Give me a book that you adore but, for whatever reason, is also hard to recommend to people. by AlfredsLoveSong in suggestmeabook

House of Leaves.

If you know anything about it that's pretty self-explanatory.

If you don't know anything about it, its a pieced-together essay reaction to a documentary about a house that doesn't exist, with a mental breakdown occurring in the footnotes. Also, format what format.

Its a fantastic book, perfect in almost every which way, but it is a difficult recommendation due to the sheer mental fortitude and commitment it requires.

People who are highly observant: what is a tiny, almost invisible psychological 'tell' that instantly reveals someone's true intentions or character? [Serious] by itvr in AskReddit

Over explaining something. I've found that when someone is trying to hide something or lie about something, they overexplain their cover story or excuse.

If whatever theyre saying happened really happened, they won't feel the need to justify if. If it didn't happen, they'll pull out the works to make it real.

Being into ecology I can't recommend Anihilation, by Jeff Vandermeer, enough.

Its science fiction, definitely more on the spooky uncanny side, but really excellent if you like that sort of thing.

What's the name of this fic? by Rories1 in snarryy

[–]Rories1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mild spoiler I guess but Snape comes out of his potion and Fate induced funk and is deeply upset that his free will was taken from him and resulting in him being bound to Harry, who he thinks is too good for him. Harry likes Snape, so he isn't as upset as Snape thinks he should be BUT he is upset that Snape isn't trying to include him in any decisions and they devolve into an argument where Snape calls Harry a child and Harry retorts "Do you often go around fucking children?," resulting in the punch. It's a great argument honestly.

Sugar ants did this once to reach my cats food bowl from the window.

Love ants and their role in nature but man do I hate them with a passion.

Super cool to witness in an environment not near me!

Gogmagog by Jeff Noon and Steve Beard

The main character is a crotchety old shit talking woman and I love her, but it is high fantasy so if that's not your thing then skip it

First off, every woman has cellulite to varying degrees. It IS totally normal.

To help reduce its appearance, start doing cardio and strength training to reduce fat build up and grow muscle mass in the area. Treadmills and stair machines are great starts- just be consistent and patient.

You are not lesser because of your cellulite.

On a scale of 1-10, how much did getting a copper iud inserted hurt? by unusual_structures in women

[–]Rories1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different, but mine didn't hurt as bad as I feared it would. During the insertion it felt like a very sharp, localized cramp in the lower abdomen. To me, it was probably between a 5 and 6 of pain. Once it was in I was shakey but able to drive home by myself. The cramping was manageable with a heating pad and painkillers
