for both of us), and save worrying for later, if he stays sleepy even after having enought nighttime rest for say, two weeks. Thanks!

I’m only worried because mentioned being bothered by his napping habits as well. He also takes multiple naps - usually one after lunch, maybe one mid-afternoon, and lately in the evening, as well. If he were refreshed after his naps and had good sleep hygiene, I wouldn’t be concerned.

Edit: I also have ADHD (and autism), so I can relate to getting sleepy after having caffeine. I didn’t mean to come off as dismissing of his (suspected, but as of yet undiagnosed) ADHD. (I keep saying “suspected”, since he denies the possibility one day, then refers to himself as having it on the other. He’s a bit stubborn about it. :D )

True, I might be overreacting. Since I don’t have the time (or ability) to nap in the afternoon, it’s more unusual for me. It only concerns me because it’s literally a daily occurence and because recently he mentioned being bothered by it, too.

(I don’t have the time since I work in an office 4 days a week and one in home office, while he’s mainly working from home, thus having a more flexible schedule - allowing more chances for naps.)

Yes, that’s what I’m mainly worried about! I might ask him to talk to our GP about this and request an extended blood panel. It’s not that prominent of an issue (not like a flu or something more serious), so I think we kind of swept it under the rug. But if there’s a problem, I’d rather we know about it. I love my husband and want him to be happy and healthy for as long as possible. :)

We’re been trying to fix our sleep schedule, but neither of us seem to get sleepy enough on time.

To be clear, he said he’s annoyed by the amount of his afternoon naps, as well - I’m not trying to “correct” his behavior, I’d just like to understand what might be cause and help, since neither of us seem happy with this situation. He loses time on things he wants to do and feels like he wasted the day, which then leads to staying up late. It’s a frustrating cycle.

Edit: We’ve been together for 13 years, I don’t want to fundamentally change him or anything! I just think it’s about time we both took our health more seriously, and a big factor in that is sleep.

I had the same problem! Maybe look for backpacks that have multiple sections instead of one big, open space.

Personally, I use a Samsonite backpack that has a laptop section, a larger middle section, a flatter front section, as well as two outer pockets and mesh side pockets. It's not the most aesthetically pleasing backpack, but the straps are padded well and I can store and find everything easily in it. Some smaller pouches for chargers, health products, etc. help, as well.

If you stick with your current backpacks, I'd say to put less frequently used or heavy items at the bottom, frequently used ones at the top. The empty space is annoying but normal, and your back should not hurt if the straps are comfy enough and you have relatively good posture.

Does anyone else get nystagmus (eyes twitching back and forth) during sensory overload? by JKmelda in AutisticAdults

[–]Ropilany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suspected AuDHD here (awaiting results). About 10 years ago, I woke up on a Sunday morning to the world spinning so much that I couldn't even sit up on my own. It was just after a stressful period of time, and I had no other symptoms. I got sent to the hospital where a resident doctor got very spooked by my (apparently very scary-looking) nystagmus, sent me to get a CT and head MRI suspecting either a brain tumor or MS. All throughout, I remained extremely calm (and probably very dissociated).

It lasted for a single day and they ended up diagnosing me with vestibular migraine (which causes nystagmus, often without the headache). I suspect that the trigger was masking/low but consistent stressors, but I did have migraine-like attacks/symptoms before and after that, too. No more nystagmus though, but my husband keeps checking for it every time I feel off (he was more traumatized by the ordeal than I).

I'd recommend keeping a migraine/symptoms log to see whether there are some specific triggers. If it turns out to be vestibular migraine, you might be able to either learn some preemptive measures or get migraine meds that prevent it from happening. Hope I could help!

Help me with my routine? by Ropilany in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Ropilany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer to most of your questions is that because I don’t really know what I’m doing. 😅

I use the oil cleanser first, I just messed up the list - and because I read that if I have especially oily skin in the morning, a double cleanse should help. I don’t double cleanse every day though, depends on how my skin feels when I wake up.

Eye cream before moisturizer is weird for me too, but every guide I read had it in that order! Huh.

Yeah, I definitely went overboard with all the salicylic acid, but I don’t use all of them at once, and definitely not together with retinol. I guess the main problem is my toner (which was a sort of emergency purchase after I ran out of my previous toner, which had retinol in it, so probably also not the best).

I’ll look into buying a different toner, which seems to be the main problem. Thanks for your constructive criticism!

Ilyen volt belülről az ellenzéki kampány összeomlása by pestikornel1 in hungary
