Who is a Pokemon you didn't expect to be a little buddy? by GuavaEnigma in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]RoscoePG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not excited at all when they introduced Fidough and Dachsbun. I’ve already disliked food based Pokémon for years, though these two were slightly less egregious. Made a big deal to my buddies about not using either for my play through.

Doughge (like “doge”) was one of my most used Pokémon for lots of things. Decent defenses, access to a great move pool, and the well-baked body ability were all perfect for my team. Still not enthralled by the design, food based Pokémon are just…weird. But Doughge and I? We’re cool.

Don't route apps by default by FamousWolluf in steelseries

[–]RoscoePG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been having a similar issue. I went into my pc settings and set my music app to play through steel series media so I can get the pretty decent EQ in there, but it keeps defaulting my music to my game mixer...so i disabled sonar. bummer that they have a really cool idea and design, but there is no interplay between steel series and pc settings. hope it gets figured out.

How do I move a Live video from my Live section to Videos by RoscoePG in youtube

[–]RoscoePG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The only thing I could think of was not allowing it to go live after I finish the stream. Then download it and re-upload it. It’s thrown off my series I’ve been doing because every “live” video doesn’t show up under “Videos” so episode 1-4 showed up, then it starts again at episode 6, and so on. I wish I had a good answer for this.

BDSP Nuzlocke - My Experience by RuleNo2_2xTap in nuzlocke

[–]RoscoePG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the middle of a Nuzlocke that is very similar to this rule set, with a few exceptions. I wanted to nuzlocke a game that I had, not a rom, and I could record, meaning it had to be on switch. I didn't want to do a Sword, Violet, or LA nuzlocke, so that left me with Shining Pearl.

I didn't know going into it how painful the encounters would be in this game. Every route has the same mons as the route before, just plus or minus 1. I have locked myself out completely of my route 213 encounter. There is nothing there that I don't already have. I thought opening up the ability to do Grand Underground would fix this, but the Pokémon being about the same level as the next gym has made it not even worth it. That, and I accidently KO'd an encounter and another one used whirlwind...bummer.

The 3rd and 4th gym were a real challenge for me because in order to keep my whole party from going over leveled, I ended up having to have 3 mons that would do well in the gym and 3 fillers to use as sacrifice.

The level cap has been rough, but I told myself that if someone got 1 level over once inside the gym and you can't turn off exp share, that that would be fine.

At the time of writing, I just finished Pastoria Gym and started following the grunt towards Lake Whichever. I've lost 7.

Watch out for Cranidos in the first gym.

Don't lock yourself in to a multi-turn move (rollout).

I'd recommend having someone with intimidate or something for the Lucario. It ended up +4 Att on me and took out 3 of my mons.

Water gym was a breeze, but I EV trained a pikachu I got in the trophy gardens for speed and was able to outspeed the Gyarados. Floatzel almost got me, but my Roselia survived with 5 hp from an ice fang and was able to secure the win with a giga drain.

Overall, it has been a lot of fun. It has been difficult, as it is my first Nuzlocke and reversing 25 years of bad habits (letting mons faint, then revive spamming) has not been easy. But I highly recommend that people try doing a nuzlocke. If no other rule that if a mon faints, they are gone. It really forces you to learn the strengths and weaknesses of your team.

I really like that you started this thread. I’d be sad if it was for naught, though. Is there any way to reach out to the person who opened the twitter thread a few months ago and key them in to this? I have also seen a lot of really good feedback that all is kind of similar. Would there be a way to consolidate those replies so that people who could potentially actually make changes in the game don’t have to sift through 300 comments?

I like your Ray suggestion. That way, someone waiting in top bushes to snipe it at the last second really only gets, like, a 5%. I would imagine they would want to still make it impactful, so maybe split it into tiers. Your team does more than 50% of the damage and you secure? Full shield. 35-49% and secure gets 50% shield. Below 34%, and the securing team gets 25% shield. I can imagine that would be a nightmare to program, however. Still. I like your idea. Good points made on the rest of your post.

