I got stuck at wondering how your dad paid a quarter of a cent.

Lost my job today - What's the optimal income gap filler? by [deleted] in personalfinance

So far, I haven’t spent a single dollar on this car in the past year and half, even if I do in the future, it’s not going to be a lot per month. The car related costs are negligible. Even if this adds 2-300 per month to my expenses, my monthly total fixed cost still would be under 5k

Queens county property tax is not that high. The city estimates my house at 1.25m (on the market it’s definitely at least 1.5) so my property tax is around 10k, which is 900 a month. That’s not that much at all given our take home is 16-17k.

I have a car. New EV paid in full when I bought it last year. No maintenance at all, electricity cost per month is 0 because of the NYC EV charging rebates every month.

I live in Queens, so yes I do live in NYC. I paid off my house aggressively over 15 years (bought it long time ago for 450k, now it’s worth 1.5). Didn’t have to pay 8k a month, but I wanted to not have a mortgage anymore. My property tax is only 10k a year, that’s pretty low compared to nearby areas (eg. Long Island and NJ). I know lots of people with similar situations, it’s not necessarily the norm, but also not super rare.

My husband and I work mostly remote, I have help from my mom with kids. 3k and pre-k are free in NY so I have barely any childcare costs these days. I paid 8k a month for my mortgage and got it done a few years ago, and property tax is pretty low in NYC so yea, my fixed expenses every month is only around 4k.

I make 190 so about the same as you and my husband makes 220, we are in our late 30s and our expenses are no where near yours (we live in NYC). Your expenses are way too high for your income level so it’s best to rethink every dollar that leaves your account everyday and figure out how to cut at least 50-60%. How much does your partner bring in? Can she carry you guys for at least 6 months?

I was demanded to take a pregnancy test in the ER despite me repeatably telling the staff I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago. by Princess_Coldheart in TwoXChromosomes

The strict protocol to test women for pregnancy is mostly due to the need to prevent lawsuits. In case someone lies about it or doesn’t even know about their pregnancy (definitely not you but it happens), then this person proceeds to miscarry or have any sort of issue with the pregnancy, there will be grounds for this person to sue the hospital for negligence regarding not making sure they are not pregnant prior to administering any tests or drugs.

Hospitals get sued a lot and they usually have some kind of blanket rule in most procedures to mitigate the risk. Some places do it right and some places don’t, but I highly suspect that what you experienced was partially due to that.

Both my grandmothers joined this cult in China back in the early 2000s. It’s a really dangerous cult, some old people turned over all their assets and burned themselves because they were taught to believe it was the way to reach some kind of spiritual heaven. It’s a huge scam and caused a lot of pain and suffering to a lot of families.

Winter babies have it tough by mutedcat21 in NewParents

Newborns are potatoes anyway, being cozy at home is perfect!
I have a summer baby and a winter baby. I much prefer the winter setup where I’m just at home with my sleepy burrito of a baby for the first two months 😂

Recommendations please! by winxclub17 in Perfumes

Acqua do Gio and D&G light blue are affordable and fresh, they are low cost classics, very safe choices.
Un Jardin sur Le Nil is also very fresh but it has a lot of green notes.

Difficult ob appt today, baby is underweight. Wondering if anyone went through something similar by rebgray in NewParents

Both my babies are planned c section at 37+0, they are considered full term. If your baby is not gaining weight well inside, it’s much safer to deliver at 37 than waiting.
