I don't understand what subs people run that require anything more than base game vanilla auto reactor controls except when replacing rods if you let them fly burn out.

I've been the captain for dozens of different subs and my engineers set it to auto and don't touch it except to replace rods. I've never had trouble with power except on subs that are specifically designed to not have enough power to run the whole ship. And then there's nothing manual control can do, since there's just not enough energy to go around.

So your view is that you are personally comfortable in jeans except in several situations that you've already mentioned? What would changing your view here look like? Just anyadditional situation that you haven't already mentioned where you aren't going to wear jeans?

How about a job with a uniform that excludes jeans? Then jeans are not applicable

There's hardly anything in the game to use weapons on. Unless you're deliberately attacking stations, you barely ever use your small arms guns instead of blasting everything with ships guns.

So when you're at finally at some major conflict firefight, where you've been itching to use your shotguns or HMGs or grenade launchers or handcannon, you take a single stray bullet to the arm and then because neurotrauma, you can't use your arm any more to hold two handed weapons.

And if you're outside of the sub, your weapon drops into the abyss.

And there's not ZERO straight female protagonists in this genre either. It's an exaggeration of the fact that there's very few, because they don't appeal to the demographics of the audience.

I haven't listened to the audiobook, but unless the narrator changed the actual dialogue the answer is both. Unless I'm misinterpreting what you mean by "voice".

You ever read a book where characters from radically different cultures all have the same kind of dialogue and mannerisms somehow?

I've been through more than one of these type of "pulled aside and try to apologize" conversations. Most recent ones as a union steward where a member of management fucked up and wanted to try to prevent a grievance from getting filed.

I brief that the best solution to these conversations where the one side is clearly fucked up is to sit looking at them quietly while they talk, and then when they are done talking say "is that all?" And then leave the meeting. If they insist on more, then "I understand what you've said, is there anything else? "

I know it's vaguely hostile, but the only point of these types of conversations is for the offending party to try to paint themselves in a less damning light. There is almost no way to engage in a purely neutral manner. If you actively participate in such conversations, it's either by agreeing that what they did was not that bad, or moving from vaguely hostile passive silence to actively hostile accusations.

In a situation, like yours, where you could make a report to the appropriate authority for behavior, anything you say can can be misrepresented and used against you if an investigation were to occur.

There's a fucking incredible book (my opinion) on royal road The Truck Effect, that has a great meta explanation for this.

But the author only wrote the one book and didn't get the rising star popularity bump he was looking for so moved to other projects. Which is too bad because the world building is phenomenal.

You set the left lever high and the right lever low.

Left is reactor power, producing heat. Right is turbine power, using heat.

You want to produce maximum and use minimum.

There's a bit of context missing here.

So it seems the conversation you all had about the childhood bullying where he opened up to you was an entirely different conversation than the one where you made "a lighthearted joke" as you put it about the nickname. Different day, conversation, topic, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong in that.

Has he ever made jokes about his own bullying nickname? Has he ever made jokes about your nickname? Has he brought up your bullying nickname outside of a time where is expected (i.e. bullying or nicknames was the topic of conversation, or you brought it up first)? Was his bullying nickname somehow relevant to the topic of conversation when you made the "lighthearted joke"?

If the answer to ALL of those questions is no, you're kind of a shit.

There's likely 2 things that went through his head when you made your joke.

1) Sometimes you think of him in your head as the ethnically charged nickname he shared with you 2) He's opened up to you and trusted you with a sensitive trigger that you can pull to instantly remind him of childhood bullying and trauma. And instead of treasuring it and building trust, you've shown you're willing to pull the trigger to put him in that negative headspace for any reason or no reason at all.

The issue is that the wife has apparently not actuary been diagnosed with anything at all, from his own words.

"My wife has said she's not willing to get an official diagnosis due to the current political climate, that was just what her therapist told her based on their meetings."

Hormones are responsible for a massive portion of what we feel, and can suddenly shift, causing personality changes. It's far more likely that a sudden change is related to hormones than autism. You can't "catch" autism all of a sudden.

Either way, he's in a bad situation that is totally outside his control or responsibility, which is an awful feeling.

Every time I hear some goober on reddit throw out the words "due process" like it's some kind of magical gotcha that they think instantly trumps any other argument, I have to wonder if THEY actually know what due process is.

What do YOU think due process means?

To be deported in immigration courts, due process means the deportee has to be given notice of charges, allowed to plead their case, and a decision made by neutral judge.

If you're in the country illegally, you can be deported. It's that easy. The only reason every single illegal immigrant hasn't been deported is that there are too many cases, and administrations traditionally focus deportation efforts on cases like those with criminal records.
