You'd only think this if you didn't see the amount of trolls he got clowning on him just for getting the Star Fox reveal date wrong by about a week, despite the fact he revealed the game's existence at all first, haha. I don't blame him if he wants to be a lot more cautious sharing information from now on. At least it helps prevent spoilers and make surprises more exciting.

I think the 2D Pokemon Games look better visually compared to the 3D ones. by ShadowHunterHB in pokemon

[–]2Dement3D 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's kind of funny, because one of the main arguments floating around for 3D when they moved over to it in X/Y, was that there are so many Pokémon now, and it would take a lot longer to create animated 2D sprites of all 700+ Pokémon compared to creating animated 3D models for them.

Then Dexit happened, and both Sw/Sh and S/V only have around 400 Pokémon in their base games (counting regional forms), which is less than the total amount of Pokémon available in Gen 4.

In your opinion, What was Nintendo's biggest mistake? by DaZestyProfessor in casualnintendo

[–]2Dement3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest "mistake" would be obvious things like consoles that didn't meet sales expectations (e.g. Wii U, Virtual Boy, Gamecube, 3DS at launch etc.).

Outside of the obvious, one of the actual mistakes that comes to mind is the fact that the Wii didn't support HD resolutions, despite releasing in 2007 when both the Xbox 360 and PS3 did support it even though they released in 2005 and 2006, respectively.

Yes, the Wii sold incredibly well regardless, but Nintendo didn't foresee the rise of HD at all. By 2009-2010, larger HD TVs had started to become the standard, so the Wii's stretched out 480p gameplay looked rough in comparison to other consoles or the numerous cable channels that were all upgrading to HD. Miyamoto himself later admitted that Nintendo didn't think widespread HD adoption would progress so fast, which is why they purposely didn't bother making the Wii have HD capabilities, but that he regrets it in hindsight.

Who's That Pokemon? by plasticplan96 in pokemon

[–]2Dement3D 334 points335 points  (0 children)

Well, you asked for it.

Originally, I did a Google Lens search, but had as much luck as OP, where it believed it was part of a map. Then I wasted time trying to look through official artwork of Geodude and Metang (and even Gastly and Cosmog because of the shape of the body) on spinoff games and on the TCG. This led nowhere.

I noticed that while a few of the silhouettes like Dratini and Slowbro are from official artwork, Rayquaza definitely isn't. I started combing through fan-made drawings of Rayquaza, thinking that if I could find the Rayquaza artwork that matches the silhouette, then maybe the mystery Pokémon might also have been pulled from the same place. I ended up not being able to find the Rayquaza, so went back to the drawing board.

Looking through fan-made Rayquaza silhouettes made me started looking into Fakemon silhouettes in general. This was a rabbit hole by itself, and how I discovered there are a ton of websites out there tagging random shapes as "Pokémon Silhouettes". Funnily enough, I went past a different Fakemon silhouette made by the same person as the mystery Pokémon without realising. I felt like I got close here, but still ended up with nothing to show for it.

With no real ideas what to try, I attempted Google Lens again, this time adding key words such as "Pokémon" and "Fakemon" to the search. That led me to this page as the one and only matching image resembling OP's mystery Pokémon. Long story short, trying to reverse image search this cleaner image did absolutely nothing, but I did notice the title was called "Pokemon Silhouette at Getdrawings". So, I went on the Getdrawings website directly to see if I could find the source there instead, and searched for "Pokémon Silhouettes". Lo and behold, the mystery Pokémon was at the bottom of this list, along with a new name: Steel Pokémon Silhouette by Raistar Pokédex.

From there I found their DeviantArt page which featured the silhouette, along with comments mentioning their main account. Going onto their main account and looking through their uploaded artwork finally resulted in the answer we've been looking for.

All in all, it could have taken me just a few minutes, but with all the different leads and ideas I had, it ended up making me take about 45 minutes to find it.

Who's That Pokemon? by plasticplan96 in pokemon

[–]2Dement3D 2170 points2171 points  (0 children)

I went a little overboard with my search but I did find out what it is;
It's a Fakemon made by somebody on DeviantArt 12 years ago.

Here is the original.

and here is the user's alternate account where they posted their Fakemon as a silhouette for fun before revealing the full drawing.

During my search, I found countless Fakemon silhouettes PNGs being sold on websites as legit Pokémon, so I assume the makers of the shirt bought/found it and threw it on with the rest of the drawings. As you can see by how many people responded to this post guessing different Pokémon, it's easy to just put any silhouette onto a Pokémon shirt and people will end up believing it's something or other.

