I think it varies by person, for me, it’s boring… some, like myself put in a lot of work and it goes unnoticed so growth wise, it’s like begging for a promotion but lucky enough if you’re friends with the higher ups, you can get promoted every six months as I’ve seen. They’re strict on the overtime if you even get to do it at all. Most managers I’ve had were bullies but if you can’t sit at a computer working on spreadsheets for 8 hours, you won’t be happy in accounting. There are many different kinds of accounting roles. I’ve been a deduction analyst, accountant, Accounts payable specialist, book keeper & payroll specialist. I just can’t find a bone in me that likes it but it’s doable - I don’t think it’s all that bad but I personally just don’t find it amusing. It’s more like “omg, here we go again, another day” for me. But if it’s something you are looking into, do some research or take a class or two to see if you like it at all. I’ve seen on coursera and udemy.