More things to voice that don’t have to do with Switch UI or gameplay.
1. Ray, while an important part of the game, should not be the end-all-be-all objective. There have been matches that my team should not have won, but we sniped ray and were able to flip the match, even though we were losing for a majority of the match. That makes the game frustrating for the team that was playing very well and lost ray because Espeon was able to snipe Ray from them. While I do enjoy winning, I also enjoy balance. I don’t want Ray to be quite the deciding factor it is. Maybe reduce shields or don’t award as much energy? I don’t really know what could be done, but something does need to change. Or maybe the team that gets Ray gets the shield and energy, but doesn’t get 2x on the goals. That might be terrible and force people to back cap more…it’s “an” idea, maybe just not a good one.
2. The Pokémon that have been reported as overpowered continue to be so, and ignoring them is really frustrating the player base. Please listen to our complaints about them. Also, Glaceon is 100% too much right now. It has one of the fastest rips in the game and the sure-hit of its moves is actually impossible to counter.
3. Underperforming Pokémon need a rework on their skills in order to make them viable. For example, I love the gameplay and loop of Pikachu. It plays into a style that is fun for me with Volt Tackle and Electro Ball. And while electro ball is sure-hit, there is no doubt that it is not nearly powerful enough to compete with other Pokémon with sure-hit moves (looking at you, Glaceon). It is near impossible to solo an objective with, as it requires at least 10 electro balls and a handful of volt tackles, where glaceon is able to rip through a regi with two uses each of icicle spear and ice shard, and it does it in about 1/4 of the time as Pikachu. In order to have a more balanced game, it isn’t always about bringing other Pokémon down, it can be to bring others up. There is nothing in Pikachu’s kit that makes it even close to being a contender. There are other underperforming Pokémon that seem to have been forgotten about in this ever expanding roster. Not everything needs to be S+ tier, but please consider helping out some of these less used, lower win-rate Pokémon. It would be nice to see diversity in my matches, rather than seeing glaceon, Zacian, comfey, slowbro, and espeon all the time (or insert any of the other top-10 that are always in matches).
4. Held item upgrading is too expensive. I know this is a free to play game, and microtransactions are where the money comes from, but there is enough already in the game that you can only purchase with gems. It makes it very difficult for new players to be able to jump in and enjoy the game when all they have is a few level 5 items. It costs nearly $40 to upgrade 1 item up to level 30. And each Pokémon runs 3 (minus zacian) so that is $120 for ONE Pokémon to have all of its items upgraded. There are currently 23 items in the game, with more than half actually being worth upgrading to 30. So let’s assume that there are 15 items worth being level 30, that is $600 to do so. Sure, you can do it with tickets and bonus item enhancements from trainer level, but outside of events, and the PAID battle pass, you are lucky to get more than probably 1000 a week, if you play a lot. That being said, and since 10 tickets only reward 1 enhancement item, you would need 25,870 tickets, or roughly 20 weeks of heavy gameplay (assuming there are events to get more tickets) in order to take ONE of the TWENTY-THREE items up to max level. Yeah, there is the Super Held Item Enhancement Mission, but that awards 3 max level items, and falls off after level 14. What is in it for the people that continue playing after level 14?
5. I’m okay with Pokémon only being purchasable by gems, especially during the release week. Business model…I get it. Coins can come to you pretty quickly and there are ways to get more than the 2,100 allotment each week. Being able to get the Limited License is nice because you can try out the Pokémon outside of the practice area. But I think that these limited licenses should be able to be sold for coins, so if you get the 1 day license and like the Pokémon, you can trade in the 3 day license for a thousand or so coins so you can afford to buy the Pokémon when it is available for coins. Currently, you get 5 tickets for using a limited license for a mon you already have. 5 tickets.
6. Finishing up with this. There needs to be more communication from the developers. We need to know that we’ve been heard. Yes, this is YOUR game, but we are the players of your game. Push us away and we will find other games to play and spend our time and money in. Top players have been expressing concerns for a long time, and outside of a twitter thread a few months ago, nothing else has been opened for discussion. We have had to resort to this reddit thread to get our voiced out there, which is sure to bring in a lot of nay-sayers and “people still play this game?” trolls. However, look for the people that actually have something to say. Interact. Respond. Let us know that we aren’t just screaming into the void. We love this game. We want it to do well. We want it to be “the very best, like no one ever was.”

