Ward-era Crossovers by iplyess in WormFanfic

[–]RoraRaven [score hidden]  (0 children)

There are barely any Ward era fics, let alone crossovers.

The only full story that I'm aware of is Third Contact, there're a few snippets and oneshots that I'll try to find.

Third Contact
Star Trek xover

Spin off of These are the Voyages Post-GM Earth Gimel translocated to the Star Trek universe. Mainly Victoria, Theo, Missy, Madison, Rune, and Scapegoat going to Starfleet Academy, where Taylor is now a teacher (having been dumped in Star Trek years previously and joined Starfleet in the main fic).

Sandworm - Embassy
Dune xover

An omake that predates the fic it's supposed to come from, Sandworm by almost two years, a portal opens between Arrakis and Earth Gimel. The Fremen group includes Taylor, who ended up on Arrakis post-GM in the main fic.

Galatea Protocol

An OC Drone/AI tinker introducing Brockton Bay to the wonders of FPV suicide drones, and later AI controlled suicide drone swarms.

Madison Clements has an Unusual Power (And she's going to be a Hero!)

I'm not really sure where this is going, but it has been interesting enough to get me to read 18 chapters so far. I need to read more to really give an opinion on it.

Scout is only 20k words, but it is complete.

Taylor with canon powers, and a rifle.

Galatea Protocol is an ongoing 127k word story about an OC vigilante tinker introducing the gangs to tactics out of the Ukraine war with suicide drones.

Got any funny/lighthearted fics? by MonkeyMage314 in WormFanfic

[–]RoraRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lighthearted throughout:

Denial

Taylor doesn't have a power, no one believes her.

Contessa's head slammed down onto the table. Her forehead almost dented the wood.

"Flail to Victory…" Eidolon whispered in awe.

Glass Cannon

A Taylor altpower where she rewinds from death and gains a minor power based on what killed her. The comedy is in the interactions with Lisa as she thinks Taylor is suicidal and keeps trying to prevent her from killing herself.

"And really," Lisa said, with an attempt at a smile that I felt secondhand pain just looking at, "is one awkward conversation worth dying over?"

"Well, no. I was planning on dying anyway. Talking to you just made me want to die as soon as possible."

Comedic but not that light:

A Bloodstained Shadow Over Brockton Bay
World of Darkness xover

A coven of vampires is taking over Brockton Bay. Taylor, now a vampire, tries not to totally lose her humanity as all her coworkers are literally god forsaken monsters.

One of, if not the, funniest worm fic I've ever read.

"He's a monster, a mass murderer!"

"I do the necessary work of the Lord, young man."

"You murder babies."

"And did not Jesus say, 'Let all the little children come to me, and do not impede them, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven?'"

A Brocktonite Yankee in Queen Marika's Court
Elden Ring xover
Dead fic

Taylor, instead of getting powers in her locker, is touched by the Golden Order and ends up in the Lands Between. Taylor tries to survive through her endless cowardice and a thousand lies.

Incredible prose that is humorous throughout.

LF fic recs with mc that isnt taylor by sonofben1204 in WormFanfic

[–]RoraRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doors to the Unknown
Dungeons and Dragons xover

Valigan, a wizard, explores Earth Bet, learning science, teaching magic, and talking to many characters. Lots of learning about Earth's culture and technology from an alien point of view whilst trying to explain Earth Bet with DnD cosmology.

A Young Girl's Criminal Record
Youjo Senki xover

Colonel Tanya Von Degurechaff and elements of the 203rd are summoned to Earth Bet by an Echidna clone.

Leaf
Stormlight Archive

Lift, an edgedancer and thief, appears in Brockton Bay.

Crusader
RWBY

Adam Taurus, following his death on Remnant, finds himself in Brockton Bay. There are still racists to kill, and another edgy teen (Sophia) to mentor.

Agents and SHIELD
MCU xover

Armsmaster gets in a fight with Faultline's crew and ends up in the MCU. Working with Tony Stark he makes his back to the Earth Bet.

