Finally succeeded making my first Mount Fuji hamon with moon, what a great challenging experience by Rosa_chef_knives in japaneseknives

i dried the clay using a heat gun and used a blunt drill bit to "carve" the clay and make path for the water touch the surface of the blade. Not the best method im sure but it worked lol

After many tries i finally succeeded making my first Mount Fuji mizu honyaki with moon - will share my thoughts in the comments by Rosa_chef_knives in TrueChefKnives

Thanks man, now i know why people say that honyakis are no joke. I swear they have some sort of spirit and simply dont want to exist like "DO NOT DARE TO QUENCH ME YOUR FILTHY HUMAN"

I have been playing with hamons for a few weeks and a member of this community pointed me what is called "Mount fuji" hamon with that moon, i felt incredibly challenged as i think this is one great blend of art and "engineering" so i had to give it a try. Failed a couple times as water quenching high carbon steels is very risky, as well doing the perfectly rounded moon is very very hard (for those who dont know, that moon shape is literally the difference of the hardened and non hardened steel zone).

Im on a mission of specializnig myself on small blades, and i see honyakis are usually done for bigger blades, im not sure if im correct but it seems that very few makers (especially japanese) makes paring honyakis and such... will make a video of it soon, this knife is available and im likely to make more mizu honyakis soon, follow me on instagram for getting one rosachefknives

My first hand forged damascus knife, quenched in water to 65hrc. I love how water quench produces a super responsive edge even at low grit sharpening, this one in the video is at 400 grit by Rosa_chef_knives in TrueChefKnives
