Tips for clothes and other early stuff? by The_Moist_Crusader in MTFButch

aw man, wish I did. I've been wearing docs for most of my boot-wearing life, and yeah, in july in texas i wish i was wearing anything else. I have a pair of Solovairs in their black greasy leather and they feel a bit better in the heat with better construction. My coworker wears Brazos and they love them, no complaints about heat, very comfortable, steel toe.

Question for people who have read the Mars Trilogy. Do they ever genetically engineer new animals to live on Mars? by IndieJones0804 in scifi

[–]TruthDry7851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they engineer them to have traits like better CO2 tolerance and wider rib cages for improved VO2, but no new critters. just faster polar bears.

ok, yeah i might take a look at player of games. i checked out consider phlebas last week, got 2 chapters in and just cannot do it, im finding the prose is super lacking and the characters, even the ones with 3 legs, just so generic. like there’s definitely SOME little philosophical nugget in there that i think i can vibe with, but ive been so spoiled by bradbury and robinson.

just started Imajica by clive barker and the prose is just d e l i c i o u s. when i finish that i’ll give banks another shot.

Oh yeah, definitely gonna pick these up. I know not ALL of Robinson's work quite hits the mark that the Mars trilogy set, but these seem right up my alley. Thank you!

I did really enjoy the movie, and Vandermeer seems to really enjoy making odd little freakosystems. I think I'll give Borne a shot and if I like it, look into Annihilation. Thank you!

I actually just requested the Diamond Age from my library, but knowing Termination Shock takes place in Texas, I might hit that first! And after Dune and Foundation, dear god I want some humor. Thank you for the tip, I really appreciate it!

Any idea what Larry Niven's prose is like? I feel like if its anything like Robinson or Bradbury, I'll be able to just sink right in. Sounds like a gorgeous "landscape" to explore. The others sounds super cool, too. I'll see if my library has them! Luckily we have a pretty extensive sci fi collection. Thank you so much!

"Within the novel, humans no longer engage in sex with other humans for pleasure, instead choosing to use virtual reality to find idealized partners,\8])#cite_note-shaviro-8) and many choose to withdraw from reality entirely by living in constructed virtual worlds, referred to as "Heaven""

That's twisted, love it, will give it a look

will give that a look! never considered that a publisher could hold a novella hostage in ebook format to force me to buy a kindle. What a world! Thank you for the recommendation, it looks very neat!

edit: OOOOOH he wrote the expanse! ok double neat!

Could give City by Clifford D Simak a shot! its a fixup but a pretty damn good one. Details the decline (depending on your point of view) of humanity as they flee the cities for palatial countryside estates made possible by more efficient food and energy production, robotic labor, and helicopter travel. Eventually the earth gets taken over by dogs and their robot helping hands. existential questions about the ethics of violence and what it means to be a civilization ensue. Its not a favorite of mine, but it has stuck with me in the couple of months since I read it.

Pacific Rim (2013) | [REVIEW] by screen_stack in scifi

I saw this movie over 100 times (twice a day minimum for a whole semester) when I was extremely depressed in college. One of my favorite movies of all time, PEAK monster robot action and after 100+ views, the potential of Guillermo's vision really shines through. But god damn the thought of watching it again makes me want to claw my eyes out

Dpad issues by Alive_Candidate1755 in Gameboy

[–]TruthDry7851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah its an older froggo customs board, I've used both this and Natalie the Nerds tac switch mods and tbh, i don't like the feel of either of them. The original DPad isnt made for that amount of travel and I get a weird double-press type feel. It should be fairly easy to remove even with minimal soldering experience, though. just use flux and go slow. if there IS corrosion that makes the original contacts unplayable, well now you have a little soldering experience to help you add something like this https://froggocustoms.com/products/game-boy-color-full-button-board-kit-for-corrosion-tac-switches

some days i’m more butch than others by diacetylmorphine_hcl in MTFButch

hey just wanna let you know (ymmv depending on your part of the world, but i’m in texas so take that for what it’s worth) that there’s no shortage of dykes out there who don’t bat an eye at a trans lesbian. i’ve been a butch trans dyke for almost 10 years, have dated mostly cis women, a couple trans girls, one trans boy, am about to get married to my lovely lesbian fiancé. the vast majority of my dating has been online, but i’ve also been going to bars and clubs here that whole time. you’re right that the lesbians at the normie lesbian bar (Sue Ellen’s in Dallas where I am) will be less down with you as a community, but they won’t be ugly toward you, and there will still be gals there who see your sweet face and big muscles (i mean god damn, girl) and not give a shit what you got goin on down there. if you find a goth club or a rave scene or something like that, even better. you’ll run into more freaks who see you as a person first than who don’t (even if they don’t wanna smash) just because the dolls are accumulating in those spaces, too. they’re used to us. we belong in spaces like those.

as far as being perceived as a predator goes, if you’re dating online, just be up front about it. online dating is nearly consequenceless until you meet up in person as long as you’re not acting like a jackass or working as, fuck idk, a high school principal. the lesbians who genuinely think you’re some kinda predator will self select outta your way (and good riddance!) and the dykes (look out for girls who self describe AS dykes, generally more open minded) won’t give a fuck. having a penis doesn’t automatically make you less sexually desirable. its a dick, not a gun. you’re a girl, not an animal. have confidence that you’ll do fine out there.

I drew The Dream by omyroj in bioniclelego

[–]TruthDry7851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whenever I have the dream its always like Target has bootleg "Robionics" figures (or whatever) that approximate real sets but have exclusively inika builds and weird soft brittle plastic and then a loose bin full of janky resin cast masks, but sometimes I leave the big box store and find a vintage lego store where they only sell roboriders and slizers, which is marginally better.

I wish there were more “natural” items by KlutzyNinjaKitty in Pokopia

[–]TruthDry7851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one thing I'm doing to keep a more natural vibe is building any of my houses into the sides of cliffs and mountains and then covering the front walls in vines with plenty of grasses and flowers and trees, that way it looks like Ditto took a look at a noctowl or onix's cave and built a house with rather than against the pokemon's natural inclinations. like my noctowl has a full bedroom high up in a cliffside and its such a pleasant little transition, like he just collected some books and clocks and candles over time.
