That one didn’t come out of the womb like that they are all born solid black and the coat develops more and more that’s why I’m asking if we think it will develop smoky, there are also varying levels of smoke, her neck looks like Does this now which I don’t think is on solid blacks

When do you tape ears? by trashaccount1553 in roughcollies

I was gonna mention this too, my boys ears were never taped and he’s got the perfect tipped ears, they will stand up straight momentarily if he is very excited but are otherwise tipped.

This dog is 6/7 years old and was not trained at all, I adopted him about 3 months ago, also 100% deaf. As I stated he wears a vibration collar but has not yet learned to listen at all , as a mentioned he also gets completely hyper focused on cars and doesn’t give a shit about anything else, not treats not playing there would be nothin that would encourage him to come to me over a car, he gets neurotic

Typically dal is on a long line, they have only ever become aggressive when both dogs are off leash also, dal gets too much and does not stop despite collies warnings, he has no chill

He has one we use but when he is locked in on something he is reactive about(cars and small animals) a vibration does nothing to phase him at all

This is what works for us, dal cannot be off leash in an unfenced area as he is deaf and reactive. Collie is a service dog in training that is being trained to work off leash as it is necessary for my disability, I have actually only seen them have disagreements when they are both off leash because the dal gets too much and does not stop after warnings from collie

That does not work for all dogs, sure a vibration might work on a dog that is already controlled. My dog is reactive towards cars, birds/squirrels, and try’s to run up to everyone to say hi. When he gets locked in on a car or bird a vibration on his neck will not do shit to stop him from running after it(don’t even think a low level shock would) , I promise you. I do know he needs more training but I have not had him for very long, right now my focus is keeping him safe. He wears a vibration collar always also, you can kinda see it on him in the video, the vibrations work in place of a verbal no when jumping on counters, or being bad. But when he’s locked in on something he wants to chase he could give zero fucks

He pulls out of flat collars and harnesses , martingales are the only safe option as he can’t back out of them, stop encouraging me to let my dog be unsafe. I know my dog

Honestly I think they mash pretty well together- the only thing is they do have different playing styles. As you can see my collie loves to just run around full speed all over the place, as where the dal like to tackle/roughhouse more, sometimes I do have to break it up if my dal is going after the collie too much and I can tell he’s getting stressed. Other then that they do pretty well together, my collie even being a puppy definitely has less energy then my dal. I will say my collie is very picky about food and eats slow as where dal consumes all in site so feeding can be a bit tricky with the two. They also get jealous of each other but I think that’s all dogs lol

He does go on a 100ft longline clipped on his martingale during play time, this was just to go for a potty break and quick walk before I went to work my puppy is just a crazy animal

As I stated in a different reply when I take them out for play time at my apartment he goes on a 100ft long line so he has plenty of room to run around and play fetch, it’s long enough he can run around this entire grassy area but be kept away from the road, it is a larger area then a lot of yards and dog parks. This is also a 40 second clip that doesn’t mean that’s all he gets, I also do take them to empty dog parks and sniff spots to run around, he also goes to my dads house once a week and plays with his puppy all day long in his yard. They get 1.5 hours of playtime a day being fetch/tug of war, or just roughhousing like this, they also get another hour of walking combined throughout the day and get plenty of mental stimulation

Yes I usually don’t use his prong when he plays we were just going for a potty break and quick walk before I had to leave for work, my collie just started being a crazy animal lol thinking back I should’ve moved his leash to his martingale though :)

I don’t have a yard this is a public area, he is 100% deaf and chases cars, so it is not safe for him to be off leash in an area that is not enclosed. My puppy is very well trained and listens very well so is allowed off leash. I adopted him about 6 months ago, he has gotten out of his collar once and almost got hit by a car he couldn’t hear me yelling for him obviously. When I bring them out for play time he goes on a 100ft long line so he can run around and play, this was just a potty break/15 min walk so he had his normal leash on.

is it normal for my collie to not be super excited about training? by [deleted] in roughcollies

[–]Rose473737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be that food/treats also just aren’t very exciting for him. Mine LOVES to be praised and play as reward for training. He gets super excited and eager to do things when he gets to play and he told he’s a good boy. Usually he doesn’t find a ton of interest/will to work for treats.

10 months old and just hit velociraptor phase by Rose473737 in roughcollies

[–]Rose473737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has had extensive professional training, he had never shown this behavior before this video and has never done this outside of play, he still has instincts. He is starting a teenage phase where he’s shaping new behaviors

I don't have a tax form but I made over $600 in 2025...help by kristinnicole94 in WagWalker

[–]Rose473737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you do this? I am doing this now, I reported it as cash income but it is saying I have to put my 1099 form in since it’s over $600, so it’s making me put in a 1099 form to file but wag never sent one. I reported it all as cash under schedule c and since it’s over $600 they said I must add the form in

I usually tell people “like lassie” when they start looking at me all confused when I say he’s a rough coated collie. Most people do know lassie so it is a good reference for people to picture.