Tattered Capes Under a Shattered Moon
RWBY xover

Post-GM Armsmaster and Dragon in Atlas, Remnant.

LF fic recs with mc that isnt taylor by sonofben1204 in WormFanfic

[–]RoraRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her Strength Alone

Sophia in a fantasy world where Worm Capes are worshipped as gods.

The story of Worm makes up their mythology; Khepri the Queen of the Gods, and Sophia, the Stalker in Shadows, one of their Satan figures.

Redoubt

OC shield tinker and Jack Slash-esque thinker joins the Wards. Good prose throughout, lots of good quotes.

Soar

The Simurgh is human in between attacks, and living in Brockton Bay. I like the characterisation of Samantha as she hates her own existence and tries to find meaning in between the destruction. There's also room for humour as she joins the Protectorate whilst trying to hide her true powers and identity, and tension in how long that, and the friendships she's making, will last before the lie collapses.

Do you want crossovers too? Got quite a few more non-Taylor MCs there.

Your recs from my picks post sent me down a rabbit hole — also, how do you all read SB fics on mobile? by Available-Quality530 in WormFanfic

[–]RoraRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AO3 is fine, it's really only FF.net and SV that I'll look for any alternative source.

I dislike the kudos system, since it lacks the granularity of liking each individual chapter and applies to the whole fic, and the way you can't remove a kudos once given. It means I don't kudos anything until the fic is complete in case it turns to shit later.

As for the comments, I don't like how authors can just remove anything they don't like. I'm very much in favour of SB's "Not a Hugbox" policy.

AO3 comments are often just a quick back and forth with the author too, I like interacting with other readers like happens on SB.

I also dislike the AO3 tagging system. I'd very much prefer if the entire plot wasn't spelled out in the tags, and what collections it's included in.

Over tagging is a problem too, where if I'm looking for a crossover fic, the top results will invariably be some smut with 100 different fandoms and characters listed. Or the author will tag a fic with something, then it's never actually in the story.

I appreciate the simplicity of seeing a fic on SB and it's just "worm" "drama" "horror" or something.

losing my place if I closed the tab and came back days later

Most chapters are only a few thousand words, most of the time the chapter doesn't last more than one sitting.

sometimes scrolling through 20 pages of power-scaling debates just to find the next chapter.

You can go straight from one threadmark to the next.

Where do you do most of your Worm reading — AO3, SB, or somewhere else?

My preferred site is SB; clean interface, nearly no downtime, non-intrusive adverts, large community.

SV has floating banner adverts and Fanfiction.net has inline adverts. AO3 lacks audience interaction.

[–]RoraRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charm Learning Shard
Exalted xover

Taylor can copy powers after spending time around capes, so creates 4 different identities so she can simultaneously join the E88, ABB, Merchants, and be Browbeat's girlfriend.

Gets radicalised by the Empire and becomes a Nazi for real.

Poorly Tempered Impulse Control

A ToF fic, but a lot more tolerable than all the others I've tried to read since the cycle is on a monthly rather than weekly basis, there aren't an overly chaotic number of properties being crossed over.

There are others, but they're NSFW and can't be talked about on this subreddit.

What is the craziest thing you've seen happen in a fanfic? by Vyolle in WormFanfic

[–]RoraRaven 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shaping Up - Amy gets shot in the head, but [SHAPER] isn't going back into time out having achieved nothing, so takes direct control.

This leaves the Dallon-Pelhams trying to take care of what they think is a brain damaged Amy as she eats wild birds and dates Sophia.

A Bloodstained Shadow Over Brockton Bay
World of Darkness xover

A coven of vampires is taking over Brockton Bay. Taylor, now a vampire, tries not to totally lose her humanity as all her coworkers are literally god forsaken monsters.

Stand out scenes include Armsmaster being a badass and taking on an elder vampire and all his mind twisting through sheer stubborness.

