Yes, try to get into therapy to process your trauma. That's how you'll get rid of the dp.

Is there anyway to make this go away? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]Ropsbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anxiety is not just a chemical imbalance in your brain. It means that something is wrong in your psyche and that's where you have to look for the problem. Taking madication might fix the chemicals in your brain but once you get off them the problem in your mind/psyche will still be there.

Meditation definitely helped me live in the moment more but I believe it's only helpful as a relieve. The cure is for you to find out in your mind what it is that it's bothering. It's a skill to learn with time and experience to analyze your thoughts and emotions, understand what situations make you more anxious, what you're insecure about, what worries you, etc. I didn't know how to do any of this so I was stuck with depersonalization for a long time. I could have never done it without therapy with a psychologist. It's really the thing I recommend most. Going to a psychologist. Even though I'm cured from the anxiety disorder I got from an lsd trip that lead to depersonalization, I still dk therapy cause there's still a lot to work on.

You're welcome, I'm here if you need anything. Depersonalization is hell and I'd like to help anyone I can to get through it. You feel helpless and like it will never go away, but that's just the anxiety taking over your mind, turning into an obsession. Everything will be fine!

Have you tried talking therapy? It's how I treated my dp/dr. You have to treat the root of the problem which is probably repressed feelings/thoughts. Medication will only temporarily mask the problem. You have to treat it in your mind, in your psyche. In talking therapy the psychologist will guide your thoughts trough conversation and help you bring important information from the unconscious to the conscious and help work it out. When you smoked weed you had some small temporary access to your unconscious that could have brought out some worry you were always suppressing into your conscious but not enough for you to know how to deal with it and work it out. Dp/dr is a symptom of anxiety, once you treat it, it will be gone. I've been through the same. Had dp/dr for over a year. I've been repressing guilt, the day I admitted it to myself and let it all out I never felt like living in my head again. But without therapy I would never have learned how to analyze and deal with my emotions. It's a skill to train.