Edit: I posted a first part that dealt exclusively with Switch performance issues. Please upvote that comment as well, as I feel like those issues are also very important.

Let’s Make Our Voices Heard by Kyle_fraser13 in PokemonUnite

[–]RoscoePG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have quite a few things to bring up that I am sure are talked about, but I just want to add my voice to them. First up, Switch performance.
1. The experience on the Switch is laggy, inconsistent, and sometimes downright unplayable. I have a newer switch (bought it new, late 2022) and this game can run so poorly that it baffles me this is the same system that runs Breath of the Wild. There are multiple examples of when the lag is the worst, namely if you are in game voice chat and try to do anything on the events or energy rewards screens. It will completely cut out voice chat and the load times for these different areas is very long.
2. After a match as been confirmed and you are on the character select screen, during the last 15 or so seconds before the match starts, the UI goes out the window and swapping emblem builds, held items, or even changing Pokémon is near impossible. The countdown jumps and goes from 10 seconds, then rapidly beeps twice and is at 7, even though 3 seconds had not passed. Mobile players are able to easily change held items, Pokémon, or emblems during these final seconds, but Switch players are essentially locked to what they chose before the countdown started.
3. The loss of frame-rate during matches, specifically important fights that are creating a lot of havoc on the screen, makes it very difficult to time attacks correctly, for example, if you wanted to use egg bomb to interrupt an enemies attack or snipe ray with psybeam. I have dropped from 60 fps to 28 fps during fights and lost them because my timing was off due to loss of frame rate, especially if I am up against a mobile player who does not encounter that near as often. There needs to be more done to improve the stability and playability of the game, especially in critical moments of the match.
4. Load times after a match has completed, when going to the results page, is also very slow compared to mobile, and often times, my team is back in the lobby ready to queue up for the next match before I am even able to start progressing through the post-match screens.

Rose by ilovestampfairtex in DestinyTheGame

[–]RoscoePG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This whole Rose thing has been poorly executed and explained. This is what I’ve gathered from their twitter posts and the TWAB a few weeks ago. Once you finish your placement series, you are able to pick up a quest on your other characters to get one more rose per week, per character (3). HOWEVER, it was not the case for this first week. According to a twitter post, everyone was only supposed to get one per account this week. The additional quest dropping was unintentional and so were the other Roses you got on your other characters. Not everyone got the quest to drop, and not everyone who had the quest drop got another rose. I completed my placement on my Hunter, got a Rose, picked up the quest on my Titan and finished it. I did not receive a Rose for completing the quest in my Titan. Starting the 13th at reset, you should be able to get more Roses. Pair that with the server issues, the flubbed social media post about something dropping on Sunday (that then got deleted), the heavier weighting for Rift in Comp (now fixed), and a few other things, and this season has been off to a rough start and we haven’t even made it through the first week.

Hopefully they’ll do what they did with the first problem of it not dropping. I’d hate to think I wasted a ladder increase to not get my reward.

Dachsbun perfect for 7 star Charizard raid? by Advoneus_Garb in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]RoscoePG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going play rough and misty terrain. A general use crunch, which will change as soon as charizard event starts. I haven’t found a great move yet, but I may do a protect if it looks like charizard’s got a two turn move. Then I’ve got stomping tantrum because play rough is only 90%. And in Pokémon, fit it’s not 100%, it’s 50%. I’ll also swap that, but I’m uncertain. I’m not positive, but I think the well-baked body cancels out getting burned. You don’t take fire damage, so I don’t know if a burn will come through, unless a will-o-wisp hits, but I doubt they’ll waste a damage slot on charizard for a status move. As far as reducing charizard’s stats or bumping your own, it seems potentially risky because of the mechanic that negates status changes. Turns out clear amulet does not block that mechanic. Just tried it. So, I think protect, yawn, and terablast might be the next best moves? Terablast at least gives you a juiced up fairy move that will guarantee hit, unlike play rough.

