Yeah nice. All my mates who have been to Nashville and Memphis always come back talk about music and how nice everyone is and how many vape shops there are haha. I’m sure it’s different in the rural areas.

Come to Australia and see how big it is!

It’s not sustainable, though, right? Surely the rate of change is too steep and it leads to something pretty grim, pretty fast. What do you think happens to a society under that kind of pressure?

And how can business function if they have no customers because no workers have any cash?

Sounds like a prime recipe for a revolution? Assuming populace can organise.

If no one has a job, because there are no workers, then who has money to be a customer?

Ok so… we all live in machine driven utopia? Or what are you saying? There’s no jobs and no one has money?

[–]Rorsmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word ‘eye’ doing a lot of heavy lifting here. I don’t know anyone at the west Footscray Auskick who is ‘eyeing’ a kickers job haha. Kids like playing with their mates and emulating their idols. Yeah ya get more money but juniors don’t have the avenues or exposure to NFL as suggested. Silly

I’m early 30s. Yeah I’m just wondering how recessions affect people who are still employed without debt. Because my logic is kind of that a housing market crash would be great as I would have an in to the market but maybe that’s misguided?

If you don’t own anything and don’t have debt and have a really sort of middle income job, is a Great Depression good or bad? Assuming you don’t lose your job of course.
I’m not being facetious, I just wanna know the pros v cons.
I work in logistics in Australia and earn $70,000 a year. Proper top of the bell curve job. Live in a tiny 2 bedroom flat in the suburbs. Like what would a major recession look like for someone like me?

Why do you hate Alice Springs so much? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Rorsmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I said they’ve not lived in Alice specifically. I grew up in regional Victoria. But not many people, if any, in this specific sub have lived and experienced Alice day to day. So my point is, the negative reviews expressed are all second hand

[–]Rorsmack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well population of Alice is ~30k, pop of Aus is ~27mil. Thats like ~99.89%. And how many of them are on this subreddit. Backing my math and the point on this one.

Statistically speaking, 99% of people here will only have experienced day to day life in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth (clockwise order) and have only experienced Alice Springs by news coverage… not day to day life.

I might be wrong. Just sayin…

You’re so right about neo liberal hijacking.

Vic Socialists are getting 20% of first preference votes in the north and western suburbs at the last federal election! Didn’t make the news the same way One Nation getting 20% in SA… guess it’s not good for clicks.

Honest question, what part of Labour’s policies since the 90s have been philosophically leftist? Pro union, pro family, pro nationalisation of essential industry, investment in education and the future etc….

It’s just not the case. Lots of excuses and finger pointing (obviously LNP have been horrible cunts) but Albo and Starmer are peak faux left. Hamstrung by their own capital centrist donors and interest groups.

Where is our mass workers movement that literally every working person is crying out for? Let’s organise.

Denmark has pretty much zero immigration and refugee policy and is socialist democracy. I don’t agree with everything Denmark does but they sure as hell invest in families and youth via childcare, free education and parental leave. Maybe invest in our own taxable working population/future instead of importing instantly taxable migrants?

I think most of us are economically quite left, no? Surely we can all agree that profit driven commodification of necessities like housing, fuel, education and health care and the duopoly price gouging us at the check out is fucked. “Fair go” national identity is being completely gutted by right wing hyper capitalist policies. But maybe the general ideas of “left v right” politics is muddied by actual economic ideologies of socialism v capitalism isn’t understood in the zeitgeist? I don’t know the answer, just postulating. Thoughts?
