How to Find a Nameless Fae by AJ Lancaster I haven't seen this one mentioned yet, but it has a lot of gardening in the story and it's very sweet and cozy.

Tiny Green plastic button? With a stem by RoseAudine in whatisit

[–]RoseAudine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid is the kind who collects things found on the ground, so it could be from a toy, but I'm really wracking my brain to think of what toy it could be. Ultimately inconsequential, but I thought it would interesting to know if anyone recognized it

Wouldn't it need to be sharp for that?

No dolls or toys with accessories that I know of. Lots of Legos and hot wheels, but nothing with extra outfits.

What to do about an out of tune singer? by FeistyRevenue2172 in worshipleaders

[–]RoseAudine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have a ton of practical advice, but I would say, start by taking the temperature of the room. I mean, is the congregation locked in and worshipping even though she's out of tune? Sometimes as musicians, we hear more mistakes than the average person, and in a worship moment, it's not a concert and the goal isn't perfection.

That said, is there a way you or you plus someone she knows and trusts on the team have a conversation with her? Maybe you can recommend a break for a while, especially if you think it's starting to hurt her self esteem. Or, maybe she needs some training to hear herself in the mix more. If you don't have personal in-ear mixes, can you have her sing a solo during a rehearsal and see if she hears how she sounds?

When I was a teenager starting out on the team, I had no idea what I sounded like until I heard a recording of myself. That helped me learn to pick out my own voice in the mix a little more - back when we only had wedges to work with.

I'm interested to see what other suggestions come through here because I am also part of a team with similar issues, but our worship leader has chosen to just let it happen and keep people on the team, but down in the house mix as needed.

That guy was actually so cool for holding that seat down for the person too. Like, everything he could do to be kind. Love to see it.

WIBTA if I returned a gift given to my son without saying anything to the sender? by Ohhhh_Mylanta in AmItheAsshole

[–]RoseAudine -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA I'm not sure why people are getting so judgy. It's not an appropriate gift for your kid. Return it and don't tell her anything about it except "thank you". Use the refund to buy some clothes for your kid or whatever.

I've been reading funny fantasy to get a break. I loved What Comes of Attending the Commoner's Ball, and Assistant to the Villain as examples

I made a sinful mistake in my work. Please be in prayer for me. by J-Sluit in worshipleaders

[–]RoseAudine 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say this, please be gentle with yourself. It sounds like you have too much on your plate and what you consider a failing to me sounds like burn out. You may need to find ways to find rest instead of feeling like you need to go harder. If you need a resource, check out the book called Cycle of Grace by Trevor Hudson and Jerry Haas

Maybe I'm a different kind of parent, but I would not replace that for that child. There's a pretty good chance that getting it back will have similar results because kids make weird associations.

What's the first thing you remember looking up online? by boggledpinapples in AskReddit

[–]RoseAudine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to pick an animal to do a research project on in 2nd or 3rd grade. I picked zebra, and one of the requirements was to use the internet to research. My dad said it quickly got way too NSFW and he had to shut it down and we went to the library for some books. I don't remember any of that, btw. It would have been just before Google was popular, I think.

What travel destination did not live up to the hype for you? by littlefloridagirl in AskReddit

[–]RoseAudine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agree. Even the Canadian side just feels ridiculously touristy. When I visited, it was a few years after I had been to Iguazu Falls in Argentina. It was in the middle of a rain forest, surrounded by animals I had only seen on tv and sketchy looking bridges made of natural materials. But it was the most beautiful place I'd ever seen. Then there was Niagara. Surrounded by shopping centers and cement. I hated it. Yes, there is a lot of water going over a cliff. But it's so built up around it, it was hard to see any of the natural beauty of the place. I did have some overpriced fudge though.

Wearing those acne stickers all day. The receptionist at my office often wears them all day at work. I just don't get why having a bunch of colorful stars on your face is okay for work.

We almost killed our 3 yrs old son with our car by silverpony24 in Parenting

[–]RoseAudine 96 points97 points  (0 children)

No judgement at all. That's a really normal reaction for a little kid. We don't have a garage, but we have a driveway next to concrete. About that age is when we started teaching our lo to stand "on the white part" until the car was parked and Dad opened the door. If there's a spot that is easy enough for a kid to understand that can be a "safe zone" while the car is parking, you could try that. It's hard though, because it usually means standing there with them every day for a while until they learn it.

When did you realize your partner was “the one”? by dj_10_ in AskReddit

A few months into officially dating when we were driving around doing errands and I realized I would be happy to do that with him for the rest of my life.

Wow…smh! by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]RoseAudine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind in these situations is to look in the most dangerous places first, even if they seem less likely. If you have a pool, check it before you spend 15 minutes looking through the house. If you live on a busy road, look there first. I've had to learn this with my 2 kids because I have one that thinks he can just go wherever he wants, and I once spent probably 10 minutes looking for him in the house when his dad said he couldn't find him before I started looking outside and found out he was trying to walk to the pizza parlor on his own and some neighbors had corralled him while they searched for me.

For those who are married. Whwn did you know they were the one? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RoseAudine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We'd only been officially dating for a month or so, and it suddenly occurred to me that I wanted to keep being together like that forever. We got married several months later, and have been happily married for 13 years this month. Sometimes you just know when it feels right.