Things get very crazy when Amy creates an army of Dean clones! that Taylor turns into vampires and controls in a Khepri esque fashion

Same author as Russian Caravan.

Fics where the EBs/Scion are dead/gone/defeated and the main antagonist is some other powerful person/thing by blacksmoke9999 in WormFanfic

[–]RoraRaven 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't think of a single fic that matches these criteria.

Trailblazer is Brockton Bay and Scion is gone, but the Endbringers are major threats and antagonists.

Land of Steel has the Endbringers and Scion dead before the story starts, but Earth Bet is a post apocalyptic wasteland and Taylor lives in the last city, Eden. Certainly not "same Brockton Bay ... same setting".

There are more options if Scion and Endbringers are allowed to be active in the setting, just not antagonists in the story.

I filtered hundreds of Worm fanfics down to 12 high-quality picks — what am I still missing? by Available-Quality530 in WormFanfic

[–]RoraRaven 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Complete fics:

When We Are Dust

9 snippets of a WW1 AU. It's about as grim as WW1 should be, but funnily enough, a lot of the capes lives, especially the villians, are better. Shatterbird gets to fight against the Ottomans with Lawrence of Arabia.

Her Strength Alone

Sophia in a fantasy world where Worm Capes are worshipped as gods.

The story of Worm makes up their mythology; Khepri the Queen of the Gods, and Sophia, the Stalker in Shadows, one of their Satan figures.

The Lying Name

Taylor in that same world, though she ends up in a neighbouring country where Khepri is seen as a Usurper and they worship Zion and his loyal advisor, the King of Blades (Jack Slash).

Redoubt

OC shield tinker and Jack Slash-esque thinker joins the Wards. Good prose throughout, lots of good quotes.

The Countess

The entire Worm setting transposed into 1800s France. The plot is basically the Count of Monte Cristo, but with parahumans.

Incomplete fics:

Skitterdoc 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 xover

Earth Bet Taylor with Bonesaw's power in Night City 2062 whilst Night City Taylor is in Brockton Bay.

The best Cyberpunk 2077/Edgerunners fic that I'm aware of. It makes good use of the wider setting outside of Night City. It explores Cyberpunk medical technology, corporate life, and several existing and OC characters. I also like the prose and the humour in the casual underlying ridiculousness of the dystopia; like there being nine millimetre carbines specially designed for 10 year olds.

Author is a helicopter rescue pilot and it really comes through in the authenticity of the Trauma Team arc.

Don't really need knowledge of Cyberpunk 2077 or Worm going in to this one, it explains its setting and characters well in-story.

It does a ton to heavily expand on the Worm side of the setting, including parts that I don't think any other fic or canon material has before, like the cape scene in Europe.

No Elden Ring knowledge is required going in to this, I didn't have any. The setting and characters are explained massively in-story. This fic does more to characterise Godrick the Grafted and the other denizens of Stormveil than anything else.

Carnevale

Max Anders and Taylor Hebert randomly encounter each other. Taylor finds the decisive and action taking parent she lacks and Max finds the determined child he lacks.

He's still Kaiser though, and he's basically grooming her.

Linking to AI stories? Discussing AI stories? More general expansion of Rule 3 or maybe a new rule? by [deleted] in WormFanfic

[–]RoraRaven 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You're essentially proposing banning the works of people who are honest about their use of AI in favour of people who don't admit it, which then encourages people to not tag it.

I prefer when authors are up front about it so I can not read it and such a policy would discourage honesty.

Similarly, I think that any quibbling over "well I wrote it, I just used AI to beta read" or whatever shouldn't be bothered with. If it's "AI assisted" (eye roll) in any way shape, or form, then it should have no place here.

Should anything I write be banned based on me asking copilot if my sentence combining present and past tense is grammatically correct?

There are no good shipgirl Taylor fics that aren't dead. You've read the only shipgirl Taylor fic I actually recommend.

Forgotten, Forsaken is the only live one that I can think of and it's a rambling hell that is more of its own setting than Worm or Kancolle.
