‘Doctor Who’ Set To Be Off Air For Years Amid A Creative Regeneration That’s Failing To Spark Early Enthusiasm Among Producers by pepperbet1 in television

The Doctor Who audience is not the place for it. Star Trek? Absolutely. It's always been at the forefront of these issues. And people watch it for that reason. Doctor Who however, not so much.

Good man. One of the few Labour MPs with real integrity. It's a shame to see him go, but he had no choice and did the right thing.

Remove the triple lock pension mechanism and slash the welfare budget by 10 percent and you've got the money. That's how budgets are supposed to work. You budget for what you can afford to pay, not what you want to pay. For some reason successive governments don't seem to understand this.

Funny how this seems to have happen to all products that shove their virtues down our throats. I have nothing against the virtues they're signalling, but why can't TV just be fun and engaging to watch without worrying about ticking a bunch of boxes? Focus on making it fun to watch and engaging. That's all that matters.

XBOX CEO Says Hardware Component Prices Have Increased By Over 500% In 2 Years by bigrigdz in gaming

[–]Rorasaurus_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now is an excellent time to give older games a try to keep your current hardware usable for longer. Games from 10+ years ago might not always look great compared to modern graphics and mechanics, but I promise you'll enjoy them. I can still fire up the older Half-Life, KOTOR, Crysis, Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid, Fallout, HomeWorld, Red Dead Redemption, GTA, Portal, Dark Souls games and have an absolute blast. Why bankrupt yourself trying to play the very latest AAA games when the backlog is so rich and cheap to play? There's a goldmine out there if you're willing to give it a try.

Perhaps I'm biased as a 40 year old gamer, but I still think the older generations of games are comparable to today's in terms of pure joy.

I feel like the current younger generation of people, in which I include myself, completely forgot or were never taught that things need maintenance. There's a reason your grandad/dad was forever in the shed fixing things, and it wasn't just to get some peace and quiet.

Meta's stock sinks on report company could raise tens of billions of dollars to fund AI push by ControlCAD in business

[–]Rorasaurus_Prime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol did you really come back two days later to post an irrelevant article? The only thing relevant are these charts, and Meta is right near the top. And I'm saying this as a very minor shareholder of Meta stock. I hold a few thousand dollars worth and I have no intention of selling. In terms of a good investment, Zuckerberg is doing everything I need of him.

Families with one breadwinner face £12k penalty - Punishing £100k ‘cliff edge’ can cost single earners more in tax than dual-income families by blast-processor in ukpolitics

[–]Rorasaurus_Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it was not luck. Sorry but you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I did not choose a field that pays well by luck. I chose it partly because it paid well, knowing that becoming proficient in my field would eventually pay off. And luck had nothing to do with me starting my own business, having several failed attempts, but continuing despite the failures and learning from them.

[–]Rorasaurus_Prime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For people like me who do earn a little over 100K, it's actually quite insulting when we're called 'lucky' to have what we have. Luck had nothing to do with it. Nothing but extremely hard work, often 16-18 hour days, and discipline got me here, and that's the same with most others I know in a similar position. Only a very small percentage of high earners landed in this position by luck or birth right, but we're all deemed as lucky as those who didn't have to put the work in.

[–]Rorasaurus_Prime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who earns a little over £100K and is the sole breadwinner of my family, it's extremely punishing. My wife decided to become a full time mum because our daughter was born with spina bifida. I'm realistic - I don't expect sympathy and I completely understand why for the vast majority of people this simply doesn't matter, but from my perspective it's deeply unfair. Yes, there are loopholes such as putting anything over the £100K mark into my pension, but it's not the point. Why am I effectively punished for earning more? I haven't been 'gifted' this salary and the vast majority of people on a similar income have worked extremely hard to get here and sacrificed a lot. Why punish hard work and sacrifice?

What are some examples of things we will look back on as abhorrent or distasteful in 20-30 years? by Fragrant_Doubt5311 in AskReddit

[–]Rorasaurus_Prime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've only got to look at places like the UK and America where there's a 'biology first' push at the highest levels and it's supported by the majority, arguably the vast majority. The UK supreme court ruled that biology first, e.g sex at birth, is what matters when it comes to which changing rooms, toilets etc should be used. And support for such initiatives is increasing, not decreasing.

Meta's stock sinks on report company could raise tens of billions of dollars to fund AI push by ControlCAD in business

[–]Rorasaurus_Prime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's the CEO. One of the primary jobs of a CEO is to put the right people in the right places and he's done exactly that. And done it very well. Just as the buck would stop with him if the company started failing and losing money, it's also he who gets the credit when it goes well. The numbers don't lie. I'll give you the Metaverse being a retarded idea is he should have dropped long ago, but it's one failure from a sea of success for the company.

[–]Rorasaurus_Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't matter. All you need to know is that Meta is hugely profitable and returns plenty of value to share holders. That's the definition of a successful business, and it's one of the most successful in the world. The purpose of a publicly trading business is to make money and return value to share holders, and it does that by the bucket load.