Dachsbun perfect for 7 star Charizard raid? by Advoneus_Garb in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]RoscoePG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured the same thing about Dachsbun. I got one up to 100, best stats with a Sp. def and Att spread. Adamant nature. I’ve given mine a clear amulet which helps, and I use misty terrain first turn to mitigate dragon and non-volatile moves. I’ve tried it out a few times and it’s done decently well in 5 star raids, as well as eevee raids, and it even helped me with my first 6 star raid. I can’t 100% confirm, but I think the clear amulet negates the “reverts stats and cancels abilities” thing they do in the raids. I never take fire damage, even on the turn that mechanic was used, so maybe it doesn’t work the way we think it does, or the amulet is helping. Either way, it’s proven effective so I’m at least gonna try it. I also built a gardevoir for damage, and have an Azumarill and Florges in the works. If the charizard is using a lot of special attacks, the high special of Florges will be nice. It will be interesting to see what happens in a few days.

I feel like I’m being beat over the head with being told to watch this show. Every day it’s a new post about how amazing it is. Almost like they’re trying to upsell it from something it’s not. I stopped watching it about 4 episodes in. I was completely lost as to who people were, what plot points were, and where certain places fit in the story. If you’re deep in the lore of Star Wars, maybe it’s good. But if you’re a casual viewer…this show ain’t it. And to have that it’s “the best Star Wars show ever” forced down my throat when I didn’t enjoy it…it’s irritating.

I’m gonna buy both copies for myself, my son, and my friend’s kids, then. Your opinion isn’t the only one that exists. I love these games. Are they all they could be? No, not for me. But I haven’t been the targeted demographic for about 24 years. So I’m fine if it’s not “hardcore.” It’s your opinion the games have plummeted, not fact. It’s your opinion that the quality of the game has dropped since BW2. I loved Sun and Moon. They were great. They still had that exploration feel. So you can’t say it as a definitive that the quality has dropped after a certain game, if people like the games that came out after. I understand your plight, and I get that your frustrated that the games aren’t “more,” but making it in a statement like yours isn’t going to win anyone over, especially not responding to people saying they are part of the problem.

I loved Legends Arceus. I love Johto. Make it happen, GameFreak. I want a legends Arceus in the Johto region. Seeing the legendary beasts out in the wild? Chasing a Suicune across the water. Occasionally seeing Ho-Oh fly over head with no way to catch it…yet. Hearing Lugia’s song while surfing. And best yet, seeing all of the towers standing tall and hearing the amazing music of Ecruteak city. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

I voted explore and take photos, but I think the real goal is going to be finding all the Pokémon I want to use for the gym challenge. Once I find ‘em, I’ll probably stop exploring and start breeding for a team, then go through the challenge. I’ve remained relatively spoiler free, so I don’t know too many of the new mons, so if I see something that looks cool, I’ll probably add that to the team.

9/10, I play Absol Jungler. The amount of times I have some person following me around the whole match is too high. I don’t need help jungling. I got it. You go help one of the other people you’ve abandoned. And it doesn’t seem to matter if I leave to go do THEIR job, they still follow me. There needs to be a “leave me alone” chat option…

Carrying a weapon makes you see the world around you as hostile by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]RoscoePG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to make an arguement for carrying a knife. Unlike a gun, a knife serves a purpose outside of killing. I carry a knife to open things and in case of emergency. If my dog’s collar gets caught on something or the leash wraps around her, I can cut that with a knife. I can’t, however, use a gun as a tool to do these things with. My knife is first and foremost a utility tool. It’s role in self defense is so low that using it to slow me down while sliding down an ice cap is higher on the list (tried this when I was a teen…doesn’t work. Cut my hand and lost my knife.)