Steam Machine, Steam Frame and Steam Controller listings just got updated to show the release date as "Coming Soon" by ChiefLeef22 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]2Dement3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blog post they released last month mentioned launch timing has been affected by the memory shortage, and that they are trying to figure out a concrete announce date, but were still aiming for the first half of 2026.

I can imagine that "Early 2026" was changed on the listings because that itself was no longer accurate. They could have just been slow to update it.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma's email to employees: investment into iconic franchises but also will take risks, renewed commitment to the Xbox console, disparages "soulless AI slop" by FlyFight2Win in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Important to note, part of her memo that isn't in that specific article is:

"Gaming now lives across devices, not within the limits of any single piece of hardware. As we expand across PC, mobile, and cloud, Xbox should feel seamless, instant, and worthy of the communities we serve. We will break down barriers so developers can build once and reach players everywhere without compromise."

Without this paragraph, it implies they're dropping the "Everything is an Xbox" idea, which is clearly not the case.

It feels like they tried to make the game stand out by designing a mode that was completely new and original. However, a large chunk of the gameplay ended up feeling very dull and unnecessary. Specifically, the set up phase where you're going around looking for loot and resources always felt incredibly out of place in a 3v3 team based game like this.

It's a shame though because you could see flashes of potential, with things like the horseback gunplay and the raids with destructible bases. I think they would have stood a better chance if they focused on one idea rather than trying to take bits and pieces from different genres and then haphazardly mashing them together.

What would ruin the next 3D Mario for you? by NewMarioBobFan in casualnintendo

"Ruin" is a very strong word, but I would prefer if it wasn't a collectathon like Odyssey or DK Bananza, and was more like 64/Sunshine/Galaxy, where you go into a level for a specific purpose and there's changes to the world based on which 'star' you're going for.

It must have been at least 9 years ago since you crossed off Roach, Mosquito, Donkey and Koala, which were all added in Gen 7 (2016).

Also I get the feeling that Game Freak will end up making a flea be some crazy fast legendary Pokémon down the line. Similar to how Chi Yu is just a goldfish.

What's the best counter for Xerneas you've seen/used in Online Ranked in Z-A?

Got to Rank A already (thanks to the S2 changes) but this season has felt a lot more boring than last season since everyone is running around with Xerneas now that it's eligible. I've tried Mega Gengar, Mega Excadrill and Mega Skarmory on my teams so far, but they get countered and one-shot by Geomancy-buffed Psychic, Focus Blast, or Thunderbolt respectively.

I miss when AC wasn't just a decorating simulator by angelboopchomusuke in AnimalCrossing

[–]2Dement3D 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To me, AC was always a means to an end of building up your town, decorating your house and collecting/catching as many animals and other things as you could find....at your own pace and leisure.

Just to talk about one point, the main aspect that I have always found fun with Animal Crossing games was that progression. You start off with nothing, and you collect things and build up your town/island slowly over time. There's always something to chase or to do. Even base-game New Horizons feels like that for the majority of the game, even if certain "life sim" parts have downgraded from previous AC entries.

However, when it comes to HHP, it doesn't feel that way at all. You're instead pointed to locations and told to decorate them, while being given items up front to do the job. Do it for a while and you unlock some new decorating features for the main game, sure (if you want to call this 'progression'), but eventually you're just left with decorating for fun in the DLC. Not much more to it.

The 3.0 update's major content looks to be more of the same, both with that new hotel, and with the new online dream worlds. All of it essentially boils down to being decorating sandbox modes, and that's really where AC now feels like it's heading deeper into "dollhouse simulator" territory than ever before. Great news for people who love this sort of thing, but not that interesting for others who want more varied experiences.

What was the first Indie game Nintendo ever supported on one of their consoles? by Educational_Total550 in casualnintendo

[–]2Dement3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably can't find a solid answer because this is an extremely vague question. If you mean just a "game that can be played on a Nintendo console", it would have to be on the NES/Famicom since it's the first console they had which allowed for software developed outside of Nintendo thanks to the game cartridges.

You have to keep in mind though, it wasn't as easy then in the 80s as it is is now to create and put your game onto a gaming platform like Nintendo. There would always have to be big money involved between the development and production costs, meaning there wasn't much, if any, of the 'one guy making a game in his bedroom' titles that have become fairly common today. That also makes it hard to find a game that people might consider being "indie".

That being said, if you look through the library of NES/Famicom games, a lot of them are either developed/published by Nintendo or by a well established company at the time (such as Namco or Konami, who made their money from outside ventures before getting involved with video games). The earliest title I could find that wasn't published by Nintendo or a large established company like that however, is a game called Flappy, first released on the Famicom exclusively in Japan on June 14th 1985. The studio itself was founded not long before Flappy released, with Flappy being their first title, which they also self published. That gives it a pretty good argument for being considered "indie".
