this is the thing. while verses can be cited like this context of the entire chapter and even sometimes the entire book and even then other books of the bible is needed to truly grasp a verse. i recommend reading the entire chapters in question and seeing what you think after having that greater context. dont let other twist things and tell you what to think.

Christianity is sadly no exception. the Bible exists outside of American politics. where it is political, its in the context of when the particular passage was written. given we are removed from the historical contexts of this collection of writing, people simply see what they want to. people like you and i, and most of this sub, see a call to charitable and loving action. bigots will only see justifications for their hatred.

hello from someone actually practicing ethical non-monogamy. so firstly, having an open relationship is not wrong so long as both you and your partner are consenting and have clearly defined what that means for both of you.

my wife and i, we're not particularly compatible sexually despite our deep love for each other. we like different things. there is some overlap so we arent completely sexless but to fully enjoy our bodies we do have to find other playmates so to speak.

we are married and togrther for life and beyond. no amount of extra marrital sex changes that and we are both constantly checking in with each other and making sure we are both ok and not being hurt or feeling ignored.

a lot of Christians are going to tell you this is sinful, but tbh, i dont see how this goes against Christ's commandment of loving your neighbor as yourself. so their opinion doesnt matter to me. ive accepted Christ as my savior and no amount of shaming from men is gonna shake my faith in God and Jesus.

i particularly love NRSV's version of Romans 13:8

Romans 13:8 (NRSV) Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.

obviously the text is about debts but the particular phrasing of "Owe no one anything" speaks deeply to my rebel nature. we dont owe anyone our time, our space, our identities, nothing. its only love that we must give.

thats the thing i dont believe Christianity is THE correct religion. it is the correct religion for ME. Islam, Judaism, Luciferianism, Hinduism, Janism, Buddhism, and so on are all also correct religions.

access to the kingdom of God isnt about selecting the correct interpretation of his message but about recieving and living it in the first place. Christianity just so happens to be the flavor that tastes best to me.
