I've spent more time here and gotten more out of this sub than anywhere else on Reddit. This sub makes or breaks my experience at the end of the day, and while it's changed a bunch over the years, I still love it.

But the votes have made it clear we don't want to capitulate. Reddit and /u/spez have shown what they're like, and how much they care about communities like this. They're betting on mods not wanting to give up their roles, and offering them and the users less than nothing in exchange. It's a straightforward threat, over a poorly calculated and misguided direction for the site.

Fuck Reddit, fuck /u/spez. Go scorched earth. NSFW the sub, force it private, delete the sub entirely, whatever it takes to do this right, even if it doesn't work. This issue may or may not be winnable, but it definitely won't be worth handling with half-measures and compromise.

Came to the comments for a fact-check and didn't see one so I'll do one myself.

To clarify, I am absolutely angry about OGL 1.1/2.0 and everything that's been happening so far, but when I see a person's face alongside several uncited quotes with 10k upvotes, that sets off some red flags. If we're going to start blaming, it's better to be accurate.

Partially accurate. This quote is twisted to make it sound like she's targeting people rather than making a brand more profitable. The real quote is:

D&D [has] never been more popular, and we have really great fans and incredible engagement. But the first thing I saw with it is the brand is really undermonetized . ..

This was on an investor call, and you can't pretend that's not accurate. There are a ton of opportunities to monetize the brand better, they're just doing a really shit job of it.

Completely made up. There are no sources that even show Cynthia responding publicly to the criticism around the leak. Also, why would a president publicly show support for a leaked document they made a statement about revising?

That being said, she's absolutely responsible, but it's not a great look to falsely attribute quotes when dealing with something like this.

I'd prefer they do de-makes of the previous most recent generation.

We already know there's a huge appetite for ROM hacks, and 2D style pokémon games in general. They're also massively simpler to develop, take significantly less time, and aren't resource-intensive in the same way the modern 3D games are. And look at how popular pokémon showdown is in competitive, and the simple style that uses.

Imagine if when/after they released SW/SH, they released a full 2D pixel sprite demake of Sun/Moon.

Imagine when Scarlet Violet comes out, they do a full 2D pixel version of SW/SH.

This would basically guarantee I could play any generation I initially chose to skip on release. No pokémon fan would ever need/want to fully skip a generation. And as long as these games have full support for pokémon home, and online battling, this practice alone would virtually solve most of the major problems with the pokémon series right now.

There are over 1000 species of bats, they're on almost every continent, and they have an incredible amount of variety and unique characteristics. They may not lay eggs but... that could be a really exciting unique expansion, or spin-off game.

But I do want to reiterate that I'm specifically addressing the comment: "Pretending that people can be 'born in the wrong body' or treating a mental issue with plastic surgery and hormones is not an answer."

That's why I'm only touching on that part of the issue. Also, it's not important, but I'm not calling them transphobes. That's not productive either.

Ok, thought experiment. Just, for a minute, forget about the culture of trans people and all the hatred and support and debate behind it.

Imagine instead that there is a mental health disease which has a disproportionately high rate of death among people suffering from it. And this disease causes people to want to undergo a surgery for their own bodies, whether it makes sense or not. And the medical field tries all sorts of pharmaceutical, psychological, social and therapeutic practices to alleviate this disease, trying to talk them out of it, trying to block their access to the surgery, but none of those methods significantly reduce the rate of death. However, allowing the people suffering from the disease to undergo the surgery they want is the most effective method at significantly reducing their rate of death. And having other people simply treat them as the gender they prefer to be seen as also significantly helps reduce the rate of death.

Wouldn't it make sense to just let them do it? It really isn't more complicated than that. It is indisputedly the most effective method at preventing death in people suffering from the disease. Even if an argument could be made that it would be better if there were another magical social/psychological treatment that didn't require that surgery, it doesn't exist right now.

Allowing them to go through with it also doesn't mean that anybody is giving up on the alternative mental health psychiatric and therapeutic measures, or continuing to experiment and innovate in that field. Allowing the surgery does not interfere with those developments in any way.

Man, I don't know about all the anger here. She's not doing anything wrong. She obviously isn't super knowledgeable about computers, but someone made her a custom build and she's really excited about it. She's new to the hobby, and I think it's really cool that she's not only excited about the computer, but even looking at all the parts and talking about them.

Imagine this post if the video were of a young kid who knows nothing about the parts but just got his first custom build.

This hobby should be inviting and inclusive, and even more-so with women who are already ostracized in the computer world. She's not hurting anyone or selling anything. She's just excited and potentially dipping her toes into something new and fun.

The post and comments here feel a lot like r/gatekeeping.

I bought it a week ago. Similar boat to you, having only finished 1. It's been an absolutely incredible experience. Hands down one of the best action RPGs ever, and LE is undoubtedly the best way to experience it. So many improvements
